Was at East Cannery earlier today. They are still open but it has the feel of a dying casino. As of Today, the deli at the sportsbook is closed as is the players club, making the line at the now combined players club/cashier even longer. They closed the buffet earlier this year, leaving only the coffee shop and steak house for food and the steakhouse is only open 4 days a week I believe.

It seems odd that Boyd appears to be letting this property die a slow death as they only purchased the 2 cannery properties a year and a half ago. Now it seems like they don't want them. They never put these properties on the Bconnected system.

Well maybe the steakhouse, Carve is closed now as well. I was there in the afternoon and Carve doesn't open until 5pm, so I did not notice. That would leave only the coffee shop. Pretty hard to keep people in the building if you close all the food outlets.

It used to be a bargain casino with good but heavily Latin music. It was awhile ago but it did feature coupons for Right/Wrong or Red/Black straddles that often let couples have a good shot a night's cheap entertainment without requiring any pretense of not knowing each other or gambling at different ends of the table. They were early users of Twitter but then it got excessive.

Wow, Their bingo room was half their clientele. They even had a bingo shuttle that would pick up anyone on the east side of town.

How does that Black/Red coupon work?

Oh this was quite some time ago and my overtaxed brain was not good then and I've been losing a lot of ground since, but I do recall their mailers had a coupon for match play. Many couples would show up and use their coupons to have a match play on opposite sides. Unlike other casinos, the Eastside Cannery welcomed the two players who obviously knew each other and were each using Match Play. Twenty dollars of your own money to make a forty dollar bet is a good deal particularly if your spouse has the same bet on the other side.

My poker player acquaintance who blogged about Vegas poker rooms, Vegas pool parties and homeless dogs would do the Eastside Cannery every day that she was not in jail for using heroin. She felt their mailers and spin wheel were generous.

Eater Vegas announced on June 1 that both the steakhouse and the deli have closed, as well as Big Mess BBQ at Sam's Town (another Boyd property).

I got a look at Carve's most recent menu; it wasn't so much a "steakhouse" as a "prime rib house that also serves filet mignon."

It really didn't last very long.

Eastside Cannery Casino and Hotel opened in August 2008, replacing the Nevada Palace, located on the same site since 1979.[1] Nevada Palace closed in February 2008, about two years after the property was purchased by Cannery Casino Resorts. It was torn down in phases as the new property was built behind it; the exact Nevada Palace site is now the current casino's parking lot. All Nevada Palace employees were offered other positions within the Cannery organization, and many were retained as Eastside Cannery staff.[2][3] The $250 million facility was the first major casino to open in more than a decade on Las Vegas’ eastside. It features approximately 2,000 slot machines, 26 table games, a 450-seat bingo room, a race and sports book and poker room, and stands 16 stories tall.
The property became part of Boyd Gaming in December 2016 through its acquisition of Cannery Casino Resorts.[4]

I know a guy who knew lots of guys who would use mailers and coupons to make a "route" every day. 20% loss rebate at Terrible's, match play here, free spin there, $5 short roll of quarters at I forget where if you cashed your paycheck assuming you had some straight job to go with the route.

He said you could usually get $150 a day then the idea was to hit the poker room and try to sucker a tourist to an all-in when you had American Airlines. Hardscrable life, but probably better than some gigs.

Wonder if he knew your friend?

I've been recently. You get what you pay for. Some people expect a $20 meal to taste like $50.

It didn't do that but i enjoyed the food. The service was great. The ambiance was cool. Old vegas. As you said, a fine value. Sad to see it go.

On at least one occasion i had to wait to get in.

The Deli was also great. Some of the best fries in vegas.

I wonder if boyd is intentionally running these places into the ground for some reason. I know I've read that they were quite successful previously.

I was told, on many an occasion, that the 20% loss rebate at Terribles was either once a year or once a lifetime. I got it twice, a year apart and it took a lot of teeth grinding to get the second one. It certainly wasn't daily after 2003. Can't say what it was before then. Lots of folks here have routes. They simply choose not to discuss them in public. Nothing very hardscrabble about it. Between multiplier days, bonus days and assorted promos, anyone who doesn't plan out their week and establish definite routes or routines is leaving money on the table.
One casino near me offers 6X points five days a week. Why anyone sets foot in there the other two days is a mystery to me.
Then again, Vegas is a city built on peoples greed and stupidity.

Another thing about the deli.

I've been to the sportsbook many times, and often ate at the deli. There was a line the majority of the time. Sometimes 7 or 8 people deep. Even with a rapid turn around on orders.

I don't know how they could have been losing money.

