Can anyone recommend a spot for a group of guys to watch football near the strip? Do sports books comp drinks to small betters? I'm going to vegas in late October, and we'd love to watch football in a book. We would prefer not to drop 10 bucks a beer though. Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any tips. Also, we're mostly from MN and WI, and plan on watching the GB vs. MN game on Sunday night....Any thoughts on a place to watch just one game?

I have never been there on a football Sunday, but when it comes to strip sportsbooks, I would think you're better off trying to get a bar seat and slowly playing video poker/blackjack for your "free drinks" for as cheap as quarter per hand (and tip). Personally the Venetian is my fave sportsbook for this comped drink move, but I have never went during NFL, but did do this during the NBA playoffs though with no issue. But I assume those seats are locked up very, very early if people are smart. During football season, I have personally struggled to wake up before 10am. :D

Since your game is Sunday night, I'm not sure what's the best move, but you might be able to swipe a bar seat after the late game is over and before the Sun. night game began. Maybe others might have a better idea about that.

Mandalay Bay has one of my favorite books, and the last time I was in Vegas for a game (yes I'm an ultra low roller like yourself), we would just walk out to the penny slots on the floor (about 8 feet away), take a seat at a machine, order a drink, tip the waitress, and walk back into the book. Do it during commercials and you shouldn't miss too much of the action. Obviously the video poker/bj seat at $.25/hand is appealing as well, but if that's not available the casino floor is always a free option.

Realizing you're looking for first hand recommendations and I have none current, I pulled up this website which has reviewed a bunch of them in the areas I think concern you. I only took this on as a good Viking sister, you understand.... Go Vikes! Hope you find it of some use. Actually, I was going to recommend Harrah's because I liked it there, cool semi-quiet dark room to relax and watch games just off the casino. But they've remodeled since I've been there and are pitching it as sort of a high-roller place with not enough seats. I also liked the LVHilton - huge with comfortable stadium seating for 2-300 and several big screens, but they may have remodeled as well; they're now the "LVH" and advertising 25 dollar rooms for the fall on the website. Their drinks weren't out of sight, but it's been several years.

plain talk about Vegas sportsbooks
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Savvy move, imo. Sport books are often stingy on drinks, slot floors are not.

Books give horse players drink cards freely in my experience. Just be polite and put $10 on the chalk and get several drink tickets if you ask nicley say please and thank you. You will get 5 drinks for that bet and might win some money.

Not a bad idea either. The edge is much higher, but they are definitely more friendly toward these bettors. As long as the edge is < beer cost, that's a win in OP's spot I am thinking. It would be in my mind...haha

To give you an idea of my stinginess when it comes to drinks (why the hell would I pay $6-10 for a drink when i can get the same one for a $1 tip?), we went with our group to dinner at Margaritaville on the strip during my last visit. There was about a 30 minute wait for a table when we got there, so the people I was with headed to the bar to order a drink. Landshark was $6 a bottle, so I excused myself to go to the bathroom, walked over to the margaritaville casino, and got two beers from the waitress for $1 each. I took both of them back into the restaurant and they were none the wiser.

To me, that $2 I spent on beer was $10 saved that I could make a few pass line bets with later in the casino. You are likely going to lose enough money while in vegas, might as well give yourself a chance to win some back rather than use it on ridiculously overpriced drinks.

As of last football season LVH gives free drinks to anyone with a ticket. If you go to Station you will get 2 drink tickets for every $50 ticket (you have to rebet for additional tickets).

many sports books I have used have gone the "drink coupon" route. Where based on the size of your bets they give you a proportionate amount of drink tickets that you can give to the waitress. I gess they want to avoid people betting 20 bucks and sitting there for 2 games(7 hours) getting free drinks.(can you blame them)

I never take them because I do other gambling in the casino, mostly poker, or make other sports bets later in the day, so why would I impair myself even slightly and give the casino the added advantage.

Hey, I thought I was the only one who knew to do that. Sometimes it's like $10 horse for a drink ticket and $300 sports. So you bet $10 on a huge favorite to show and not only do you get your free drink, you get your tip money when it comes in.

Legasse Stadium (palazzo/Venetian) is a good choice. First rate fun for a group of guys. Another good choice is Ceasars. Depending on just how low roller you're talking about, give some thought to pooling your bets. Be nice to the teller and you'll have no problem. Great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Your final choice should depend totally on size. Size of bet, size of TV, size of cleavage. Enjoy.

along the same lines, if you eat at fast food places, and play your cards right you can take home enough straws, and salt so that you never have to buy them at the supermarket.

I wouldn't recommend Legasse stadium for someone to be cheap. Last year I went during the 1st round of the NBA playoffs at like 1 pm and they had a manditory $50 per table rule going on. I believe the NFL games are a higher minimum. Also that place has gone way down hill in service which was always bad, the food quality, and the decor is dirty and run down.

why dont people just go where they can enjoy themselves, where they feel the most comfortable, and buy their own drinks if they have to.

