I don't think most people would appreciate Pioneer Saloon. I liked it, but I like to drink and my friend had a cask there.

It tips the scale when you throw in the ghost town AND the smallest post office in the U.S.ofA.

While worth the ride, it's about eight hours each way, so not a day trip.

Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon seem like a stretch for what I would consider a "day trip." You'd spend 8-9 hours of your day just driving. That doesn't leave much time for the experience. I would think that an overnight trip would be the minimum to enjoy either of these.

I know the article suggests a helicopter ride to the GC, but to me, "day trip" implies driving. If I have an aircraft at my disposal, that opens up a lot more "day trip" options!

I agree, if I have an aircraft available would be be going to the beach in San Diego or the La Brea tar pits in L.A.

I've done both. Drove to Bryce and did a one-day bus tour of the Canyon. The bus trip was okay, but I wouldn't want to drive it.
Bryce wasn't that bad a ride. Both were long days. On the road by 6AM, back after midnite.
