Most of us don't care if anyone else believes them. I tell people that I have designed and programmed slot machines and slot systems in some capactity for the last 25 years, if they don't believe me I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

I believe you because there is no downside to doubting what you say. The problem arises when what you say may cost me money. If you tell me doing something will make a profit and it doesn't work out as you say, are you going to reimburse me for my losses? You could tell me I didn't follow your instructions or I am not intelligent or disciplined enough. That is not going to get me my money back. We need to be careful what we say when it comes to other people's money.

Fair enough. I am skeptical about many of the claims made on these forums myself. How can you expect someone to believe you if you don't produce proof or at least some documentation to back up your claims?

One generality is that the more outstanding (which is to say, less common) the claim, the greater the amount of evidence is needed to prove said claim. For example, December is a month in which it snows in a great part of the country and many people on the forum know where I am from, given that, if I say I just looked out the front door and there is snow on the grass...that's not a difficult claim to believe. I could prove it, but it is highly unlikely that such proof would be demanded of me simply because of how common it is for it to be snowing in my area.

More than that, the ability for someone to (easily) verify my claims. They could look at the weather report for last night and this morning, see that it was indeed supposed to snow, which makes my claim all the more believable without concrete proof.

Your claim CANNOT be easily verified. In addition to the obvious task of going to Atlantic City, I would also have to play a negative expectation game waiting for a specific result that, even if it DID once exist, might not be the case anymore, to happen. How much money do I expect to lose in this process? Also, at what point can I satisfy myself (hands played) that the problem either does not exist anymore or has since been corrected?

So, I usually do not make a claim that I consider to be outstanding unless I am fully prepared to be able to prove it to one degree or the other. When I have, I might say something like, "I can prove this if anybody wants me to." For the most part, though, the statements I make on the forums are extremely believable because they are generally not extraordinary.

Immaterial. Just because you listen does not require you to act. Hell, advertisements on TV aren't even held to the standard that you are suggesting above...and they're actually selling you something. More than that, I can only think of a very select few situations in which a profit is absolutely guaranteed.

Are you about to have a breakthrough that your video poker claim could be considered extraordinary, and therefore, difficult to believe absent proof?

Perhaps. The only claim I ever made was playing 97% poker games smaller saves money? Is that what you are referring to?

If you are referring to my report of what happened at the casino in AC, I have no proof other than the witness who was with me. I suspect the casino has a tape of us standing around for 45 minutes waiting for the manager. Do you believe we would have done that if we didn't have a good reason?

I do not believe that you would have done that if you did not think you had a good reason. Again, I would mainly be interested in the proof of the event itself rather than the aftermath of said event. I have no reason to call anything in the aftermath into question. Additionally, I forget when specifically you said this occurred, but again, it's somewhat possible that the surveillance tapes don't exist anymore and about 0.0000001% likely (by my estimation) that they would let me see them if I asked.

I don't think anybody is questioning what you believe you saw. I have probably played a million hands of video poker and I have seen it too. The difference is when I have seen it I stick my key in and check, and I have been wrong every time.

That's nice that you cherry picked a single situation in a single casino where you get a higher edge playing single coin higher denom. Do a full inventory at that casino and it won't be the case. Do an inventory across multiple casinos and it won't be the case.

It just plain isn't usual for the next denomination up to be a 2%+ better game. Obviously in some instances it is. Those are unusual exceptions.

Your variance argument is completely unrelated to your lower house advantage argument.

Obviously most players don't play with an advantage. It's in their best interest financially to short coin the lowest denomination if they play at all. But this "tool" of playing a single coin at a higher denomination just isn't extremely useful in the real world, except in very limited circumstances. You seem to think it's the holy grail of reducing the house advantage for the common man, when in reality it's totally useless to the vast majority of gamblers.

I get it ... your casino cripples the 5 cent paytables. Yes, playing single quarters produces a lower house advantage in your instance. Your case ISN'T COMMON AT ALL.

From nickels to quarters, it's probably more common then you think now. Obviously it "depends". Although if someone finds a "Hot Roll" poker machine, or a "Double Big Wheel" machine, it probably won't be 2 notches or more worse than quarters. JoB and DDB must be 8/5. And both games can be played for 1 line betting 5, iirc.

We were on vacation. We have never heard of the key you are referring to. We are never going back to AC, so there is no reason for us to be involved any further. If I witnessed this occurring in Florida, it would be worthless to report it as there is no one to report it to. Florida does not have a gambling commission. The tribes make all the rules. Another reason to play small.

