How many numbers on the Roulette towers? What casinos in Vegas generally have the most roulette games going at the same time? Thanks

Towers? Do you mean the history display?

It depends on the brand and model, but I've seen displays that show as few as 14 numbers, and as many as 22.

The marquee is there strictly as a convenience for
the player. They first started using them in the early
70's and the drop on roulette tripled overnight.

You got it. If the casino thought it helped a player win, they
would never have installed them. It makes players
lose 3 times faster.

I'd rather say, it makes players bet 3 times more. :P But yeah, statistics can help some people become more degenerate. It does for me.

But yeah, statistics can help some people become more degenerate. It does for me.

It does for me also, 88.3 percent of the time.

All joking aside, I think the influence of those annunciator panels showing the most recent "x" spins of the roulette wheel reflects how most casino gambling is a social activity. As various groups mill about a casino and debate various games to play together, that large annuncitor panel catches their attention and gives them "evidence". Now it doesn't matter if they feel that there has been "too many reds" so they should bet black or if they feel that "reds are trending on this wheel and it should therefore continue", it provides a basis for comment. Its a lure. Two couples who've just had dinner together can now continue the evening playing roulette together. The ebb and flow of the crowds is important to a casino.

If a game is slow, an empty roulette table can appear uninviting, but that display is never empty, it always offers that lure of certainty about the next spin. For many men it can be the attractiveness of the Blackjack dealer that is the determining factor or the location of an available seat. Decisions can be made on any number of reasons and the casino deals with the resultant flow of players.

Baccarat displays exist and have for some time but now MiniBacc displays show trends and the Asian symbol for monkey.

One advantage of the Big Six wheel has always been that it is high up above the crowd. Soon it too may have an annunciator panel as even more of a lure.

Once Binion picked up the peanut shells and swept up the sawdust to have it replaced by carpeting, gambling has become more and more a social event conducted in pairs and various other groupings. The annunciators provide interaction and invite entry.

Basis for comment? LOL

I've often said, for every guy who ever said, "Look honey, eight reds in a row. Let's bet on black," there was a guy who, moments earlier said, "Look honey, seven reds in a row. Let's bet on black."

On the other hand, looking at that history display, I would "see" pairs, flushes, full houses, etc., and say, "Why can't people bet on that?" That was the basis for my Poker For Roulette idea.

I'm not the only one who would see such patterns. This photo was taken by our own Wizard. The model is a friend of his.

My fave story about that is a few years ago I was at
the MGM and the marquee showed 9 reds in a row.
That particular pit is near the entrance and some guy
had just checked in and was hauling his huge bag to
the elevator when he spotted the 9 reds. He dragged
the bag over and slapped $200 on black. Lost. So he
put $400 on black. Lost. Now down $600, he put $800
on black. Lost. He was like a balloon with the air let
out.

He said to me "12 reds in a row, thats impossible.
I only brought $1500 with me to gamble with and I just
blew it and I haven't even got to my room yet." He put
his remaining $100 bill on black. Lost. He sat there
as red came in 3 more times for 16 in a row. Now he's
muttering that the MGM has gaffed wheels and they
cheated him. Of course I went along with it because
I'm perverted and he was super pissed as he went
looking for the casino manager. I love Vegas.

Really, this kind of stuff only happens on the Strip. If you got to the locals places, they are smarter and don't fall for those traps. You won't see people doing dumb stuff like that. Unless you happen to see me laying huge sums of money on the felt in craps (but supposedly I'm playing "smart").

I go to the Strip for entertainment/people-watching. It seems everytime I go there I see something that boggles the mind.

This photo is fake.

With this bad resolution, my best guess is that four of the 14s plus one 16 were photoshopped in.

Although that's possible, I seriously doubt that it was faked.

The original photo can be found near the middle of this page:
https://wizardofvegas.com/hotels/ballys/

Mike told me about the photo a few years ago and gave me permission to use it.

