Back in early 80's had a conversation with an AC casino manager about high prices in the casino's 2 restaurants. His reply was
"WHY SELL A HAMBURGER FOR $5 WHEN YOU CAN GET $15 ?' Looks to me like Vegas strip is going the $25 hamburger route,
Don't want to back to when the mob ran things, but it seems the MBA's have no idea about customer service. No longer making the customer feel like a CHAMP, but a CHUMP.
Feel free to add your examples, please. I mean take an average visitor, named Fred. Fred usually dines at Denny's or sometimes Outback Steak house or Red Lobster. A few visits back he discovered valet parking. No more dropping his wife off at front door, trying to remember where he parked, etc. Feel like a champ, let the valet park the car. When ready to leave, let the valet open the door for his wife, take the bottled water freely given, tip the valet $2 or 3. Feel like a winner even if Fred lost.
Now Fred has to pay for parking up front. And it is more than $3.
Then when Fred checks in, he finds the 2 free weekdays , when one is bought, well pay the resort fee for those free days. Even if Fred is nor a sort of resort guy. In some cases they will put a hold of $50_$100 on Fred's debit card, just in case he wrecks the room. Oh, he will get in back in a couple of days or a week, depends on the bank or card. Sure makes Fred feel like a champ, for sure.
Oh well, Fred is determined to have fun, It's a weekday and he heads for low limit blackjack table. Well, $15 is high limit for Fred. But wait, there is Stadium Blackjack. It is only $5 and it is just like regular blackjack. Thats's what it said on a commercial. in the newspaper, and even a casino employee in the SBJ area. And nobody at 3rd base to take the dealer's break card. YEAH
Well, after about a half hour all looked just like regular BJ, Then Fred got a pair of 8's against a dealer 6 , split first hand and got a 10 for 18 , got another 8 resplit, got a 10 for second 18. Was hoping for a 2 or 3 to double down on one of them, but oh well. Whoa, happy days Another 8, 2 more chances to get that 2 or 3 and double down.
Wait, why did the split option disappear? Sorry Fred. There is no 3rd baseman, but a SHFL designer decided there was not enough room to split to 3 hands, despite appearing otherwise. And he missed the class on shrinking a dispaly. Oh look Freed , the next cards were a 3 and a 10. Dealer 19, you lose all three hands, CHUMP.
Later when Fred again split 8's , this time against a dealer's 10, he knew the rules. And basic strategy. He wound up splitting twice busted first 2 hand, but did get a double down on last hand ? Pretty confident he should at least break even, and possibly show a $5 profit. But then the dealer turned over an Ace for BJ.
Fred though this must be that European No Hole Card he heard about. He never had that at a regular blackjack table here in USA, be he knew In Europe you only lose the original bet. WHOA, once again. Wrong Continent. Crocodile Dundee could have told Fred that he just lost all 3 bets. Fred look for some compassion from the dealer or his fellow players. But there were no fellow players and the dealer as 53 feet away and dealing the next hand.
He headed to the poker room, got on the waiting list, and headed for penny slots. He once won $100 on a 9 cent bet. But mainly just interested in blowing a few dollars until a spot open open in the poker room. He sat down at a familiar penny slot. Lasy year you had to be 30 cents to make the bonus available. Fred often just bet 10 or 15 cents. Well, the buttons are still there, but blacked out and disabled. Either bet at least 60 cents or move on CHUMP.
Fred decided to find his wife, sat next to her, both betting 90 cents a spin. As a barmaid walked by, he asked for 2 diet cokes. Sorry Fred, your slot machine does not have a green light yet. Your wife can get a coke, but not you CHUMP.
Well, at least Fred's wife had earned some comps. Not as many as last year but enough for 2 buffets. The long was long, but people seemed to be able to walk past Mr & Mrs. Fred and go right on in. OH, that's right. They are preferred customers. Used to be they had a separate entrance, but some MBA decided that was unnecessary. Somehow Fred's meal did not taste as good as in the past.
Maybe next year he and Mrs. Fred might save the travel expenses, visit a local casino, and feel more like a prince than a pauper.

