I will be in Las Vegas in 3 weeks, and I would like to lay some beats on future win totals for NFL teams, but I have never done that before. What exactly are the basics to making these wagers? I see that some teams have -115 next to the win totals, so what does that mean? Any advice would be appreciated....

I don't really understand what bet you're making, but -115 in a sportsbook context usually means "bet 115 to win 100" or "215 for 115".

Are you talking about the spread... money line bets... total bets... or something else out of curiosity? I haven't heard the term "win totals" before.

-115 means you have to risk 115 to win 100. Or 11.5 to win 10 or other ratio

+110 means you have to risk 100 to win 110

For instance:

Green Bay Packers

Over 12 -115
Under 12 -115

So you are saying that I would need to bet $115 to win $100?

I make one win total bet every year.

My bet this year is Patriots over 11 (I made it before the Aaron Hernandez murder) My alternate pick which I made on Bovada was the Lions Under 8.

-115 is bet 115 for 215 total

+110 is bet 100 for 210 total

Good luck! It's a fun bet.

That is correct, or as mentioned above, $23 to win $20. I like to reduce it down to a common denominator so that if you plan on betting something like $60 you'll do $46 (pays $40, get back $86 on win) or $69 (pays $60, get back $129 on win) in order to avoid that pesky change.

You'll see -110 very often, which is easy because your "unit" is multiples of 11.

Edit: I get it now, you're talking about wins over the course of an entire season not just a single game. Sounds like a fun bet.

They often change the odds as events happen rather hthan change the total to avoid middling. By opening weekend each season some teams are minus 200 or more on one side.

And my best bet for the year is Buffalo over 6.5. With NE down in my opinion and the Jets weak, Buffalo has a chance to shock some people and 8-9 games. But again, just my opinion and betting dollars.

These over/under season win total bets are fun. But not as easy as they look. Every season for the last 4 years I've written down a few I'd like to play and waited to see the results. No actual money wagered. In general underdogs do better than favorites. That is teams with totals under say 6.5 or so..will often manage to get a few more wins than people expect and win the over for you. But the "good" teams with high totals usually end up pretty close to the number. Just an observation. Happy hunting.

I agree...of all the lousy teams this year that I would take a chance on picking the over....the Bills would not be one of them....

Futures wagers are generally bad bets for the player. A sharp bettor can always find some value, but it sucks to have a portion of your bankroll tied up from several months.

The good thing about making (and winning) these type of bets is that it guarantees you a return trip to Vegas in January or February! "Hey honey, I have to go back to Vegas this weekend to collect my $200 from my NFL picks!" haha....in all seriousness though, how long do you have once the season is over to collect your winnings? Is it 60 days?

Have have a good point there. Cancel what I said earlier about future wagers.

I don't have any tickets around the house, but I thought it was 90 days???

I will be in Vegas in a few weeks and also plan on making this bet on cleveland.

Does every casino in Las Vegas offer the over/under on total wins? I don't remember seeing them in our past stays at red rock.

90 days is typical. You can mail it in though.

Not every casino has it, but most do. Cantor books are the best for it.

I agree, take Buffalo and under. They are in a down division this year, but and they have a number of question marks.

Does anyone know what Kansas City is currently at for number of wins? This is a team that has plenty of talent on both sides of the ball and a decent qb.

looking at the schedule I can see buffalo winning 5 games....and if the number is 5.5 then its a tough call...because any team could win one that they werent supposed to...or go up against a better team who just got some big injuries. Or on the other side go up against a mediocre team that just happened to get hot for a few weeks.
Prediciting the future is not in my gambling repetoire.

In fact I never bet on a football games or any sports till the morning of the day it is played. Although I could bet earlier in the week.Too much can change.

could.................is the key word

When I bet, I make a decision based on the most current info near gametime.

leaving it to a 50/50 shot that gametime info will positively affect me by betting early is not a bargain.

thats why I never bet the superbowl 2 weeks before it is played like some people do.

ask people who bet on the Oakland raiders in the superbowl....when the day of the game their center has a breakdown and doesnt show up.

or ask people betting on a team that has a major passing game who bet 5 days before the game and find there are 40 mile per hour gusty winds unexpectedly appearing.

anyone who takes betting seriously and does complete analysis on the games, does not leave their fate to a 50/50 chance that changes favorable to their bet may happen at gametime.

Do you factor in the officiating crew? I had a guy once(and only heard it once) that the serious bettors do in fact use that as part of their analysis. I don't know if the early opening lines are set knowing who will officiate?

The Colts were going to be my pick if the line was 9. 8.5 even isn't bad though. If anyone wants to buy my Patriots OVER 11 ticket, I'd love to sell.

Has this line moved? Id feel very uneasy with buffalo needing 7 wins. They're going to be starting am undrafted QB in week 1. I'd almost say this is a lock for under now
