Thanks for answering about your interest in Astronomy. I was getting mad at Heather for stepping on my question [hijacking with quark quizes] but she redeemed herself when she brought you back to the second part of the question ~ so now forgiven!

Funny that she didn't know the answer to her quark trivia and it would really have been impressive if she had asked if you knew the different 'flavors' !  I get the feeling that in elementary school science classes today, assuming there are such things*, the teachers like to teach about quarks as there is evidence it has evolved into a fun thing with cartoon drawings. This explains the popularity of quarks with those people out there who know a bit about them but have not otherwise taken many science courses ~ that had been quite a mystery to me and I have to thank you too for getting me to look into it.

*in my elementary school days there were no science courses, they had a subject called "health" they taught. This I think changed after the Sputnik shock. Slowly though, and it was 7th grade before I got any science courses. So I don't know, but suspect "science" is taught now explaining this development about flavors in quarks, along with the cartoon characters and all.

Thanks for the reminder on the quarks. I'm ashamed of myself I couldn't remember them.

I hope you continue to watch Ozark. It's a good show and (the just released) season 3 centers around a riverboat casino. Your thoughts would be interesting.

I'm drowning in a sea of Quarks.

I could see getting into an argument with someone whether or not you are pronouncing 'quark' correctly, as you could come out making it sound like 'quirk' and deny you did that!

Follow up question,

when did you learn about dark matter and dark energy, was it a shock to you, and what do you think dark matter is?

nobody has a clue what dark energy is [or do you disagree?]

I'm honored to get asked such tough questions about physics and the nature of the universe. To be honest, I'll have to do a little homework on this one, but I'll try.

Here are some less-than-tough questions:

Do your kids look at memes as a source for humor?

Do you think memes in general are funny?

Heather, have you seen “Casino Dealer Memes” on Facebook?

(I have had to limit my kids’ time spent on meme-viewing because their brains are getting mushy.)
