Here is a photo of one of the Riviera's craps tables, which is being sold as part of the hotel's liquidation. If I understand correctly, it is not an auction, but a straightforward sale that starts May 14 at 9 AM.

Is it "craps table" or "crap table"? For some reason, I thought it was the latter.

Here is an overview of the process. $10 to get in and fight others for who got to an item first. The restaurant equipment is always a draw for dealers. Not sure how much the room funishings are worth. They could be there a while unless you get someone who owns an even worse hotel and needs new bedding.

Those things are huge, not going to fit in my living room!

I always say "craps table" but have heard both used. IMHO it would be "craps table" if discussing a place but singular as a thing.

"I'm going to the craps table."
"I bought a crap table."

My take anyways.

I think its always written as a "craps" table just that the pronunciation is different. Some people may say "craps" for "craps" and some people may say "crap" for "craps".

What's it called when you roll a 2, 3 or 12? That should answer your question.

Maybe I was just confusing "crap table" with "crap game." (And it is "crap game" - just ask Nathan Detroit.)

This got me slightly curious, so I invested several minutes, or maybe at least two, on the name of the game. And I still don't know, but it was worth squandering some spare electrons.

Wikipedia's version sounds likely:
Quote:

The game, first known as crapaud (a French word meaning "toad" in reference to the original style of play by people crouched over a floor or sidewalk), reportedly owes its modern popularity to street craps.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craps

But it seems there are other explanations around:
Quote:

It seems come down to the French borrowing the game and developing it into a form similar to the one we know today. French slang for a pair of 1s was "krabs."

http://grochowski.casinocitytimes.com/article/how-the-casino-game-got-its-name-58094

And some mixtures of variations of similar alternatives:
Quote:

The origin of the name craps is shrouded in doubt, but it may have come from the English crabs, or from the French Crapeaud (for toad).

http://www.funtrivia.com/askft/Question17944.html

I think ending up with English crabs sounds like they'd involve a more entertaining adventure than French toads, but take your pick.

Sale is May 14. Golden Gate/The D bought all the slots and VP machines but I don't think they bought any tables so presumably those will go for sale then. The liquidator websites shows table games among the items.

I guess I am inconsistent. I refer to playing either craps or a crap game. I know that I read somewhere and repeated here long ago that "crap" is the adjective form, which would make "crap game" or "crap table" appropriate.

However, I seem to type or say "craps table" every time I have occasion to use such an expression.

Was it the Riviera that had the "Crazy Girls" chorus line bronzes on the Strip? I wonder what became of them?

IIRC, Crazy Girls is moving to Planet Hollywood, taking the bronze with them.
Edit: Yup, opens May 13 at PH, albeit probably without some of the original items.

I feel like the first chick upped the value, and the second chick lowered it back down.

And I wonder if D/GG will change any of those VP paytables...if they don't...that probably means an average downgrade. I did find 98.86% Double Deuces for quarters during my last walkthrough of the Riv. I think 98.86% might be the lowest you can actually set that game...but I'm not sure.

I believe 8/5 BP vanished after the closure was announced. I noticed that while they took VP machines offline they removed the chips so maybe that is good news.

One thing I don't get is that most of the Riviera cabinets, especially VP, were archaic. I think most or all of the devices at The D downstairs are newer and many or maybe even most at Golden Gate are, too. They must have gotten a sweet deal. The owner was or is on the Riviera board and owned or previously owned some of it so maybe that contributed to the deal.

Here are some videos I took of the struggle trying to get the Crazy Girls statue onto the truck:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5i-SSjLdR0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i45W6F7AJVw (statue almost dumps over on them twice in this clip)

It took the mover a good 2-3 hours to get the statue and sign out of there.

There were still 6 slant top $1 8/5 BP machines.

It was not AP's or some big casino conspiracy that won all grand prize drawings. Someone was playing $25 slots and other really crappie games.

I have a friend that picked up a blackjack table from the El Rancho about 14 years ago for $900. Of course he didn't buy it from the El Rancho because it was already closed. It included everything, shoe, chairs--I think even cards. I think eventually he got tired of it taking up so much space.

I remember about 8 years ago there was a craps table just leaning against a wall of the parking structure at Texas Station. The legs had been removed and were leaning against the wall too. I don't know why it was just left to sit there for several months. Seems like if you talked to the right person it could be yours for the taking.

Someone playing high limit slots certainly deserved to win. My only exception to that is the promo was advertised as six different winners. That didn't happen. It doesn't matter now. I didn't care anyway as I had no way of winning the promo.

Kind of unrelated, but I was looking at the Riviera stuff on the NCL Sales website. I clicked on an individual item, and noticed that if you want to "leave a reply," you must be able to do algebra!

Quote: NCL Sales' website "anti-bot validator"

_____ + eight = 14

You have to fill in the blank. OK, very simple algebra, but algebra nonetheless!

I noted that numbers, the position of the blank, and the operator may change whenever the page is changed/refreshed.

I picked up three lighted box office displays for about $100 each plus tax. One was the Pinball Hall of Fame one in the underground entryway. The others were the Illusionist and comedy club.

Most of the people are picking through the hotel rooms. They only have a handful of floors in the newer towers open, mostly the suites in the Monaco and Monte Carlo towers. They will open the others up as time goes on. I imagine many of the rooms in the older tower are junk and they wanted to move the higher end items first.

Most of the one-of-a-kind items are sold including any small items with logos. There are a few box office signs left that advertise the restaurants and that "40 is not the new 20" show.