Shouldn't the gambling threshold Jackpot be RAISED from $1,200? $1,200 was the gambling threshold established in the 1970's where $1,200 was a really, really big deal. It has stayed $1,200 ever since 1970's. In 2019, $1200 is no longer a really big deal. In 2019, many people have a $2,000 a month living budget. When you add taxes, that $1200 win is $804 take home pay, once again, not really all that impressive. And there were actually talks about lowering the Jackpot Threshold to $600, HALF, when it should have at least doubled, what an unfunny joke. That proposal was understandably vetoed, no surprise. $2,500 is what it should be raised to at the very least.

A woman told me she gave a Casino Friend $50 after she was way up and the Friend had lost all of her money. One day when she ended up losing money herself, she went up the Friend who was playing a Slot and asked her for $1 because she was a dollar short for a meal. The Casino Friend rudely yelled at her that she didn't have any money! This is the same woman who gave her $50 when she lost all her money and she wouldn't even give her $1 for a damn meal! She later realized her huge mistake in denying so rudely a dollar to someone who had given her $50 and begun trying to kiss her now Former Friend's ass but the first woman was so over her after being rudely denied. She said that she didn't wish her any harm but would no longer consider her a friend after what she did(More like didn't do) to her. I feel that's really disgusting to rudely deny someone $1 when they needed help after they gave you $50 in your time of need. The second woman deserved the implied shun she got for that rude stunt she did(Didn't do)

I reported the malfunction and the casino chose not to respond.

They had absolutely no reason to investigate any further, based simply on your reporting. I could report the killer of Jonbenet Ramsey, but if that's the only information I provide, when additional evidence would have been very easy to collect, no one in any authority is going to care.

Quote: SingleCoinVP

With all due respect, if you had seen what we saw you would have done the same thing. We reported what we saw and waited for a response. No response came. We left and went to another casino.

You are completely wrong here. Most everyone here would have done something completely different. Your thinking that we would all act exactly as you would shows how out of touch you are with other people who play casino games and video poker. Most all of us would have notified law enforcement and provided them with sufficient and easily obtainable evidence.

Quote: SingleCoinVP

Why don't you ask the casino to look back at the recordings of our play that night?

Because we already know what the answer and response will be -- and we believe such a response to be completely reasonable. To even ask someone is just another way you show how out of touch you are with everyone else who plays these games.

Quote: SingleCoinVP

I choose to give them the benefit of the doubt and attribute what we saw to poor maintenance. Have you ever played a video poker machine with broken or malfunctioning buttons? How about a bad screen? Sometimes we search an entire row of machines before we find one without issues. All of these issues have the potential to increase the house edge.

If it was true that wear and tear could change the odds, none of these machines would not be allowed in Nevada and most other states. Yet I see lots of them every week.

There was a Family Guy episode where Peter sues a McDonald like restaurant for serving him 30 hamburgers in ONE SITTING(Peter was given an offer of free food for life after getting the Burger Place Manager out of the butning restaurant) and he gets a stroke, Lois has to treat him like her SON rather than her husband and he can't even drink a glass of beer the right way! He can barely even drive! He happens to pass the Burger Place and blames the restaurant for giving him 30 burgers in one sitting.

He then passes a Stem Cell Research building, walks in, and like one hour later, he is completely recovered from his stroke. He sues McBurger or whatever the place is and he loses since it was decided it was his own personal choice to eat 30 burgers in one sitting. Brian told him the same thing. Viewers of this particular episode noted that Peter didn't seem to be much of his normal stupid self, seeing that he ended up saving someone's life and actually sued a restaurant after getting a stroke after eating there. They mentioned this is one of the most serious Peter episodes. IIRC, it was also noted how realistic Peter suing after getting a stroke came across.

A guy lost like $800,000 the same day in Vegas (He had already been clearly drunk and the Casinos still served him alcohol, so naturally he was playing stupid bets(High bets that wouldn't make sense to someone who wasn't really drunk) and he sued after getting sober claiming he shouldn't have been given even more alcohol after being clearly drunk. The Casinos countered with basically,"We are not his parents and he is not our child nor is he a child. We shouldn't have to tell a grown adult to stop drinking and gambling." IIRC, the Casino staff did mention they knew he would go after them so bad for his lost money when he sobered up and he did. He lost his lawsuit, making him a loser twice .

