I received an invitation for a free $100K Black Jack tournament.

There will be 49 semi-finalists. The winners at each table (7?) will advance to the final table.

The players who come in 2nd at each of the (7?) tables will receive a $500 Match Play Coupon.

I wouldn't consider the $500 Match Play coupon a prize. In order to use the coupon you have to use $500 of your money. That's why it's called Match Play. It is a one shot deal. You will either win $1000 or lose $500.

Fat- the coupon is worth somewhere around $240 depending on what game you play. If it was sellable i would guess you could get at least $225 for it. Whether you personally have the gumption to make a $500 bet is another question. If you are allowed to bet it on the pass line and simultaneously bet 750 on the don't pass line, then you can make $250 35 out of 36 times. You will lose $500 1 out of 36. Seems worth it to me.

Regarding your match play coupon of $500.

I've had some like that as well. What some casinos will do is allow you to break that down into a series of smaller coupons that total the same amount. Try asking at the cashier window or a pitboss.

While I believe you COULD use the match play for less than face value, what's the point?

That seems awfully irrational of them. But then again, who said casino management was rational?

Are you sure about that prize? Maybe it's a typo. Maybe its supposed to be a $50 match play.

Or maybe it's 20 $25 match plays.

Casinos will frequently hand out match play coupons that large, and sometimes much larger.

Breaking down the coupon into a series of smaller coupons reduces the chance that you will lose a larger amount of money trying to win with the coupon.

Some casinos will break the coupons down, some won't.

With collusion you could pull off a hedge for $250, if you don't catch the attention of the pit boss. That's what I would do.

Now it all makes sense.

Which is easy enough to hedge with, say, $17 on boxcars.

Why would anyone consider not using the coupon?

Hmmm....

Ordinarily, there's the "Thou shalt not hedge" command. I think this may be an exception. But make it $24, not $17 on the 12. (What's an extra seven bucks between friends?)

$500 + 500mp Pass, $750 Don't Pass, $24 boxcars.

Net win of $226, $226 or $220.

Yeah, I say if they let you do it, DO IT!

If you don't want to risk that much money using the five hundred dollar coupon, arrange with the casino to film the event ... you will have home movies to last for a decade.

Here's what I would do: Play the $500 match bet with the required $500 in actual cash chips on the Player bet on a Baccarat table. At the same time, place a $1,000 bet on the Banker. Bet it until it's resolved.

Oh yeah. Pray for the Banker bet to win.

Get that Coupon! I would try to use it in the most favorable situation in the casino. The casino I'm using right now let me use a match play on a 2-1 bet. I lost. They did say that if it wins, they would only pay me even money. I don't see the problem with a casino allowing such a coupon to be played on props that pay more than even money if they don't have to pay the true odds.

Anyway, get that coupon!
