I agree, the majority of craps players are the absolute worst. I have experience so many interesting scenarios over the years that I feel it would be fun to talk about some of them . In this thread I will not talk about how to win , which I do, but I will talk about some crazy experiences with many idiots and bad energy players on the craps table. Many stories are comical however they are very sad.

This morning I rolled into a casino and walk up to the craps table. There were only two people on the table which is beautiful. I did not cash in in the middle of the role as I waited with proper etiquette until the guy made or missed his point. He was cursing and screaming with every role as he kept switching his bets back and forth and kept missing the numbers he was betting. I could not have scripted it. He literally played the roll the worst you could play a role. The point was four . He had the don't pass and placed the five and eight. He proceeded to roll the six and then the nine. Then he moved his 5 to the 9 and 8 to the 6. The next three roles were 8, 8, n 5. He was cursing and saying all kinds of crazy shit and I just had to laugh out loud.

He gave me a dirty look and asked me if I was just going to stand there. I told him that I never jump in the middle of a roll and he should appreciate it. I then told him that I have a feeling he is going to make the point because his energy sucks. The next roll was a 4 .. He made the point and lost his don't pass bet. LMAO

As you guys may know. I never draw first blood, but when someone starts with me I can be fierce and give it back to them 20 fold. He started cursing more and I told him that he's barking up the wrong tree and he is the worst craps player I've ever seen. All of the dealers and Pit Bosses were laughing and the guy stormed off.

what IS a 'role'?

"proper etiquette' imo
is when the dice are in the middle of the table. I have had dealers and boxmen tell me that personally.

never wait to buy in

The worst patrons in a casino. Or anywhere.

I’ve never had problems with strangers in public anywhere other than a craps table.

So some guy was having a bad roll and a poor attitude and you took it upon yourself to start something (by laughing at him) then escalate it further when he reacts to your initial dig? Also glad to know it's the "worst he could have played it" when all the EV's were the same and the rolls were random. Hind Sight shouldn't tell you if you played right or wrong... Sounds like you have some karma comin your way?

p.s. I do agree that in general craps players really are the worse (at being polite to other gamblers).
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

When saying that craps players are the worst... This would be a colloquialism.

A 'ROLE' is a speech recognition typo on my phone. Sorry you did not figure that out.

You misread my post... I was minding my business and did not say anything until he made the remark to me about if I was going to just stand there. So no, I did not initiate.

And yes, he could not have played that roll any worse. If you understand craps and have seen the game you would know. Regardless of the randomness and EVof every roll.

Yes I do have karma coming my way. I still have a lifetime of repentance from my 20s!

do not be sorry.

again
proper etiquette
as you state as FACT, is false, in other words, I say you are 100% wrong
(you are stating just your opinion and nothing more BUT you fail to say it is your opinion)

buy-in when the dice are in the center of the table
that simple
the dealer will tell you what is up and if you have to wait

NEVER wait til the point is won or lost

that is such poor unsolicited advice, imo

I see you have lots of that kind of advice in past threads and posts too
well, thank you for sharing

sorry, you do not get it

Even when you are quiet people can start with you.

I was playing DP once, know I should never pick it up but I had a feeling.

Guy who is showing his girl how to play tells me I cannot pick it up.

"Yes I can."
"No, you can't."
"Yes, I can."

Guy asks the dealer, who tells him I can. Guy emasculated himself in front of his girlfriend. I just go back to betting.

Guy on my other side asks what a DP bet is, I politely tell him.

The last time I played I subscribed to the etiquette about waiting for a come out roll to buy in. I was still standing there some ten rolls later at a crowded table and the dealer finally asked me, "Did you want to play?" I said that I was waiting for a come out roll, but the dealer strongly suggested I didn't have to wait.

So, I'm rethinking my policy on that. What do the die hard craps players say?

The proper etiquette is determined by the casino and most crews are taught that a casinos job is to take a players money rather than have him stand there gawking with his money in his pocket instead of being at risk.

So wait until the stickman has control of the dice and announce to your dealer your intentions. I announce the amount and say 'check change'. The Box and the Floor have jobs to do and they will do them, if the Stick has to hold the dice for a while so be it.

What may or may not have been proper etiquette decades ago is not relevant.

Most crews will speak to a man who swears and if a female is actually present at the table they may make it clear that their comment is not only his first warning but it is also his last warning even if that female is his own girl friend.

Some utterances are exclamations addressed to the dice or to Lady Luck, utterances addressed to crew, players or the table in general are less likely to be tolerated, even if the entire table consists of men from New Jersey who have played craps since infancy.

That's my experience.

I tend to hesitate if it's mid roll and the crew seems busy, but one of them almost always makes eye contact and indicates they can take the money and make change right away.

I still wait until the next come out roll to actually bet, of course.

You can buy in anytime you like, however the craps diehards would rather people wait until prior to come out roll before they throw cash on the table and buy in. The reason is that there is a belief that buying in in the middle of a roll disrupt the flow.

