Too many dead bodies lying around for my taste. Where can I stay in Las Vegas that I can be reasonably certain that they will collect the dead within the first hour?

Terrell met four people selling merchandise — CDs or bottled water or T-shirts — on the Strip on July 6 or 7. The five helped each other, then decided to party that night. Someone got a room at New York-New York, where the five hung out.

Sounds like a good paying job if you can party the night away in a strip hotel room after a hard day selling water.

For six hours, Terrell lay on the hallway floor near the elevator as hotel customers stepped around his body entering and exiting the elevator, according to what Sisolak said he was told by Metro.

It would appear most people don't mind their hallways littered with bodies.

I have standards! I require the dead to be collected on a timely basis! No tip for housekeeping!

No tip for housekeeping!

If the dead body is in your room, then tip for quick and quiet removal. If the dead body is in the hall, then it is probably not the housekeeping but instead janitorial services that would be responsible for removal, similar to removing dirty room service trays. There should be no need to tip for body removal in the halls, just in your own room.

The guy was lying in front if the elevators for 6 hours. If I were the dead guy, I'd sue for negligence!

I don't get it. He "met" four street hawkers and they all decided to party at NYNY, what was he a street hustler also? So they probably drink to what Terrel thought was oblivion but Big Guy was awake and checked for his wallet, caught up with Terrel, decked him and retrieved the wallets. They all remained in the room for awhile while everyone thought the dude by the elevator was "out of it" and it seems he was unconscious and drunk but alive.

So either this is a common situation in NYNY or the people in NYNY are in the habit of not raising a fuss.

Big deal.

According to the news video attached to this article, the name of the man who went to party with the four other men was "Christine". Maybe the party took a strange and unexpected turn at some point in the evening?

It's all about perception. Where I live in Chicago, having "only" 430 homicides in 2010 was cause for celebration as it was the city's lowest total going back until the early 60s.

In which case, the theft of all four wallets (which seems a bit strange) is most likely an agreed upon story and most likely something was discovered, there was an attempt to reach the elevator and (he or she) almost made it to safety. Absent any video tape of the hallway or elevator area, its unsolvable.

Don't casinos have security cameras in the hotel hallways?

Usually there are corridor and elevator area cameras but I don't know about this particular hotel, however, if the video were available I think the story would be out about it by now. Focus and field of view may not be optimal.

Why would - and how would - a tourist get a room at a strip hotel on his credit card (need one to get a room), and have four street peddlers sleep with him in the room. Then kill one of them in hand-to-hand combat over his stolen wallet by the elevators. And no one calls security, and surveillance (who has to see the man for hours on end laying out unconscious or dead) do nothing?

Well, when you fire half your employees and over work the other half of them to death, I guess you wind up with tired, overworked employees who don't really respond to situations any too promptly. Also if the assumption is that its just a drunk I guess no one really cares much.

Are there casinos when security would be there but quick? Sure. The top tier casinos. Men named Christine generally don't go to top tier hotels though with various street hustlers in tow.

Something is not quite right in the news reports but much of what is wrong is the result of the people they hire and then over work.

Well, they like to poke at people sleeping in front of slot machines.

All right, so it's ....

El Cortez: Allows homeless-appearing drunks to play table games, no questions asked.
NYNY: Allows the dead to camp for six hours in front of elevators, no questions asked.

Advantage: NYNY. The dead never take the dealer's bust card.

I think they did and security just couldn't be bothered.

Why call security... make book on whether he is drunk or dead! Or just step over him and go on about your own business, looking out for number one.

If this is how MGM treat their guests then you can find me at a place that treats their guests with dignity. The El Cortez! :)

I wonder how "Christine" was dressed?
I wonder how peoples' reactions would vary based upon perceiving a man, a woman, or a man dressed as a woman?
