Aliante casino is too far from my home (25 miles) so I have only been there 2 or 3 times. Will this be an upgrade for players or was Aliante a pretty good play?

I think Boyd is close to acquiring the cannery properties also. Virtually everything becoming a Boyd, stations, mgm, Derek Stevens, or CET property is definitely a bad thing, less competition.

I would agree that there is consolidation however there are also more independents - Scarlett pearl is new - nugget lake Charles revel may be reopening - new Philadlephia live the jack properties

LOL. Pretty sure the closest GN to Houston is also the GN with the MOST influence from ownership...

They have an independent sportsbook -- make their own lines.
This is valuable for sports bettors since it allows line shopping for the best odds and an occasional arbitrage bet.
Just like independent casinos, the independent books are gradually disappearing and being replaced by a few big companies.

If they start changing the friendliness of the staff, look out! And let's see whether they perpetrate another disaster like the Suncoast buffet or try at least to work at the Orleans level.

Rest In Peace Prince and Aliante

Best musician in history is quite a claim, best independent sports book in the city is from the same source. I will admit that Prince had a bit of magic, I have no basis for an opinion on Aliante Sports Book. Since you say they were/are the best, a change there will prolly not improve the situation.

I know this thread is old, but I wonder how Boyd is sitting with everyone. It seems to me Boyd, while big, has to complete hard against Cesar's and MGM who are much bigger. I would think that is a net good for players because I've heard some stories here about Boyd properties having very competitive mail and promotions, especially for locals.

The reason I ask is that St Louis just learned that they are getting a Boyd owned casino as a result of the Penn acquisition of pinnacle. The end result is that 3 metro area casinos will be owned by Penn, and 3 will have other owners, all different.

Based on what you guys have seen in Las Vegas, would you expect Boyd to step up promotions and offers to compete or just blend in with whatever Penn does? Any lessons learned anyone is willing to share on how to get good mail / offers from Boyd?

Ceasars has been good at keeping me in their properties with deals on rooms, but I did swing by Sam's Town the last time I was in Tunica and played their 9/6 Jack's or better game and a low limit 3-2 black jack game during the after effects of a hurricane. They we're drawing names of people who had a card in play giving away free play to a mostly empty room. I can tell you that is not how you do make it rain free play.

One other question... I'm pretty certain pinnacle has put me on the no mail list seeing as I don't get any mail from them. I suspect Penn will get all their records as part of the acquisition, so I'm probably not in great shape in that regard... But do you think Boyd will be in the know or will they have to figure me out on their own?

Thanks

Boyd has been better to me than I expected. Don't know about LV, but IP Biloxi has been quite generous. I get VIP invites, free concerts, comp rooms on short notice, some small fp weekly (less than $100). In some ways, better than Harrah's lately for similar play.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I regularly stay at MSS when I visit Vegas. Always have a room offer every month for 4 days. Used to get $100 in free play and vouchers for very discounted meals and buffets. Now I get $75 in free play and $25 in food vouchers.. so not quite as favorable as it used to be.

Their 600 pt = $1 in comps is pretty nice. Beats 1000 pt = $1 free play.

$10 a point nub

That reminds me of those highway billboards that Rampart and South Point have that breaks down the points of all casinos and their own. It's clear by looking at it Rampart (0.25%) and South Point (0.3%) are the best but I don't think people care to find that out

Boyd in Vegas for myself isn't that great. I currently get 45 x 4 in food coupons so that is 180 a month and I get 540 in Free Play which is broken up 9 x 60 but you have to play a lot to get that. Other people that I know get around 80 in food per month and 300 in FP or so. IMO Boyd isn't great for mail especially since they combined all the properties but they have good point days and beatable games. Gone is the monster money maker that was Young at Heart, not that it isn't still decent but for the first two years it was basically a 3 to 5% hammer and it seems Sam's Town got really upset about it compared to other properties.

One place in Vegas they have games that you can get an average of 107% winners but it isn't common knowledge. I think the big thing with Boyd and only certain Boyd Properties is the Courtesy Comp System which can be very lucrative on a per trip basis so you have to be able to play with them regularly or you will not be able to make it work in the positive.