I call this the Lamborghini Maxim:

"If a company is selling something you can't afford, then you're not the demographic they're after."

Very few of us in this forum can afford to buy a Lamborghini. Therefore, we are not the target audience for Lamborghinis.

Same goes with casinos. Don't want to pay for a $25 burger? Or 6:5 blackjack? Then you're not the target audience.

I also see this a lot with Disney World. People complain about how it's so expensive now to take a family to Disney World. Well, then, you're not the audience they're after.

Nobody has a right to be able to afford Lamborghinis, or casino trips, or Disney World. It doesn't do any good to get upset about a company when they don't want your business in the first place.

You can't split 8's a third rime, stuck with 16. You lose any busted hand plus 1 bet if Dealer has a BJ. Yet many newspaper articles say it is just like regular blackjack, also on casino websites, ask an employee etc. Even Henry Tamburin thought it was ENHC, where you just lose your original bet, This after a meeting with Gabe Baron of SHFL. Gabe did correct himself before Henry wrote his article for Casino Player magazine.
Not an intentional 3rd baseman, but have to think splitting to 4 hand is not beyond SHFL progtamming skill, and why not not hole card similar to Europe instead of B+1 as in Australia.

Fleur, Mandalay Bay.

$5,000.

There's a White Castle right by Harrah's, I think. I'd rather drop $5 for some burgers there, and the other $4,995 at the Tile tables... haha!

Used to be a $5,000 burger that came with a diamond toothpick or something. I've seen a few over $200 but not sure what the most expensive is.

Palms used to offer a wine pairing menu. One choice was a Carl Jr burger and a $5,000 bottle of wine.

Like i always said, i could triple a casinos revenues if i was the head executive. Casinos are ridiculously short sighted and dont understand that 'volume' at lower prices or smaller edge in gambling when you have an infinite bankroll is much MORE important than destroying the games and raising prices on everything especially when 95% of the economy is struggling to make ends meet.

The OP said it best, make them feel like a CHAMP, not a CHUMP. Volume precedes earnings in everything. Too bad id never work for a morally corrupt industry so theyll never get the 3x increase.

Vegas is lucky their weather is for the most part generally decent with california and other tourist type attractions next to it or else theyd be the next AC. It also helps to have a lot more casinos than AC, but theyre making the same mistakes that AC did. If i was a real estate investor or enthusiast, id be forming the next vegas as we speak because these Vegas and AC have no idea what theyre doing.
Any private business open to the PUBLIC (ie. droned out casinos) cannot have a criminal trespass enforced against an individual without GOOD CAUSE (Disruptive or Disorderly conduct). You will never go to prison for being thrown out of a casino for legal advantage play and then returning because it's simply unconstitutional 'as applied' to the individual. 'As applied' constitutional issues must FIRST be raised in DISTRICT COURT (trial court) to have it thrown out. You CANNOT raise it on APPEAL This is the best kept secret in the world of casinos not just in Vegas but everywhere in the country. Thank me later.

They already were rushing before the tax cut. In your world that’s 2 extra steaks a week.

Still would love that backstory on how someone as successful as you ended up this bitter toward your fellow Americans.

I may not believe all liberals are bad, but you sure give them a bad name. Now call me selfish again with a straight face.

Great story and great analogy. Fortunately, the Strip is one 3.5 mile stretch of road in a city 400-square miles. There are plenty of places to get a McDouble for $1 -- and if you do some research they'll even pay you to eat their hamburgers

I like to use raw oysters as a metric for figuring out how over-priced the casino restaurants are. I figure (a) its a single ingredient dish, (b) all the restaurants in town are probably getting them from the same wholesaler and (c) there is minimal labor required. At Borgota's Old Homestead it's $4 per oyster while at Dock's they go for $2.25. That's a 77% markup!

As for best burger at a reasonable price, I vote for Bobby Flay's Burger Palace. There is one on the LV Strip and one at Mohegan Sun.
My goal of being well informed conflicts with my goal of remaining sane.
