There is only one double AVAILABLE for every spin, that doesn't mean the ball will LAND in that double, it will usually fall into a non-double.

I've already thought of a great betting strategy. Bet half the numbers on the wheel, bet the OTHER half on the ring. If I'm thinking about this correctly, then you should always hit at least one, ....... no wait, never mind.. I just thought about it again, you could have NO hits quite frequently, but could get a hit on both the ring and wheel quite frequently as well. Might as well just bet 35 of the numbers on one or the other, pretty much doing the same thing with far less variance.

One every spin, there IS one pocket that is a double pocket. But the ball only finds it once in 38 spins.

I did it with a pair of dice. Have a list 1-6. That's the inner ring. Roll one die. That's the "double pocket" number for this roll. Roll another die, that's where the ball lands on the outer wheel. Bam. Anyone number being the double pocket is 1 in 6. The ball hitting the double pocket is 1 in 6. The ball hitting the number you selected as a double = 1/6 * 1/6 = 1 in 36.

Same as betting on 'any double or 'specific hardway' - it's 1 in 6 you roll a double with a pair of dice, but 1 in 36 you roll snak-eyes.

The ball lands in the double pocket on the roulette wheel one spin in 38. The chance of it being your number 1 in 38 squared. The double number will hit about once an hour (40 spins/hours... sound about right?).

I stand corrected: it was a stupid question ;) I mean, I should have figured it out on my own. It's not even Monday, which is always a handy excuse...

Yeah, that's about right, which is why I said it hits several times a shift.

If every number is covered with $1 on all 38 spins,
and it hits once every 38 spins, thats $1444 invested
and $1200 paid back by the casino. 17% HE.

Actually, it's $1,444 invested, but I'm glad you finally got it.

I hope you now also see that, although there may not be a bet on it when it hits, it should hit several times per shift.

How many pockets would a wheel have to have
on it to be equal to the double wheel bet?

Bob -

Are you asking about an imaginary, gigantic wheel, that has a pocket producing two results similar to Double Action, but without the extra ring of numbers?

That would be a wheel with 1,444 pockets.

And, yeah, some pockets could be sleepers for a LONG time.

But 38 of those pockets represent the Double Action's double result.

So, the odds of hitting any of them would be 38 in 1,444 - or 1 in 38.

The odds of hitting a SPECIFIC double would be 1 in 1,444. THAT could take weeks. But hitting ANY double? Several times per shift.

If its ok with you I will just let my $1 bet ride. Seems that would pay more than $1,200 ?

Yep. If you have the cahones to do that, it'll pay $1,296.

Seems like a good time to pull out my super duper double action martingale system.
1) Wait until one of the double numbers has not been hit for 2000 spins.
2) bet $1 on that number until it hits
3) If it does not hit in 1199 spins, bet $2 on that number....
4) It would be like impossible to meet the table max!

A wheel with 1444 pockets doesn't need anything else,
like double action pockets. Your number will hit once in
every 1444 spins and pay off 1200/1. Which is about
every 3 days.