You buy a vegas entertainment ticket for 200 dollars and they are not going to give you free drinks, you buy a ticket to the san fran / greenbay game next week, and the 49ers arent giving you free drinks.

So a casino provides free comfortable chairs, tables, and state of the art flat screens,...so you bet 100 dollars and sit for 3-6 hours of entertainment in nice air conditioned surroundings....and it really matters if you buy your own drinks?

99 percent of the sports bettors are not hanging out at the casino watching the game, using the casinos facilities. They are not getting free anything.
So are the people who decide to hangout at the casino, use their facilities, and bet a small amount and spend the day there as entertainment realy entitled to free drinks or food or lodgeing? Arent they already getting alot of entertainment bang for their buck for free. Something 99 percent of the rest of the sports bettors arent getting at all. Bettors who are spening a hell of a lot more money on their tickets/

If you go to a chinese resteraunt and do take out time and time again. But then one day you decide to eat there and use their tables, chairs, air conditioning, silverware, dishes..,,,and you proclaim since you will be eating there you expect free drinks.

well most sports bets are "take out".. and the people who stay in..and use the facilities really shouldnt expect any more than the people sitting at home with their tickets.

I disagree. All we want to do is get the most bang for our buck. If there were two restaurants of equal food value and one offered free drinks which would you choose? The casinos set the standard first, not the sports bettors...and I'd rather lose my bit of money with a little buzz.

Is downtown worth looking into for football? Thanks everyone.

from the casinos perspective, the more people they can give drinks the better off they are. Alcohol is a depressant, and depresses the area of the brain the controls discipline and acting rationally and responsibly. And people who are undisciplined and irresponsible are the fish that the casino love to reel in.

The casino loves alcohol soaked people who were stting there for the first game , reach into their pockets to make money back from the earlier loss with the second game.

Once you have alcohol in your system, its much easier to go to the ATM ......a few times., its mucgh easier to let your winnings ride on just one more game, its much easier to try ti make up your losses with a 4 team parlay. It all looks so good when under the influence.

So from the casinos perspective, just like with the table games.....the more alcohol the better.

And with sports bettors...they can sit and guzzle it down as if they are in their living room...getting caught up in the social part of drinking.

Its all good.........................for the casinos

I Don't suggest betting only .25 cents a hand, most bars require 4 coins on keno and $1.25 on Video Poker along with a $20 buy-in. DON'T go to the Wynn they don't comp players at the bar. If you go to a Casino bar the best way is to wait for the bartender to come over, Take a $100 bill, put the bill in the machine as you order a drink. Tip him a few bucks ($3-$5) right away, then play 5 coins slow every time he walks by. then you can usually drink all day With little risk. you can do it with a 20 dollar bill as well but they may comp less drinks. You can cash out when hes not looking and then insert a $20 each time you order.

Best Value would be a local bar. Some bars give free food and drinks with a $20 buy in (you can do the same as above, if so don't don't sign up for slot club ). Some bars do $20 for $20 in free play inducing free drinks. They usually hire young, hot, Busty energetic bartenders and waitresses who like football. BJ's is just off the strip on Tropicana (No car needed). It's a nice place with leather furniture, billiards room, cigar lounge. they hire a very hot young staff usually 4-6 girls on a busy day, they used to dress in sexy langery type outfits. They celibate Football usually with some small giveaway and a food and drink special if you don't want to gamble.

Because if you notice the title of this thread, it's "low roller sports book/football viewing location". Some of us offered our opinions on the best places to both have a cheap drink and watch the game. Some aren't interested in betting $200 on a football game, so by your logic they shouldn't be entitled to watch the game in a sportsbook? If that were the case, places would be closing off entrances and charging cover charges to keep out those unclean peasants who can't afford to wager with the big boys. Why waste money on drinks when you can get one cheaper mere feet away?

This is a gambling website with the intention of making "+EV" plays and some may consider a $1 drink from a waitress over a $7 drink at a bar "+EV". Heck, after 2 drinks worth of savings, they can march over to that window with their extra $12 in their pocket and place a wager on the upcoming game. Same drinks, same venue, but now you have action and a chance to win some money. That's what I love about vegas more than anywhere else is the opportunity to drink and gamble and enjoy yourself however you please. If you want to sit in that seat and pay a premium for those drinks, be my guest. That's just very obviously not what the OP was looking to do, hence the starting of this thread.

"That's what I love about vegas more than anywhere else is the opportunity to drink and gamble and enjoy yourself however you please."

It seems there are people that love to drink and get buzzed,

I realize for instance the people that pay 200 dollars a ticket and go to a football game, and drink througout the game, like to drink more than they like the team or the game. Because drinking makes your awareness fuzzy, your perception of reality fuzzy, it dulls the brain, reduced memory and mental acuity. So if someone really liked the team or the game they wouldnt want to miss a play. They would want to fully enjoy all aspects of the game. They wouldnt want to have their brains compromised and their perception of reality reduced. They wouldnt want to dull their brains in the name of "getting a buzz". If "getting a buzz" is the main goal, and the game is secondary, the game is just the place where the "buzz" is attained. I admit there are people who just like to drink and get buzzed, and the game and the team is secondary. They drink under the false pretense that they are there to watch the game. In fact the reality is they are there to drink, and the game just happens to be on.
Meanwhile, a bunch of buzzed, alcohol influenced game watchers are the fish that the casinos love to real in. A buzzed video poker player with 100 dollars in a machine, a buzzed sports bettor with an atm card in their pocket....its all good for the casino. They love people who voluntarily compromise their sense of discipline.

