Here is a full list: Updating: Which Las Vegas casinos, restaurants will reopen and when. Looks like most off-strip and downtown casinos will open and about 60% of the Strip.

Are you planning on going to the newly opened casinos? As a 'reporter'? As an AP looking for opportunities? As a tourist?

I'm absolutely going to be there on Thursday. Mostly as a reporter. Will keep an eye out for any re-opening plays.

How come some are reopening and some are not?

This list was prepared before there was rioting in the streets of Las Vegas. A "small change" amount of rioting compared to many other places in this country, but significantly more than zero.

If rioting extends inside casinos, millions of dollars of damage can occur in a small amount of time. Having dozens or hundreds of armed guards inside a casino to protect things could easily become a solution that is worse than the problem. Patrons would have legitimate fears of being caught in the crossfire.

If the rioting continues, I suspect many casinos on this list will decide to stay closed until there are several days of peace in a row.

On June 4th Nevada casinos can open. The big chains are only opening some of theirs because they don't expect much demand.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

Has there been rioting in Las Vegas in the past? Did casinos close at any point in the past due to riots? I don't see much online about past riots except for a few comments on race riots in the 60s that seemed very local.

Target is shutting some 150 stores today because of rioting.
More than 20 cities have imposed curfews Sunday night. (Police will be exercising extreme brutality for violating curfew.)
********************************************************************************************************************************
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey on Sunday imposed a weeklong, statewide curfew after a night of intense protests in the state.

Ducey issued a declaration of emergency that includes an 8 p.m. curfew, effective Sunday night and into the week, according to the governor's Twitter account. The order gives police an "additional tool" and will equip them to arrest protesters who plan to cause damage.

"Today’s declaration also authorizes an expanded National Guard mobilization to protect life and property throughout the state," Ducey said.

Smart move. Riots tend to burn themselves out after a few days. Better to close a few days than have your stores looted and destroyed.

BobDancer really had a good argument why the casinos might not reopen on the 4th.

Regarding the limited opening: casino resorts need 50% occupancy to break even. They know they're not getting enough business initially to open but a few resorts.

Frankly, I'm expecting slots to open but few table games in the early going.

But if there are riots or even large demos on the 3rd I don't think anything will open on the 4th.

On the May 28 GWAE podcast, we interviewed Ryan Growney, GM of the South Point Casino. it was on how things are going to be different on June 4 compared to March 11. It was taped when George Floyd was still alive and basically unknown nationally, so we had no idea that there would be riots and so didn't address that subject.

They are opening up with only 50% hotel occupancy max. Their machines have every other one closed down. Poker with be 4 players max. Some players will accept playing under these conditions. Some won't.

Personally, I'll be picking up free play if it's large enough, but not playing additionally. This will dry up my future offers for the time being. if and when i feel safe resuming my playing career, I know how to kick those offers back up again.

Whether the South Point will be making money at the start, I don't know. I suspect not. But they'll be on the path back.

In answer to Bill Ryan's question about earlier riots in Vegas closing things down, the answer is no. The Vegas hotels have never been shut down previously.

These are very large properties along the strip, it takes hundreds and maybe a thousand to staff it. Even at 50% capacity might be a break even point for many properties. Just like a commercial flight, a flight must reach a certain percentage of capacity in order for the flight to be profitable.

What I saw at Hard Rock in Biloxi, they just opened more tables, but I think there were 4, maybe 5 to a table.

The Aquarius is already sending out mailers too... which are decidedly not interesting. They do, however, seem to think that they don't have enough weekend traffic, as they're now offering free breakfast to their upper two (three?) tier members.

It's been a while since I was there, but it seems to me they had some nice dining specials that required a player's card. I like Aquarius, it should be one of Laughlin's crown jewels but for some reason seems to be an after-thought. When Harrahs owned it, it was the step-child and it has changed hands pretty frequently.
