From SHFL's "Wine Cellar of Games", this looks like a competing product to Galaxy's High Card Flush.

SHFL's Straight Edge Poker

I would doubt that properties would put both on the same floor as the concepts are so similar.

Battle of the Flushes vs. Battle of the Straights.....will be interesting to play both at this year's G2E and see if there is a clear winner.

No details on SEP Side Bets appear on SHFL website, potentially intentional so the game can be properly introduced at G2E. Pacman can comment on that.

I did try HCF on my last trip to WA, but stayed off the mammoth edged side bets. The game play experience was better than I expected and I did have some fun.

New lower HE pay tables for HCF side bets recently approved in WA for Galaxy and that should open the way for more installs occurring and sticking......game was holding way too high at initial site I played to last long (around 50%).

I dind't see how many cards get dealt. A 4-card straight is not that rere in a 7-card hand.

I played a bit of High Card Flush with the icomparable PaigowDan last trip. I enjoyed it. In fact, had the weather been nicer, I'd ahve perhaps braved the trip back to PH... The only drawback is that for some reason I got into PGP mode, that is high hand-low hand. I kept putting the flush cards in the discard pile as a consequence. fortunately the dealer was very understanding and let me switch afterwards.

As to the side bets, you can bet them for $1. That's a nice compromise for the recreational gambler looking for a small thrill. And a nice way to bet for the dealer.

They have 7 cards in the logo, so I assume it is a 7 card game.

As in HCF you are playing against the dealer, so the likelihood of straights occurring is similar for you and the dealer. It may make pay outs on the side bets not be as high as are available in HCF.

More details to come I am sure.

Has anyone taken the time to verify the side bets in this game yet? The one that piques my interest is the 25:1 payout for when you have a 2-card straight or less. It would seem that the hit rate for that would be less than 1:25 (considering with a 7-card stud hand you will have hands that have full houses, 3-pairs, etc. would make for the 2-card straight being fairly likely).

It's less than a two-card straight (i.e. a one-card straight).

It seems like a fun game. Is it in Vegas anywhere?

I just re-read the rules, and that is correct (1 card straight). My bad.
I still don't know what the hit rate for that would be, though. Would it be under 7-card straight rules somewhere on WOO?

Assuming (and you know what happens when you assume) that I didn't mess up anywhere, paying 25 to 1 on 1 card straights has a house edge of 9.1185410334347% .

Looks like the house edge mechanism on Straight Edge Poker is the dealer getting 8 cards and players getting 7 cards. See game rules as published by the Washington State Gambling Commission here: Straight Edge Poker Rules

Not sure I like that mechanism versus a qualifying hand in High Card Flush. I think it is too obviously bad for players and one of the reasons that Crazy 4 Poker seems to have won out over Four Card Poker as the "standard" for a 4 Card Poker game.

Straight Edge does offer the "Dragon Bonus" type payout for no additional wager if you beat the dealer by 2 or more and that is built in to the base game and not an additional side bet offering (kind of like the large payouts on the Blind Bet in UTH).

Will be interesting to try out at G2E next week!

Just an FYI: There are twice as many Four Card Poker tables in North America than Crazy 4 Poker tables.

That is surprising to hear, thanks for that correction/information. Which game has had more installs over the last three years? It seems like I see Crazy 4 in more locations out West (NV, CA & WA), but maybe that isn't accurate either.
