I would like to request the WIZARD nicely to make a page about NHL sports betting, thank you 8)

I love to bet on NHL hockey games, but I can not find a page that specialize in discussing about NHL hockey betting

I wonder about how to pick bets professionally and analyze NHL stats and etc. and odds of winning

Which bet will be more profitable in the long run??? Moneylines OR Pucklines?

Advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you 8)

There's already a section for sports betting (which is where we're at). Just post it here.

All you have to do is make a thread called NHL sports betting, Soccer sports betting, Baseball sports betting.

they all fall under the general heading ....SPORTS BETTING

As popular as the NFL is......If someone wants to discuss a betting aspect of the NHL...all they do is start a thread.

There was a hockry betting thread started last week....not much action

I enjoy hockey and bet it often. In fact I find betting hockey to be more predictable than the college and pro basketball.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I was requesting a sports betting page written from the WIZARD not a post within the forums but a whole page in the wizardofodds.com/games/sports-betting/ webpage, there is a page about NBA NFL and MLB but no page for NHL, thanks

I'd like to do that but need some hockey data to sink my teeth into. Anybody know a good source?

First you need to watch Slapshot. Then, every episode of Great White North. Only then can you truly understand hockey.

Does it have money lines and totals? I would need that and most sources of sports data don't contain information relating to gambling.

I remember arguing with my dad when I was about 10 years old about wrestling. I was ADAMANT that wrestling was real. I wish I could go back into time and be a fly on the wall for that discussion.

Thanks for all the kind words above. Yup, that is me.

I see I can get the data by going to http://www.oddsshark.com/nhl/game-logs and picking any and all teams and seasons and then copying and pasting the data.

With only three ways to bet hockey (that I know of) I doubt any will be +EV. However, it wouldn't surprise me if betting the unders and underdogs has a smaller disadvantage, as they seem to in every sport. I'm going to be very busy through February but maybe I'll get to this after that.

I absolutely do not handicap. You should ask AxelWolf about Vegas promotions. He is much more up to date on those than I am.

I been wondering for a long time the 3 different bets in NHL, under/over, moneyline and puckline and its house edge for each, based on historical NHL stats and etc., specially the moneyline VS puckline and not quite sure which option will bring better LONG TERM success that would be the option with lower house edge (moneyline VS puckline)

Im quite surprised Mr. Wizard with someone as super intelligent as you I would think you would be a master handicapper! I believe your intelligence would bring you alot of talent to be a master handicapper, I believe that is something you would need to research and practice and I think you would love betting on sports very much yourself while you are enjoying much success!! as I personally believe sport handicapping could be the most positive EV+ bet in the whole casino it does not matter about the -110, if you can win 60% of the time long term, it would beat out any other bets in the casino by a big margin, I have heard many stories that other people can win 60% in the long run and other handicapper website etc., the past half a year I been having some success myself personally. It would be quite awesome, if you would write handicapping strategies into your sport betting pages on the wizardofodds.com pages

Casino promotions are another way to gain large positive EV+ play, for example, there are tons of Video poker and table blackjack that is between 99-100% payback which is a small house edge game, but the DRAWING ENTRIES you earn gives you a chance to pay you cash prices the more ENTRIES you have the higher odds you will get drawn for the cash prices and sometimes I earn a whole bunch of points on my players card and I do get drawn quite often, I have had alot of success with them as well and the table game drawing too!!! the way I look at it is, I expect to nearly break even playing video poker or table blackjack, but when I get draw for cash prices they would be all profit!!!! depending on the casino and which promotion it is it can bring about 100-110% payback because the ENTRIES you earn, tables drawing sometimes use "HOPPER containers and tickets" it is another one of the biggest positive plays you can get from the casinos in the Vegas area! It would be awesome if you would write pages about "Promotions" as well!

thank you for reading my long post, the hope you put some thought to what I have talked about 8)

As best as I can tell, you are the only person providing anything useful about sports betting these days, at least on a public site.
Thanks. Keep it up.

These guys have some easy to obtain data for NHL and all the other major US sports. It is just the basic gambling type info and not detailed box score stats. It is quick to copy/paste into a spreadsheet. It is 5 or so years but some sports like NHL and MLB have a lot of games per year and provide enough data to get started. I don't know the source of their line info.

http://www.sportsbookreviewsonline.com/scoresoddsarchives/scoresoddsarchives.htm

I signed up, 2 years ago, for their monthly email of updates. I'm fairly sure I didn't get any spam or anything bad as a result.

I have no connection with them and don't know anything about them.

I wonder if they have data that tells you, the percentage of the times when teams win they will win by only 1 goal OR 2 or more goals???

There is a story about a crazy hockey gambler who supposedly figured out the secret to betting on hockey right before he died. I forget where I read it...

I think it had something to do with either travel or back to back games.

Anyway, I think taking home underdogs on the money line or favorites on the puck line are my only strategies. I also like unders whenever it's 5.5 with some good defenses.

The little I know about hockey analytics....

Goalie save % plummets if they start both games on the 2nd game of a back to back.

Shots and driving possession are a much better predicator than goals for/against. See CORSI and fenwick for advance stats.

Teams that are outshot by opponents and winning should be faded and vice versa.

Even strength stats are much more important than power play/penalty kill.

Underdog MLs are my favorite hockey bets. Either ones where the home team is the underdog in a coin-flip or where an extremely strong team is the underdog simply because they're away.
