Joker Poker progressive

Depends on the rest of the paytable. If the progressive is on the 5 of a kind, which is sometimes called "AC Joker Poker" since I think the variant first gained popularity in Atlantic City, that game is a rough ride. In this version of the game, Royals are worth little though usually, unless the progressive is tacked to the royal.
If the paytable looks like this before the progressive at max bet (most common paytable):
RF/5K/WildRoyal/SF/4K/FH/FL/Str8/3K/2P
500/4000/500/500/80/40/25/20/10/5 = 97.19%
When the meter gets to be $5541 for 5 of a kind, then the game is 100.00% with optimal strategy.
Problem is, the optimal strategy for this game is a real pain. Even the basic strategy is terrible.

This game I really don't. I was "cheating" a lot on my phone when I found this game with a $2100+ progressive Royal on a quarter bartop in St. Louis. I made quad 9s holding Joker+9. Unfortunately, that was the best I could do. Looking back, maybe I should have played 6/5 Super Aces (best non-wild game) to save heartache. But that's about 0.8% lower payout. :(

At Tropicana, they have an 8:5 machine. Considering that I only know JoB and the JP progressive seems to hit all the time, it's gross. But that's good info:)

The progressive is on the 5 of a kind though? If that's the case, then it should it more often. 5 of a kind is four times easier to make than the natural royal.

In your state maybe. But Hollywood STL has Joker Poker STP and Ultimate X, but they are lowest paytables both games will allow, 95.46% before gimmick bets. River City offers 18/7 Kings w/STP, 99.21% w/STP, but it's a whopping $30 per hand on a Five Star machine. You can't have STP or Ult X in WV because IGT didn't allow either of the games to have <95% returns for any game.

I think BS is easy, but then, Joker Poker is my primary game to play on points multiplier days switching to 9/5 JoB if I'm really running like crap and getting thoroughly annoyed. Speaking in terms of sessions, I think I just like Joker Poker better because my experience has been, in 800 hand sessions ($1,000) coin-in, I have more where I finish ahead than JoB. The flipside of that, obviously, is the occasional complete and total @$$-whipping I take for an 80-85% return.

I'm also referring to The Meadows casino in PA. WV actually has games over 95%, again, I think they get away with that because of that screwy auto-hold feature I've mentioned before. Wheeling Island, for example, has 9/5 JoB and 98.4425% JP (Kings).
I think there are actually a few 98%+ games on the bartops at Wheeling Island, as well, but you have to bet $5 on either quarters or dollars or you're short-coining the Royal. I'll take a look at the paytables, again, though, I could be wrong...I obviously never play the bartops.
