Ok math people,
I just got back from a six-handed Texas Hold-em home game where I received NO pocket pairs for 4 hours!! Let's assume we play about 25 hands an hour. What are the odds of receiving no pocket pairs?
Needless to say it was a losing night.
Thanks!

Odds of not having pocket pair = 94.12% (1-3/51)
Total hands = 100 (25x4)
Odds of not getting a pocket pair in 100 hands = .2329% (.9412^100)
So you could expect this to happen 1/429 sessions. Poor luck, but not all that incredible.

25 hands per hour in a home game might be a bit high. How much drinking was going on? :)

Lol. We had two decks and little drinking. So the game moved pretty quickly. Even if 25 is an overstatement, it still was no fun to look down at terrible cards all night. There's only so many times you can see Q7o before you go a little crazy.

But that's the computer hand! 50-50 against a random hand. Raise it up!

Since it's a home game, the next time you're running bad suggest a new game:
"Second Best"
Play any no-hi/lo split, no wild card game, the regular way, but the winner will be the one whose best five card hand is the second best. This works best with "choice" games such as seven stud, or five card draw.
Of course, if you are running really bad, this will be the time you draw a straight flush.