A buzzed sports bettor is not that great for the casino...

"Eh, I'm drunk, why not put $100 on a game?" That gives the casino about $5 on average. The casino has definitely lost money on giving me free drinks, but it's one of the things that draws me to Vegas in the first place, so everyone gets what they want.

No matter where you bet always ask for a drink ticket. All they can say is no. It might be a little embarrassing to be at the Wynn, bet $50, and ask for a ticket and get told you need to bet $300, but at least you tried. Honestly, I would just go to Walgreens or CVS and buy the booze you want and bring it to the book.

buzzed and drunk people do impulsively stupid things. On the way out putting their last 40 dollars on the double zero in roulette wheel, playing a 100 dollar hand of BJ before leaving, buying a parlay ticket, going for the kill....or betting the next game flat...taking the dog at moneyline in order to win more. Those are the decisions of a mentally compromised person....and people who love to drink around gambling opportunities.....are the casinos best friend.

Do non drinking people make stupid decisions as well? sure....But alcohol will increase the chances of an impulsive moronic deciosn.

Are there people who just like to drink and help forget about their lives for a day in a public venue, leave their credit cards and money at home...sure. But on balance the casinos will accept that small percentage of people and make a killing on the rest.

over 90 percent of thecasino floor is dedicated to people who have a hundred dollars or less to spend. They ARE THE CASINOS BEST FRIEND.....and one by one the casino will give them watered down booze in order to extract that 100 dollar bill. The whales of the casino lose millions, and win millions depending on their luck. But the drunken baffoons always lose. And the casinos know this all too well.

AxelWolf, thanks for the tip on the bar on trip, I'll look into it.

Talking to my buddy yesterday, and we have never been downtown. Aren't There a bunch of new bars DT? Would it be a good call to place our bets Saturday night and go DT to watch games? We watched at bill's the last time in Vegas, and loved having the wall of TVs with all the games (we are fantasy football people as well.)

Thanks again to all offering tips.

This is exactly the point. Not everyone wants to spend $10 on a drink. For me, I dont mind losing $500 but not a penny on food at the casino.

I dont mind going to a resteraunt and spending 200 dollars on a meal, but I insist that they give me my alcohol for free. I cant see spending that much for a meal and paying 10 dollars for a drink. Thats silly.
I dont mind spediing 500 dollars on a cirque ticket, but I do feel the casino is obligated to give me free alcohol.
And I spend 2k every weekend on sports tickets, and the least William hill sports book can do is shine my shoes, and wash and wax my car...but when I buy my 2k of tickets, I dont feel the sports book is obligated to give me a chair, a table and a hi def flat screet tv to view, let alone free alcohol. But the car wash and wax and shoe shine is a must.

although when I am in a casino during some sports event, the folks in the sports book, agonizing over each play, moaning, cheering, screaming, drinking....are entertainment for me in itself,

I dont watch the sports events, but get a kick out of the show the spectators put on.

during breaks from poker, nothing beats viewing the sportsbook patrons

Can anyone recommend a spot for a group of guys to watch football near the strip? Do sports books comp drinks to small betters? I'm going to vegas in late October, and we'd love to watch football in a book. We would prefer not to drop 10 bucks a beer though. Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any tips. Also, we're mostly from MN and WI, and plan on watching the GB vs. MN game on Sunday night....Any thoughts on a place to watch just one game?

Just in case The Bickerers have forgotten: that is the topic. The Original Poster wants suggests for:

A group of guys in late October
watch football (Green Backers and Minnesota)
Sunday nights
w/o splurging ten bucks for each beer....perhaps a sports book or sports bar or xxxxxx?

So if you have suggestions...post them.
If not...Bicker elsewhere.

thats where the casino gains another advantage. Gambling and drinking.

Alcohol is a depresant. it depresses your brains ability to process info, to remember , to react, to make rational decisions, depressing discipline as well.

for those that tell me that they watch the game to learn and help them for the next game...well if they are drinking alcohol....thats a bogus statement. Your ability to reccollect, and process info is compromised.

drinking and sports betting in a casino is as inadviseable as drinking and playing BJ, roulette, bac, craps and slots.

and then to make matters worse, these folks are unleashed on society in their vehicles after the games.

thank god for the monday night and sunday night football parlay cards.....what better way for an alcohol compromised individual to try to make back the money they lost in the earlier 12 games..or to TRY parlay their earlier winnings into a giant payday.

My girlfriend and I had an entire room to ourselves at the Riveria for hours and hours on the opening day if March Madness. Not the book area, the room behind the bar, bear the pinball section. No free drinks, but $2 fosters as I recall
