Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Talk about an advantage play!

People call me. I write down what they say. Then, they give me money.

Sounds like what a dealer once told me when I asked about a game I hadn't seen before. He said, "You put your money down, and the casino takes it away."

Learn to spot a compulsive gambler. Some people just have to bet and keep betting. Get a few of these types in your stable and you’ve got a steady stream of income.

So the question is, are you a compulsive bookie? Will you really retire permanently? It's gonna be a tough road. Good luck with it.

A win is more likely than not to be a loan.

Sigh. I wish more floor people took that attitude when resolving a dispute.

BEWARE OF WIFE.

ALWAYS good advice.

Don't be a chump. Keep it all.

>Most of the profits will come from a few players.
Unlike casinos which although they might like to have a desperate degenerate gambler seem to be generally content with just bring in the average sheep.

>A win is more likely than not to be a loan.
That is why casinos are always so pleasant to their customers. "Loans" can be repaid anywhere.

>New gamblers are the lifeblood of the business. Bookies are like vampires. They have to keep finding fresh blood or they die.
But new gamblers usually beat the bookie for several weeks, so it takes some courage to take on new blood.

>And finally, BEWARE OF WIFE.
Same rules in Film Noir: All women are gin-soaked temptresses who lead a man to his doom.... and never trust a cop, you just can't tell when he'll turn honest.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Consider yourself lucky your customer was local ? ? The first bookie I worked for, Henry G. was able to testify before the Kefauver committee and satisfy them he was a professional gambler, not a bookie. He paid a guy to collect tickets and mark race track programs. This was the 50's and no W2G's back then. So they took his word on the winners.

Needless to say, the Feds were not happy. Henry moved from Miami to Baltimore and opened a poolroom. I racked for him.
Henry was a square shooter and local cops, including my uncle, were taken care of.

Last time I saw Henry was in 1970's when he stopped in bowling alley to use a pay phone. Last I heard of Henry was later that year.
A mark in Miami was using a bugged payphone in Miami to call his bets into Henry. The guy had a jewelry store. His wife found out about the gambling losses and charged him with Embezzling. The store and everything was in her name. Local law enforcement owed a favor to the Feds and Henry was nailed.

Glad you ducked the bullet. Feds are relentless. I spent 4 years in USAF after The Lord disappeared under their noses. Luckily the riots in 1964 gave them some new guys to focus on.

I named my first grand-daughter Belle Starr. I thought about Virginia Hill, but luckily changed my mind LOL

SENATOR TOBEY: "But why would Joe Epstein give you all that money, Miss Hill?"

WITNESS: "You really want to know?"

SENATOR TOBEY: "Yes, I really want to know."

WITNESS: "Then I'll tell you why. Because I'm the best cocksucker in town!"

SENATOR KEFAUVER: "Order! I demand order!"

What is a first time rap going for now adays? Used to be probation first time, 30 days jail next time.

But nowadays your real trouble start with the IRS.

On the contrary - he's going to need some backup just in case Degenerate Husband's Wife goes looking for her son's college fund with a little help from her friends Smith and Wesson.

He does not want to piss of the guy who has a badge and a gun.

Plus, he seems like an honorable man. Why would he want to stiff the guy who is keeping him out of jail ?

Just hope the wife does not have a good lawyer ? In civil court MakingBook might be making payments to the kid's college fund.

Same could be said about casinos. Thats why casinos
are always looking for new games, its a viscious cycle.

And finally, BEWARE OF WIFE.

Women are different then men, and not in a good
way. Women tend to think about themselves and
whats good for them, far more than men do. The
only really happy married couple I know is because
the guy totally does whatever his wife wants. She
supports him, and he does all the cooking and
housework. He never disagree's with her, goes and
does whatever she wants, parrots all her beliefs.
As a person, he really doesn't exist. But they appear
very happy and are the envy of all the married women
I know. If any of the men ever get him alone, we
make fun of him non stop. What a wuss...

I'm sorry, I think I'm completely missing something here. Although I don't agree with the laws, why isn't Makingbook being thrown in jail for illegal gambling? Are the laws not so completely clear, leaving leeway for local law enforcement (thus the donation)? Also, the donation kind of sounds like a payoff... I'm sorry I don't mean to point a finger and say "arrest him" but I'm surprised nobody else is asking the question.

REALLY You mean that MOTHER who is looking out for her son's best interest.

Making Book knew the line when he entered the game. Not his fault either she married a LOSER.

But a good lawyer could really get into Making Book's pocket. He can not benefit from an illegal enterprise.

Arrests for gambling make the papers whenever some reform candidate runs for election or whenever some bookie fails to keep up his payments to the cops.

Perhaps you recall the model who put her eight million dollars under the management of her parents when she retired from an active modeling career. Her father invested her money in lottery tickets, often buying a thousand tickets a night. Do you think the Lottery Retailers and the NY Lottery itself should restore her eight million dollars to her? When its the taxpayers who have to foot the bill, suddenly it becomes a "the bookie is not responsible" theme.

Is this an urban legend? Do you realize the logistics
of 1000 a night? Were they scratch off or did the
computer just pick his numbers? At 1000 $1 tickets
a day, it would take 21 years to go thru 8mil.

He did a great deal more. Investments made and then withdrawn under substantial penalties, absurd schemes, real estate investments in non-existent projects, etc. Shredded documents. The lottery vendor knew he couldn't possibly be earning a thousand dollars a day by managing his daughter's portfolio, yet happily sold him tickets for almost two years. The father got a fairly short jail sentence for it, though in bankrupted his daughter.

If you will tip a waitress , why would you not tip the policeman who possibly kept your ass out of jail?

Why throw Makingbook in jail? Because the State today say bookmaking is illegal ? And then when the State makes book ( very soon)
will you throw the Governor in jail?

Bookmaking is a respected profession in the UK. Ladbrooke owns Penn National in USA. Penn national owns several racinos and casinos in the USA. Should Interpol be arresting Ladbrooke directors as head of a criminal enterprise ?
