After a good run at the slots one day about 2 years ago, I won roughly a month's wages of work. My immediate and irrational thought was, "Okay, you can quit your job to be a professional slotter." My next sensible thought was, "Shut up. That's a horrible and stupid idea." I am thankful that I listened to my sensible thought and didn't quit my job because I have very rarely duplicated that success. So, what irrational thoughts have you had slotting?
Really, dude, you tried to buy a flat screen TV for only $3.99? Get out of here, you scam, con arist!

"It's a good idea to hit the spin button approximately 600 times before getting a single bonus." This happened to me about a month ago. I hit the spin button approximately 600 times on Wolf Run at 10 cents a hit before it finally gave me the bonus.

When i win playing table games, I tend to "treat myself" by putting some money into a slot machine. I think to myself...."When am I going to to hit the spin bonus on Wheels Of Fortune?" Followed by "If hit 1000 on the bonus spin about 4 times in the next 1/2 hour, I just might be breaking even on this machine (lifetime)."

A few times, when I've been ahead on a slot machine after 15 minutes, I think to myself, "hey, maybe they messed up the payout percentage on this one, and it's a +EV machine. I should play the heck out of this one." Then I lose my winnings, and console myself that it's just the variance that got me, and it was still a good bet.

The next day, I'm like "what the heck was I thinking?"

Best answer yet, by DRich.
Why don't I see those hot young girls playing whatever? Now I have to scout the 'sex in the city' machines?
I'm afraid I have to admit, some of the +EV plays are behind me. Maybe. Some are still waiting on me. If it has anything to do with "hot young girls", I'll prolly lose more than my average ;-(

Yep, thought that at Bill's Gambling Hall in Dec. of 2011 at about 4:30am. Sat down because of her. She didn't even proposition me...lol

At least I won $20 from "Sex in the City" though in ~10 minutes. She probably noticed I was min betting. lol

You've simply GOT to talk dirty, really dirty, to the slut machine.

Call it every name in the book; go off like a drunken sailor, loudly and often, and when you're done yelling give it the stink eye for at least thirty seconds, then fart loudly, smile broadly and go for it.

^I remember someone ssying that they won a "free" $20 toaster with $100 at the Casino. I think the promotion was Toaster Giveaway day, and you just needed to make 25 points or something like that. Points are notorious for being hard to get. For example, I have had spent hundreds in the Casino and still don't have enough withdrawal points to get $5 promo money(not including Free play Thursday).

Makes perfect sense considering the casinos are there to make money and not give away free toasters.

The fact that you keep bringing this up means 1 of 2 things.

1. The story was fabricated
or
2. You have no remorse for doing something irrational which is feeding into your gambling problem.

The single most irrational thought/act that came to mind was when I had the good fortune of winning 750 dollars of free play.

I thought that I could afford to use that free play on a high dollar slot machine, as it would likely reward me in some fashion, beyond that of a lower value machine.

I hadn't really thought it through. While I agree it's all random - I think if I'd played $1's or .50 cents instead of $10, I would have won substantially more because I would have had a lot more chances at a jackpot. I still kick myself for thinking that.

"I expect to win " is another flawed thought that crosses my mind far too often. But, if I expected to lose, I'd never go.

About chasing progressives, I once ended up blindly pumping a lot of money into an 88 Fortunes slot, just because the "bowl" looked full. I read the advice that if the "bowl," looks full, it is wise to play it, because it is due to close any second and give you the Progressive.

I blew money I really shouldn't have, not money that I particularly needed, but I could have left with a lot more money than I did, chasing that elusive Progressive, each Chinese Symbol that came up and added another "Coin," caused me to think it would finally close, and I kept going. I finally decided to cash out and then come back after changing my TITO into cash, hoping the machine would think I was a new player.. Lo, and behold, someone was already on the machine when I came back. I just mentally rolled my eyes and didn't even check to see if the bowl closed. I just went home.
