I was at the El Cortez over the weekend and they have huge tubs of beer in the pits. Instead of waiting for a server, you evidently just ask the pit guys. I didn't notice anyone tipping them, either.

Do people who go to the Hell Cortez ever tip anyone for anything?

There still is a waitress in the pit. She runs between the two pit areas. Unfortunately the pit people will not grab a beer for you, or move the tub closer to you so you can help yourself. And yes I still tip.

Seems like a good idea. Keep them drinking to keep them playing longer and making mistakes.

Spend any amount of time at the tables and you will hear complaints from players wondering where the server is.

Thanks. I didn't notice any waitress but I didn't play. Was passing through around 2AM after the Fremont Country Club show.
Was very impressed how crowded the place was. They have added a lot of old VP machines, many of which are coin droppers.

Wait, so billryan says the pits will grab you a beer, but then ck says the pit people will not grab a beer for you. Which is it? Do you still have to wait for a waitress to come around to grab it for you or something?

This is... interesting. Imagine asking the pit DIRECTLY for 4-5 beers in a 'short-ish' time frame. They'll think you're hammered (as most would be) ;-).
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

I was only there a minute and didn't see a server. It was Saturday night and very crowded so perhaps the pit guy has helping out while at normal hours they don't.

I was there last month and asked a pit guy if he could just grab us one and he said he was not allowed to. You still might wait for a beer but it's much faster than waiting for a waitress. I thought it was a great idea.

I find at most casinos that rules are always different depending on who you talk to

In FL, you must take some sort of "alcohol safety/responsibility" course in order to legally serve alcohol to customers. I had to take it just to serve beer at Jaguars games years ago. I assume NV laws are similar, and that PB's do not usually take this course. So, they wouldn't legally be allowed to directly hand a beer to a player.

I actually enjoy the El Cortez. I do tip my dealers and waitresses. I am certainly not a George, but not a Fleastiff either...

I doubt the pit critters are serving. If so, they would have to have taken some classes in order to do so. Also, I'm pretty sure the cocktail waitress union would pitch a fit as well as the servers themselves. Seems like a good idea though.

I don't spend much time downtown.

But curious, who has been to the El Cortez more than once ?

I enjoy the ELCO every once in a while.

The whole Ellis Island package would fit in nicely downtown. I also like Ellis Island (mostly for the 8/5 Shockwave vp).

If you noticed, which bottled beer brand was most prominent?

My guess:

Bud Light

In bottles? Well La-de-la mister, you must be rich and fancy drinking that beer out of glass bottles. :)

I will say, having the beer in the pit has always been a nice bonus for me when I play there. Like some others have said, it's always been served by one of the waitresses though.
