I know this is her pimp. But I have looked online as to what this stands for and I can't find the answer. I thought of calling Las Vegas Metro. But I don't think they want this kind of non-police related call. So what does DI stand for?

DI usually is Drill Instructor but I've never heard a Pimp referred to as that.

DI is daily income perhaps? An always exaggerated figure to be sure, except perhaps in Moldova where unemployment is 100 percent and licensed sex traffickers are required to keep Daily Income records.

I've heard the term used on that TV reality program filmed in Vegas where police are called for all manner of crime and such on the Strip. They'll question some pretty girl that they suspect as being a hooker and they'll ask her if she has a DI.

If somehow they're not talking about her pimp I'll just move to Wendover.

Could you have got it wrong. It should be ID instead of DI. In which case it just mean Identification papers.

The two times now that you have responded to my posts, you've done so by writing of things that might interest you but have nothing to do with my question. The first time it was in the elliptical argument thread. It would be nice to be acknowledged with something other than your sense of humor. But I don't want you to put you on the spot. I'm a jokester myself. Perhaps my questions just tickle your funny bone.

Let me try this. Did you sell all your furniture? Do you remember me from CC.com?

Terse, but real answers.

At CC I once ask you about my ambitions of using a $50 - $200 spread at SD blackjack, opening for $75 or $100. Never jumping my bets. You said that I would last 30 seconds at the EL CO and10 minutes at the Vegas Club. Then I'll get flyered all over town and not be happy. Then you mentioned that I could use my strategy at DD all over town, no problem.

I appreciated your advice. You ran a good site.

Wow! I clearly knew the SD burn joints back then, but I'm not sure about the DD advice. I tried to go to bjinfo.com (Ken Smith bought CC.com and reposted the message board there), to search for you, but now it is some Chinese site. I apologize for derailing your threads with goofball humor and hope someone can provide you with the right answer.

The DD advice you gave me was accurate back then. I use the spread in question now on DD games. But I've seen several knowledgable blackjack APs recently suggest that a 1-6 or even a 1-4 spread is barely tolerated now at the MGM and CET chains. But I don't play these stores anymore. Don't want to get the big 10-property tap.

Oh the days of playing the S17 DD game at Mirage...

Once took this same game to TI for $1,400 in 30 minutes. Never been back and no mailers.

In audio and sound engineering, a DI refers to a "direct input box." So, a working girl's "direct input box" might be slang for. . . um . . . . . uh . . . well . . . something that has a positive EV. Use your dadgum imagination.

Oh come on. It was a joke. The last part of my sentence was "tomorrow the answer cometh." As in "come," as in that's what your objective is with a hooker. A play on words. Comprende?

Gordonm888, isn't it funny that someone can say one thing and and the other person thinks it means something else? I wonder how many relationships were on the rocks, and something was said that was taken differently by the other person, and the relationship is over. And years later the one person doesn't understand why. And it all had its basis in a miscommunication.

So it's 8:43 a.m. when I call Las Vegas Metro and ask to speak to the Vice Department regarding my question about what DI stands for. I called two sub-stations, ask for the Vice Department, and the dispatcher politely said she would put me through. In both instances the phone just rang and rang (over 12 rings at both sub-stations). Perhaps the detectives don't come until 9:00 am, but how inefficient and rude it is to not at least be able to leave a message. Perhaps, in all fairness, if they had a message system they would be flooded with calls, some unrelated to police work like mine, that they would be obliged to respond to.

I'll call back after 9:00.

Edit: Called back at 9:27. (Same thing, phone just rings rings. Well, vice detectives do keep late hours.)

10: 08 (Thirty rings, no answer.)

11:30 called a group in Arizona that help prostitutes get out of the business. No one there has heard of the term.

This may not be the same thing, but it always sounded like "PI" to me on the Vegas Strip series.

Sure sounds like PI to me. But I couldn't find any reference to the term as it relates to prostitution either on Google or Urban Dictionary. I also asked two buddies of mine. One a Baltimore City cop, one a BCFD paramedic. Neither of them has ever heard the term PI or DI. As it relates to the worlds oldest profession. So the mystery continues.

Okay, I wasn't going to write this until I got confirmation, but a manager from a foundation that helps prostitutes told me that she thought I was referring to "PI" too. She told me that PI stands for "Pimp In Charge."

I didn't watch the whole video but that's two people that did and thought they heard the expression "PI" so I think that's the answer.

Edit: I just fast forwarded about 8 minutes in on the video and an officer definitely and emphatically said "PI"

(I had used the term DI in My $200 Vegas Hooker post, and I just corrected it to PI.)

For those that just meandered through this thread but missed it, it's PI and not DI. And PI is slang for a pimp and translates as "Pimp in Charge." And the thought just crossed my mind that I had always heard it on that program (for which the video is on this thread) as PI but for some reason remembered it as DI, because on the video it is perfectly clear that they're saying PI.

Too bad the thread title has DI in it since it is so misleading.

I thought of South Carolina too. Somehow North Carolina just doesn't have the same feel to. I guess South Caroling conjures up more Deep South images because it has the word South in it. And I guess that makes for a better joke because Deep South has a more laid back feel to it. And down south is where the word that rhymes with Carolina is. And down south is where things get warmer, even hotter. If you're looking for good girl you go north, if you're looking for bad girlsyou go south. The Ivy League universities are in the north; we think of students in sweaters. Too hot for that down south; women wear less, and perspiration is more likely; blouses are more clingy.

Yes, its PI probably a two letter computer entry code on police report forms and booking forms that came to be used as street slang.

By the way, I would think MOST of the girls do have PIs due to the dangers to trying to be independent and also the situation that girls in Las Vegas are NOT dedicated women who perform the act, they are opportunistic thieves who will perform the act if they have to do so to get their money.

The question of arrested anywhere in the USA is asked by the cops because if the suspect admits to a felony in another state it is an offense not to have registered as a convicted felon within ten days of arrival in Nevada. All airports, bus stations and border area roads have signs. Its rare for suspects to be so forthcoming with details but if they admit to an out of state arrest and a resulting felony conviction.... they are toast.

In earlier days, there was a grocery store known as Dick's.

Like so many grocery stores in smaller markets, they weren't the best on price or selection (as compared to the long drive into the big city), but they were pretty good (better than the convenience store, anyway), and they were what was nearby. They had a reasonable selection of pantry items, a good on-site bakery, meats, cheeses, frozen pizzas, and they were usually open until midnight (or maybe a little later). All of these wonderful things that made them a cornerstone in a small college town.

Like so many grocery stores, they offered a loyalty/rewards program. Some genius in marketing decided that the way to show that their customers had the inside line on the best deals was to name their program the "Insider Club".

That genius was right - every fall, as a new batch of students would arrive to college, there would be a huge swell in the card-carrying membership of the Dick's Insider Club.

(My understanding is that when the independent store was acquired by Piggly Wiggly, they changed the loyalty program in name and discount, and it's not nearly so good now. Also, there's now a Wal-Mart in town.)
May the cards fall in your favor.

Yes, DI was mistaken, by me, to be a prostitution slang term.

Great post. Wouldn't having been convicted of a felony in another state show up in the data bases the police would use on the spot if they ran a profile on someone during the initial stop? Of course being arrested for a felony might not show up because there may not be a conviction, but I would think a conviction would. So would lying about this be a crime? I could see lying to a police officer about a vital circumstance of the stop being a crime, but lying about a prior conviction, or just an arrest that didn't lead to a conviction? What do you think?