If the table is really slow and there is not much of a flow going then I don't particularly mind since I am in and out so quickly anyway. But if I am staying on a table for whatever reason and I have a nice roll going and quick movements of the dice and the Box numbers are fluid , then I do not like if someone who cashes in the middle of my roll.

For the blackjack players here, do you like it when someone jumps into your table Mishu when you are on a streak? Presuming of course you are on a no mid shoe entry which answers the previous question anyway.

As long as I can remember, the proper way to buy- in has always been "wait til the dice are in the center of the table"

It was in ALL of my Craps procedure books
(I dealt in Reno but was taught by a man who was taught by an old timer from Philly)
and I had to remind players of that unwritten rule many times (after Box chewed me out on it)

the Dealer will, after finishing dealing the game, will start to make the change
unless Box started it first.
Many tables now have No Box, so be it

I say to place your $$$ on the table when you SEE the dice are in the center
and await further instructions.
That IS totally RUDE when a player walks up, does not see where the dice are at, places their hand or hands in the table area with their cash, one or both of the dice hit them, or they just pissed off the shooter and
no one cares anymore. too much craps at Craps tables these days.

Too many Craps players are 'know-it-alls' and force their beliefs on others
happens all too often

Btw, I would love if some of the gamemakers would create a no mid-roll entry craps table.. with no hop or prop bets either.

Again, I did not say a word and I observed minding my business. I did laugh after seeing his Miss moves and the numbers kept coming up that he moved off of. But my laugh could have been for any reason in his mind, I did not direct it towards him, I did not look at him,... The last Could Have Been Me watching so many numbers and me not being on the roll, the last could have been a laugh with the dealers who were smirking at me, etc.

Now when he directed his comment toward me and asked me if I was just going to stand there all day, now Houston we have a problem.

Besides, he knew he was an idiot.. He said it about 10 times during his roll.

I understand when people are upset from losing and antagonizing someone in that mind-set will only exacerbate a situation so I am cognizant of the fact at all times. I don't like to see people lose, but I certainly don't like negative people even more.

I buy in whenever. This ‘ettiquette’ is BS. You toss your money in, the box moves it out of the way, counts it and the game is not interrupted. Players making center bets slow the game down much more than a buy in. Much more.

Throwing your money across someones line of sight while they are tossing dice, is the equivalent in rudeness to yelling at Tiger Woods when he is trying to make his final putt.

It's rude. Do it or don't, like it or not, it's rude. Some people get off on being rude.

As a player I usually wait, but I also fold my buy-in money in thirds, put it between my index and middle finger, then make a soft fist. Similar to what you do at a busy bar. Idea being you are not being a jerk throwing money in, but you show the base dealer you are ready when he is. Usually he will see it and give you a que to buy in or show that he knows you are waiting and will get you when the time is right. Do it right and you look a manly guy who knows what he is doing.

As a party dealer I usually make people wait. Remembmber, I work a table alone and when I am busy I am way busy, breaking the action is a real pain there. But I will still break action if things are right to do so.

I agree with you about this, Sally. I have met a few rude people at craps tables, and I have to say I think WMW's self-report OP would place him among them, but the real jerks and bullies play blackjack. Jamming the dealer, yelling at other players, snotty and sullen, bossing the table. ...ugh.

Really, WMW, are you one of those smug jerks who grinds it into people's faces when the dice aren't cooperating? Sorry to hear it.

Not at all. I'm actually very friendly and everyone loves me! I've actually become good friends with many many dealers, post, Pit Boss and Executives over the years.

That being said, if someone ever makes a rude comment to me or gets in my face while throwing a first blow, I pack a strong punch and don't take any smack.

This just reminded me of a great joke. Guy is playing craps and his wife wants $100 to go play slots. He gives her $100. Half hour later she is back and lost the $100. Asks for another $100 and gets it. Half hour later.....same story. Gambler says he cannot keep giving her $100 to lose. She says you are down $6000 playing craps. Gambler says yes....but I know what I am doing.!

That's pretty much my approach too, although I only fold the cash once. If however the dealer hasn't asked for my cash by the next come out roll, I'll toss it down on the table then.
My goal of being well informed conflicts with my goal of remaining sane.

It depends on the shooter. Some are very particular about rhythm and other table conditions. Others don’t care if someone’s hands are hanging over the rail. I think about it as it’s the shooter’s turn to enjoy themself, so best to wait for a come out.

I have been at some tables where the box invites cheque change during hot rolls just to disrupt the shooter. I’ve seen refills come in on hot rolls with only $200 in chips, but the covered chip carrier sits on the table for a long time, just to give the shooter an extra obstacle. If the casino buys into these tactics, I don’t want to help them.

For the blackjack players here, do you like it when someone jumps into your table Mishu when you are on a streak? Presuming of course you are on a no mid shoe entry which answers the previous question anyway.

I personally don't mind. I'm not superstitious, but I do realize that other gamblers are. At a BJ table, I always wait until a new shoe to buy in, because I have no idea of the count of the previous shoe and don't want to play if the count is negative. I know that some of the people who often sit next to me might think that's my superstition, that I don't want to enter mid-shoe. (Normally I don't do back counting.)