The photo was published on the Bally's page, about 4 months before I ever mentioned that I was working on a Roulette side bet. Mike had no reason to fake it.

Similarly, I have several interesting displays on my Sample Spins page, with more that I haven't gotten around to adding.

Truthfully, the displays usually don't have anything interesting enough to put on my website. But I often see at least one interesting display per casino visit, and take the picture if possible.

Regarding the photo in question, I DID do some slight re-touching to make some of the numbers more readable, but the results were unchanged.

I think he's right. The angle of the horizontal part of the "4" is identical to the topmost one, and doesn't match the horizontal part of the bottom of the "1" in places. This does look fake. (No slight intended on the lady in the picture though.)

Yeah, I embarrassed to report that these displays get me from time to time. I know better of course. The ball has no memory. But just yesterday I was walking by a roulette table and saw a whole board of "evens" the board had 15 numbers on display. I had just colored up at BJ and had a bunch of blacks in my hand. What to do?....you guessed it my dumb-ass put $100 on odd....result..24...dammitt...so I put another $100 on odd (even I'm not dumb enough to martingale)...just trying to break even. Result...4 Black...at that point I was smart enough to sigh and walk away(down $200 of course). I cashed in at the cage, and for curiosity's sake walked back by the table...4 more evens had come out and a 00. So real glad I left when I did.

not once did 20 in a row even money bets (yes I know they are not exactly even money 38/36) come up in my handy dandy Zumma tester.....16 was the most. 15,000 spins I'm guessing is still a small sampling.....probably need a million spins to find extremes

Not unusual for half the numbers to sleep for
a long period. Never bet against a streak like
that, always bet with it. That way you can only
lose once. If you see 12 reds, bet red. If you
win, walk away. If its black the streak is over,
walk away. Of course you can bet black and
hope the streak ends and walk away when it
doesn't. But nobody does that, do they.

Back when I thought you could wise up a chump, I
would tell that to people at the table, bet with the

I've since stopped wising up chumps, its an exercise

Its classic Gamblers Fallacy. Enough reds, black has to be due.

Yeah, it's Gambler's Fallacy.

It can be "explained" this way: In the short term that the average person sits at a Roulette table (a couple dozen spins at most), it's incredible to see 10 reds in a row. Clearly, there needs to be blacks to "balance things out", right?

The problem is, the casino doesn't exist in the short term. In the hundred thousand spin lifetime of a Roulette wheel, 10 reds in a row, or even 15 or 20, isn't that unusual.

Any use of the previous events of a truly random series to predict the next one is the use of the gambler's fallacy in action.

I don't think the lack of observations is the only cause for the fallacy. If you've never seen 10 reds in a row, then after 9 reds someone could argue '10 reds is due, so the next spin will more likely be red' or '10 reds is almost impossible, so the next spin will more likely be black'.

I think most people have a false concept of the 'law of great numbers'. It states (ignoring zeros) that the ratio of reds and blacks tends towards 1 with increasing numbers of spins. While this is perfectly true, there is a common (but false) conclusion that the number of reds and blacks tends to the same number - motivated by the (true) fact if the ratio of two numbers is 1, they must be equa
This might be true for numbers, but it is not true for limits. Lets make y always as large as x plus 100. With increasing x the ratio y/x tends towards 1. But y will always be larger than x (by 100), so y never approaches x.

Now if someone sees 100 reds in a row: the ratio of all upcoming reds (including the seen 100 or any other past) to all upcoming blacks will approach 1 (which is perfectly true). But the conclusion that the number of all upcoming blacks will approach the numbers of all upcoming reds (including the 100 seen reds) is false. The false conclusion then lets him think black has a higher probability (is 'due') because it has to 'catch up to the long run'.

I guess it's for real, then. Weird things like that, though improbable, are still possible.

If I saw a wheel doing all reds I'd probably bet next on red, simply because it's easier to explain it as a malfunction than plain chance.
