Here are our seeds in the Elite Eight: 1,2,2,4,5,8,10,15. That is an average of 5.875!

Not counting this year, the previous average seed in the Eight was 4.625. This is the highest average ever in the Eight. In fact, the average has never been above 5 before and this year it is nearly 6.

This season also sets a new record for the lowest seed to make it to the Eight, at 15. The record was previously 12.

There is only one #1 seed left. This has happened three times before in tournament history. The average 1 seeds left at this point was 2.78 before this season.

Here is a nice updated bracket.

After a great tournament, the games this weekend were disappointing. I knew St Peters didn't have a chance against NC but was hoping they might be competitive for a half or so.
I'm really looking forward to Duke - NC next weekend.

Here's some Vegas-related March Madness news: South Point and Rampart (also Virgin River and Casablanca in Mesquite) are offering -105 point spread lines on all of the remaining games in the tournament
link to original post

The lines in line with other books or are the making you pay the vig in a half a point?
link to original post

I assume you mean, are the point spreads a point apart (i.e. for what would normally be a 4-point spread, either you give 4 1/2 or take 3 1/2)?

I'm pretty sure it's the same spread both ways. It's also not exactly new, from what I have been able to dig up on the web, although it is now limited to single bets, whereas I did find a reference from 2014 that said it applied to parlays back then.
link to original post

I guess I didn't word it well. I was meaning if the spread is -4 at one of these books you can bet it at -105, does another book potentially have it at -3.5 for -110. Or if you can get +4 at -105, does another book have +4.5 at -110? So basically what you are saving in traditional "vig" is offset by a line .5 a point worse than most other books.

I hope that's worded better.

It does happen. BetRivers frequently will have a team at, say
+4 but -113, while the other books are +4.5 and -110. I’m going to make a new thread to see if I can entice the Wiz into analyzing stuff like this.

In the final two we have a 1 and an 8 seed, for an average of 4.5. An 8 is the highest seed in the final game since 2014, which also had an 8. An 8 seed has made the final game four times, but never above an 8.

Prior to this season, the average in the final game was 2.29. That 8 seed certainly bumped up the average seed in the Championship Game.

If NC wins, they will tie as the lowest seed to ever win. The other time was the first year, in 1985.

Former UNLV coach Rollie Masimino won that game on my birthday April 1st over Georgetown in Kentucky. It was a very good game and a two point win for Villanova.

What fool decided to start the NCAA Championship game at 9:20PM on a Monday night?

On a similar note, I see tickets can be had for $20-$35 now that Coach K and his boys are not in it.

When was the last time it wasn't scheduled for a Monday night? As for why it's a 9:20 Eastern start, my best guess is, somebody is under the impression that if it started earlier, a considerable number of people who live out west would miss the start.

Is it better for half of the country to miss the end of the game or the beginning? I can't think of a championship game in any sport that started this late on a weeknight.

While it is true most championship games don't start this late, the World Series ALWAYS lasts longer into the night on the East Coast than this one will.

I am just hoping to make it until halftime. I don't remember the last time I was up until 11pm. Probably many years.

I am typically entering bed between 7:30pm and 8pm. I do turn on the television and watch for a while before I fall asleep.

We all know a #1 seed won.

A 1 seed has won the last five times and a total of 24 out of the 37 tournaments. The average seed to win is 1.92.

That was quite a shock to learn for us East Coasters who went to bed at halftime!

This is what I call a bad beat.

Take away a bunch of those zeros and I experienced the same bad beat. I had a bunch of +EV bets and did them individually. To make a long story short most of them involved UNC money line or KU -4. I did have some UNC + 4.5, so I win big if UNC wins outright. Win big if KU wins by 4. Win a little if KU wins by 5 or more. Lose big if KU wins by less than 4….. (big being relative to how much I bet…).

At least we had our choice of channels to watch the championship game - TBS, TNT, and TruTV all had it on.

The strange thing is, they all had an identical broadcast. Reportedly, they were going to do some form of "Megacast" similar to how ESPN handles the CFP football championship, but decided against it for some reason.

I wish one of those channels would have aired it earlier.
