I posted about it several months ago. Apparently it is out of biz, not supported. Website shows nothing. Ok, that is established.

But I don't think I got a definitive answer to what happened. Did he issue a statement upon giving up? Is he, in fact, alive? Or not? I don't think THAT was ever answered. Does anyone know him and can say that he is actually alive?

Thank you, Axel, but for the time my copy is working just fine. I'm afraid of what will happen when I lose the hard drive or something happens to it. And, I'm just curious as to what happened with this very fine product. Why would he quit? Who was he and did something happen to him?

Also, wouldn't a copy just end up locked?

Actually I was thinking of Frugal VP(it always starts out with a Wolf advertisement when you open it). I don't even remember what the difference is. I was able to send Frugal via email without a problem, but it was a free DL to begin with.

Thanks, Axel, you're the only help I've had on this. I guess I could write to Jean Scott and see what she knows. It couldn't hurt. I'll wait until after the holidays. If I learn anything, I'll pass it along.

best wishes in the New Year to you.

Sorry. I should have just labeled it "Wolf Software Question", or something complicated like that. I'm not perfect. Hard to believe.

Happy NY, Nickel.

bob,

I think the Wolf Poker software is equal to any I have tried. Want to practice against aggressive players, or passive players? Want to practice against loose players, or tight players? No problem. You can select from Wolf Poker's many make-believe players, each with a different poker personality.

IIRC, Wolf software broke following the release of Windows 7. I think I read somewhere (perhaps in an earlier WoV post) that Wolf did something that depended on low-level internals in Windows software... something no longer available in Windows 7. Wolf had no easy way to re-engineer its software to work, and thus its demise.

I use Linux as the operating system on my computer. WINE (stands for "Wine is Not an Emulation") software allows Linux computers to run many, MANY software games that run on Windows. As long as you have the software media, Wolf Poker works great.

Also, Linux is free. Plus, you can install it as a dual-boot on your Windows computer, OK? So, you can have your Windows and your Wolf poker. Oh, yeah. You can also take Ubuntu Linux on a "test drive" because it allows you to do a temporary install into memory (with no change to your Windows software). But, you can decide for yourself.

Thank you, and that's interesting. But I was asking about Video Poker. I too use Ubuntu, and WINE. I'm using Mint distribution and have been for several years now and love linux. Thank you very much for the post.

I did a half-assed search for Jim Wolf and James Wolf Software. There is little information about him, it's as if he dropped off the face of the earth. Jean Scott basically said, he is no longer involved with the Fugal software. I'm not sure if that included Wolf as well. All links lead to a dead end.

There's a thread on Videopoker.com where a few people say they knew/know him(Frankie Kneeland) but that was a long while ago. You might want to start there.

I got interested in VP last year and downloaded the free version and looked at the main site. I needed some time to check it out. After a while, I liked Wolf VP and wanted to pay for upgrade, by then the link was dead. Is it possible to get the full upgraded version? Thanks!
