I have no problem admitting that technical is not my bag. I'm much more practical and prefer to focus on reality over theory.

If you think that "reality" and "theory" are mutually exclusive, then there's no real hope of your ever understanding all this. In your way of thinking, you shouldn't ever maintain or replace the brakes on your trucks because, after all, gravity is just a "theory".

Gravity, Einstein, is not a theory. Relativity is the theory.

Who says I care to understand your twisted way of thinking? The reality is I'm on the winning streak of my life and it bugs you no end. Now tell us, in theory of course, how could it get any better than that!

Since you refer to Einstein, you should know that his theory of gravitation was a part of his universal theory of relativity, You would know that if you were an educated person. But your characterization of "theoretical" as "not real" pretty well shows us (and the world at large) that you're not.

Join the modern, I mean REAL world. The theory of gravitation hasn't been a theory for so long, you probably haven't gotten that far in your internet search yet.

It has never been anything other than a theory (which you think means, "it isn't real"). I learned that in seventh grade, long before the internet existed. You remember seventh grade, don't you, Jerry? The best four years of your life?

That's a lie and you need to read on. One thing others have said is how you won't back off a lie and won't ever admit to being wrong. Well, let me be the one who curdles your milk!

GRAVITY: One of the basic forces in nature. Gravity operates between any two objects that have mass with an attractive force that is directly proportional to the masses of the objects and is inversely proportional to the square of the separation distance. In Einstein's general theory of relativity, gravity is viewed as a consequence of the curvature of space-time induced by the presence of a massive object. In quantum mechanics, the gravitational field is seen as being conveyed by quanta called gravitons.

Gee mkl, sure enough looks like gravity has gotten beyond the theoretical stage and is REAL now, doesnt it!

I don't know where you quoted that from (and I know how much you scorn taking quotes from the internet to make a point!!!!!), but if you read it, it doesn't say anything about the word "theory" in relation to gravity one way or the other. To spell it out for you, the article neither says that gravity is a theory nor that it is not. It does mention Einstein's "theory" of relativity, which as we know, you think means that it isn't real.

You should still fix the brakes on your trucks, though, even if gravity IS only "theoretical". Trucks go downhill and might need to stop at the bottom (I'm explaining this because you seem to know so little about trucking OR gravity.)

I could point you at a hundred sites that explain Einstein's "theory of gravity", but a poor student like yourself should learn to do his own research.

I always thought Newton came up with the theory of gravity.

Ah well, thats the British Education system for you.

Newton did. His "Theory of Gravity" was superseded by Einstein's theory of the same name. In the strictest sense, Newton's Theory wasn't invalidated; it was just expanded on by Einstein with his notions of curved space and extralinear time.

Newton's theory is still valid in terms of observations made on a terrestrial scale (or, to put it more precisely, the errors in predictions made using his theory aren't large enough to matter on that scale).

I thought Einstein's two theories were called General Relativity and Special Relativity, General incorporating gravity into the framework.

I'm being pedantic, so no matter. I've never heard it called Einstein's theory of Gravity, that's all. Your point is well made.

I've heard it termed that way, as well as his Theory of Gravity being a separate concept. Probably because one predated the other.

mkl will go on and on and on with his denial that he didn't get this right, even with the help of his computer. But that's typical of those who live on forums in anonymity while spewing false assertions all over. No accountability, no foul. He does, however, readily display uneasiness when caught, and caught he was on gravity. Kind of pulls him down, doesn't it!

You're kind of cute in your stupidity.

From http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/space/universe/questions_and_ideas/general_relativity

Albert Einstein built up his theory of gravity, general relativity, through a series of 'thought experiments' and mathematical proofs. In 1915 he showed that gravity is caused by objects with mass such as planets and stars warping space-time. For example, the Earth is caught in the curve in space-time caused by the Sun, and the Moon is caught in a warp created by the Earth. Similarly light is bent when it passes massive objects like galaxies.

Go ahead, let's hear some Jerry-logic about how this is incorrect.

mkl you're just like the liberal whiners who can't stand it when they get slapped down. In fact, you are one, correct?

Everything in science starts off as a theory. That's what I was trying to help you with before so you didn't look like an idiot again! But guess what, the theory has been figured out and is no longer a theory! Duh!!

God, I love it when I teach a teacher!

Hee hee. The voice of ignorance.

I'm neither a liberal nor a conservative, but what on earth does that have to do with a question about science?

In fact, not everything in science does "start off as a theory", but that's also irrelevant. The theory of gravity has NOT "been figured out"--that's why it's still called a theory.

I'd explain exactly why this is, but you're simply not worth the typing; you wouldn't have a prayer of understanding it. You should have come to high school science class instead of smoking dope in the boys' restroom.

Let's see....you've provided some article that quoted Einstein about the theory of gravity. Was that just yeaterday?! (hehehehaha!)

You should read more recent essays and then provide your own bloviation, and you will finally realize that gravity is well defined by science these days.

Teach the teacher....what a concept!

Jerry didn't you say you will be going to Vegas soon? I'm going this Thurs until Monday, so if you are going to be out there then I would be interested in observing you play and posting the experience on here afterward.

I'd be very interested to see if there actually is such a person as "Jerry Logan". We know what Rob Singer looks like, so a picture would be nice. Ideally, we get a picture of Rob Singer in full lip-lock with Jerry Logan, together with some verification that the other person's name actually is "Jerry Logan."

I said I was going to LV in March or April for my next trip. I also said RS is training me later this week, and I don't know where he wants to do that yet (I want to hit the $1 through $10 machines again but there are none in Phoenix casinos). However, I have promised to take a picture of BOTH of us when I hit a jackpot if we can fit in front of the machine along with the winning hand. I know most know what he looks like. I'll be the younger, handsome devil.
