I’m not sure how people on this board make regular trips to the casino. I can probably go and enjoy it about once every 8-12 weeks.

You know it’s -ev, and it’s just a visual representation of math/probabilities.

Now, for those who can make it +ev, I see it making a little more sense. If you can play for an hour and make it enough to pay for your dinner, cool. But video poker gets extremely boring after a while.

I just think there needs to be some mental stimulation to make it worthwhile.

In the Pet Peeves thread, I listed a
bunch of things that irritate me
about casinos. I forgot mind numbingly
boring.

I find playing games to be mentally stimulating... That's what gambling is...

Baccarat is mentally stimulating? Craps? Candy land?

Yes?

I own Candy Land and played it a couple months ago. With another adult. I think we might have been drinking at the time, though. But then again I'm always drinking in a casino, too.

I agree in general that casino gambling is boring. If you want to make it more exciting it is very easy. Bet stakes much higher than you are comfortable with. Put your mortgage on the line, the food for your family, and all other bills that you have due. That makes it more more exciting.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

I think my views are the exact opposite of TigerWu's. I could never spend as much time in the casino as I do if it took any thought at all. But it's kind of nice to not have to think about anything at all while waiting for free games to hit, waiting for a must hit, etc.

Drinking does make it more tolerable. But
I'm always there around noon, a little too
early for a cocktail.

You can make a lot of things exciting if you do them while skydiving.

at my local casino, I play live poker for entertainment.
and being slightly above break even is a plus. ie: affording dinner plus a few $ in my pocket.
while im there, I scout Ult X whenever I take a bathroom break.
I like entertainment that pays me.

when I goto Atlantic City, I view it as a near free vacation trip.
free room, free food/alcohol. i'll grind VP to get future offers. too much competition for Ult X so I don't even bother.
Craps is paradise (Pair of dice). Lets hear it for the SpeedCount Mathletes :)

Seems to provide about the same amount of stimulation as scrolling through my phone. There are a lot of people who can do that for endless hours all day, every day

I rarely go to a casino unless I'm there to eat or see a show. As I walk through, I'm constantly struck at how zombie-like the slot player are.

And that may be the attraction--just zone out in front of a ding-ding.

I've never played craps, but it always sounds like they are having fun. It's the loudest game in the room.

I think even those who find there to be a measure of boredom in their casino gambling will find that the boredom level sure varies with whether they are winning or losing.

It probably varies as well with the activities of their companions, the background music, the background "buzz".

Food... sure. Particularly free food? Never boring to me.... unfortunately.
