For some reason this reminded me of this movie Bruce Willis and Vince Von played in(Lay the Favorite) it came out in 2012 and I think it was a flop. I bet a lot of people never heard of it. I am in no way touting this movie as being good. I just found it interesting, because it has to do with Vegas and gambling. For all the nostalgic guys who remember the slot carnival game FLIP IT. there is a side story going on that revolves around, Flip It, in the movie. If you watch the movie, make sure you read this https://wizardofodds.com/games/flip-it/

Lay the Favorite
from Wiki, Based on Beth Raymer's memoir of the same title, the film follows a young, free-spirited woman as she journeys through the legal and illegal world of sports gambling.

I read the book Lay the Favorite, and thought it was a good read.

The movie was really bad- nothing like the book.

Yeah, those dudes are complete amateurs. A few sharp bettors can put those guys out of business in short order.

Several years ago, I had a start-up bookie that let me bet using the lines printed in the USA Today. I put him out of business in one month of college basketball.

How can you let a guy owe you $40,000 and say your annual profit is 5 figures ? And write off a debt and then take bets from same guy ? Plus say a game cost you 5 figures ? I wonder if these 2 jerks even exist other than in the writer's imagination ? ? ?

Yeah, who still answers phones these days? Actually, I know a few local books that do, but that's just crazy. Pay per head is the only way to go.

Bob Dancer did a review of the book "Lay The Favorite" in one of his casinogaming.com articles back in Nov. 2010. I tried to dig the article out but the link no longer works. It's supposed to be a true story of some chick that went to work for some Las Vegas bookies. The title of the book comes from a correction one of the bookies gave her on her gambling vernacular. "You 'take' the dog, you 'lay' the favorite."

Bankruptcy long before jail for these guys. Way too small time to get anything more than a slap on the wrist. And they are so lenient with people who owe them money that it will be almost impossible for them to get busted. If anything their customers should be going out of their way to make sure they stay IN business, not ratting them out. I still remember 6 or 7 years ago Flyers asst coach Rick Tochet got caught running a nationwide multi million dollar book.. And somehow avoided jail time. As a matter of fact he was somehow back coaching in the nhl within a year. He was running it with a NJ state trooper..who did do 3 months..but that was due to committing the crime while holding that type of government job (official misconduct). My belief is books get busted for other reasons (assault, weapons, drugs, etc), and they toss the bookmaking charge in as window dressing

Bankruptcy on the other hand, really should be what their paranoia is about. Like Buzzard said, you can't be cutting people deals then taking their action again a month later. And the whole idea of texting lines out to 40 people prior to a game then allowing everyone to bet that line.. Well that's absurd