Should he have won his lawsuit? I mean in my job that sells alcoholic drinks, we are told not to sell someone who is already really drunk any liquor. Bars are supposed to cut off people who are really drunk too. I saw an article saying that the guy was stumbling, slurring his words and they were still serving him alcohol. On the other hand he is an adult and didn't have to get that drunk, so I don't know. :/

Well let's just say that I was warned about my unacceptable tardiness multiple times by both Hogwarts Teachers and Students. The Headmaster came to Hogwarts one day like three months ago and wanted to suspend me for FIVE days because of my constant tardiness. The Students and Teachers BEGGED the Headmaster not to suspend me, and the Headmaster decided not to suspend me.

I continued to come unacceptably tardy more times and even signed two write ups. The other day, I had completely forgotten that the Headmaster was coming for a visit, and I came extremely late that day. (This is after I signed two write ups) Whoops idiot! The Headmaster congratulated me on my great spells and positive attitude but did question me about my punctuality). I thought I may be off the hook since I wasn't told I was suspended that day.

The very next day , despite actually coming on the acceptable time, I was told by my Teachers that I was suspended for TWO days for my previous tardiness. Especially coming in late the same day The Headmaster visited. I shook my Teachers's hand for not giving me the full FIVE days suspension. (In theory my great spells and positive attitude may have countered my tardiness). Students kind of smugly said that I was warned multiple times and even signed two write ups about my unacceptable tardiness though some Students did show sadness about my two day suspension) I was told by Teachers that another tardiness would result in an expulsion from Hogwarts and I now come to Hogwarts on time.

The Scarab Jewel confusion thing happened to me personally my very first try on Scarab. I got a full line of Scarab Jewel on like Game 8 and didn't win ANY money for it. I was baffled and I personally thought the game was a scam. The ONLY reason I didn't stop playing then and there was because I was already on Game 8 out of 10 and assumed something really good happened on Game 10, so I played two more games and the "Non paying Scarab jewels," turned into WILDS and I got like $50 on a .75 bet! :D Not bad at all! I could see someone else leaving after the "Scarab jewels," paid nothing despite having a full line of them.

I post on this forum because I wish to share experiences with other video poker players. It seems this forum is only about sharing "winning" experiences. That is not the total video poker experience that I know.

I am well aware that the casino will go to great lengths to get my money. If you don't believe the casino can cheat you legally, what you don't know could hurt you. Bad buttons, poor maintenance, shaky screens and uncomfortable locations cut into your returns. Have you ever noticed the best games are hidden behind the craps tables or under a dripping air conditioning duct?

The casino temps you with bigger jackpots, bigger comps and drawings you rarely win. Why do you think alcohol is free in a casino? Casino gambling is a war between you and the casino. A tiny few win the war lifetime. I will never be one of them because I won't or can't do what it takes.

My way of combating the casino is to limit my coin in. Odds are important to me only because they let me play more hands with my money. I enjoy the casino's hospitality without paying full price. I play the same games as someone who plays $5 a hand without the risk or the depression. My personal finances have nothing to do with my success or failure as a video poker player. I am a frugal gambler for a reason. I didn't get where I am today by throwing my money away.

If and when the casino decides to cut off my room comps, I will have some decisions to make. I can continue to "cheat" the casino by playing small and pay for my own rooms, or go back to losing more like the casino wants me to. I believe they will continue to comp my rooms because they want the war to continue. Bob Dancer told me not to play negative video poker games. That was good advice. The difference in doing what he says and what I do is worth the cost of the experience. Doing what the casino wants is not.

Boz,
I'm going to reprimand you for hijacking this thread by re-posting many of Nathan's posts verbatim
It was amusing for a while, but when a member is nuked here, we no longer wish to see their opinions.

That wasn't amusing at all.

And just a slap on the wrist for hijacking, borderline trolling and quoting a banned member ad nauseam all rolled into one?

Feedback Noted. Thank you.
I reckon Boz was being deliberately provocative to get a response of suspension. I chose not to give him what I perceived he wanted. $:o)
He'll get plenty more opportunities to get suspended.

Don't be a Grinch . Every child should get what they want at Christmas Tide.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

Bah Humbug. I don't know which insult is worse, calling me a Grinch or calling Boz a child. So, I'm suspending BillRyan for 30 days.
.
.
Only kidding. For now.

We really shouldn't hijack this thread, but on the other hand, we are keeping it's ratings in the recent threads list, thus doing him a favour. Similar applies in other threads.

Hmmmmm.
I'll say, let's not hijack this thread further even at the cost that it does sink in the ratings.
