Speaking of “middles”, when I grew up it was called a “Jake.” Or at least my dad called it that. He’d say he jaked the game, meaning he bet the dog at +4 and the favorite at -2.5. Anyone else ever hear the term “jake”? I never found anyone really call it that anymore.

I hope to God not! Last year I took crap for accepting Picks after the deadline, I certainly hope I'm not going to get it for rejecting picks after the deadline, too!

That's why I included in the Rules that there would be no exceptions whatsoever to the deadline, even though this is the second or third time this season I've had to reject picks and I always feel bad doing it. (On at least one other occasion, the individual whose Picks were rejected had default Picks, so those were used for that reason.)

I think the biggest rule suggestion that was made this year was to get rid of Default Picks, so I'm going to start a new thread immediately after this regular season game ends and put that to an OPEN vote amongst people who played this year. In other words, all voting has to be done in thread.

I will probably vote to get rid of Default Picks because they're a pretty big pain in my ass. Also, I'll be able to go back to playing properly next year because I won't know what anyone's Picks are going to be ahead of time.

EDIT TO ADD: There's no counter-strategic reason for the deadline to be what it is, by the way. The ONLY reason that the deadline is 10:00a.m. EST is because it gives me a three-hour window with which to post up all the picks before the games start. That still doesn't always happen, but if it wasn't something that I at least try to do, then the deadline would just be 12:59 EST.

I presume that the flood of Bears+3 picks by people who picked late was due to late-breaking news that Gronkowski would not play for Pats. The line at 5 Dimes on Pats dropped to pk - 120.

FWIW, picks being public by kickoff is a deal point for me. Only fun if I know what to root for/against, plus comfort that there is integrity in the game. (No offense on the last point, but I don’t know any of you from KentryAdam.)

I agree with you 100% on all of those points, though maybe not as emphatically.

Keep in mind that screenshots would prove that picks were sent when both myself and the player in question (if any) are saying that they were sent, so ultimately, I don't think that there's any real argument that everyone's Picks being posted late should disqualify the entire week, or anything. Beyond that, there is something of a human element to the thing.

Anyway, if a player's set of Picks were ever challenged, they are provable. I keep all game-related PM's for a few weeks after the conclusion of the season, at a minimum.

That's why I kind of understand why you advocated for CBS Sports as a hosting place. The reason why I didn't like that is that I put together the game to benefit WoV Forum though, not CBS Sports, so if the human element ends up at play a little bit, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Although, another good rule suggestion for next year is maybe having to PM the Picks to two different people? It only takes five seconds to send a forward once you get used to doing it, I should know!