Joker's Wild is still the GOAT casino on Boulder Highway. No other casino has the Crazy Taxi arcade there. Also GOAT craps table with the old guy who yells "GIMME A T-I-E-N TEN!" and the snapping and grunting before setting the dice and then jumbling it up and chucking it up in the air.

Also quarter craps, and the fact most likely you'll know the payouts more then the dealers

That casino would offer the 6x points on the other two days a week if it had to.
A lot of people look at the various categories of offers and match up what they qualify for. Veterans, retired, etc. Geography may play a factor, so too many shuttle services but overall multipliers or potential multipliers do have a distinct effect. Eventually people do seem to become enamored of certain 'favorites'. Similar to listening to a radio station, people seem to enjoy music they recognize, so perhaps 6x doesn't always have to be offered. Some casinos have birthday deal on your birthday and some on a particular day that month. Locals obviously can celebrate their birthdays by taking advantage of deals in different casinos. Its simply a way casinos compete for customers and customers vote with their feet. My poker-blogger acquaintance visited several local casinos but tried to utilize those that were the most generous to her. And when she lost her car, the nearby Dotty's got most of her action.

Went to place a bet yesterday. Had to walk across the whole casino.

The parking lot was probably 80% full. The casino was bustling. There was a line at the last remaining restaurant. Just as there often was at the restaurants they closed. Also, it's a pretty nice place.

Granted, it is the beginning of the month and a weekend. Also, am not an expert on casino management. Or even a novice.

However, it seems very unlikely that this casino is unintentionally failing. I'm not sure what else could go right for them.

For what it is worth my experience today was just the opposite. The parking lot was unusually empty for a Sunday. I parked in the second closest spot to the front door. I get a large amount of freeplay each Saturday and Sunday am familiar with weekends, which is usually the only busy time at Eastside Cannery. Today was definitely not a usual Sunday crowd.

I walked by Carve and it was literally boarded up, like a closed business. I went to the sportsbook to take a look at the line on the basketball game and the deli was roped off with a big black curtain blocking the view. This place really has the appearance and feel of a casino about to close it's doors for good almost any day. I just hope I get to play down my substantial free play amounts before they do, which will likely take a couple months to cycle down.

I guess we're either going at different times or have different ideas of what a slow casino looks like. I have seen at least a few dozen people on machines 100% of the time. The tables are slow, but sometimes even they are busy. The restaurant usually seems fairly busy.

Nothing like the tomb that is SLS, on a much more expensive piece of land.

In any case, they are moving a ton of stuff around right now. The old player's club is being made into a sportsbook.

I think they are probably just downsizing the sportsbook a lot because it's pointless to have 2 branches next door to each other. The deli is likely closed temporarily for that reason. I

I doubt they'd be spending money moving all this stuff around just to close it a few weeks later.

It would not surprise me if they closed down the casino and just kept the hotel open.

Boyd Gaming is one of the cheapest employers in the state. I had an IT interview with them and they offered 20k below market.

Glad I never accepted. To see how bad their IT is just use one of their kiosks. The things barely work, take a good 30 seconds to even load after you put your pin number in. What a joke.

I am always amazed at the deals that the Nevada Gaming Commission approves. The entire locals market has been monopolized. Only two companies run almost every locals casino. This results in low paytables and paybacks. Slot machines' RTP is a horrible 85 percent.

You are better off playing on the strip.

Source? The latest gaming control board report shows an overall RTP of 94.25% for Boulder. (The listed areas are Downtown, Strip, North LV, Boulder, Laughlin, Mesquite, and the remainder of Clark County. I am assuming the casinos along Boulder Highway are considered part of the Boulder area; it does include 32 locations, but doesn't say what they are.)

The Nonrestricted Count report has the "area" designations. The Boulder Highway area includes almost everything with a Henderson address, stretching all the way west to M Resort. To the east, also Railroad Pass and Hoover Dam Lodge. And Montelago the next time it reopens.

For 1 cent machines, the RTP is listed at 89.44% during July, so I can believe some of them are set at 85%.

The RTP you are talking about includes all machines even $25 denomination. Most people aren’t playing $75 a hand on video poker or slots.

The average Joe plays penny slots which you are better off flushing your money down the toilet then playing them at locals casinos in Vegas.

I see that Eastside Cannery is one of a dozen or so Vegas locations still closed. Boyd says it'll reopen but, does anyone here believe them? They've already gutted the place to where it's now an embarrassing, faded shadow of its former self. They should just shoot the poor creature now and put it out of its misery. Who knows? Maybe a new owner will turn the property into a hotel/casino or something.
Have you tried 22 tonight? I said 22.

I don't know if Boyd really wants to sell it and add compettition back to Sam's Town.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.
