The Patriots winning the Superbowl won me $450 on Bovada. I received the check promptly two weeks ago and immediately deposited. The check was returned today, and now I am out $450 + $10 fee. I have contacted Bovada, and will contact the bank also. I am obviously concerned, and will update the forum as soon as I have news.

The checks are usually from a Canadian bank and sometimes your bank will "return" the check if they immediately gave you credit for it, until it clears which can take weeks. I had this happen to me as they gave me the money in the usual 24 hours and then pulled it back because it was not a US check. They charged me a fee also because it was a non US check. I hope this is the situation here.

It's probably just a goof by the bank because it's a Canadian check. I've never had problems with Bovada before. But hopefully this is resolved quickly for you.

My bank said that the bank account the check was sent from has been closed. Bovada said they need proof of that. So it looks like this may take a while. Stay tuned. Oh, I also got charged a $10 fee as well...

Bovada is probably broke now that they are not the exclusive advertising partner of the Wizard sites.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

I heard they took a huuuuge loss on the UFC last weekend. They had a few bettors parlay every under dog on the card and all 10 or 11 under dog fighters won. Massive losses for Bovada

I guess it's possible, but not very likely. More likely just someone starting a rumor. I guess it depends on what you call HUUUGE. For a site like Bovada, it would be a lot.

EDIT: Just found an ESPN article on it. It's not a rumor, but it's definitely not a deal breaker amount to Bovada. $1,000,000 is a good amount for sure, but they'll make 10x that on all other events this year.

Not sure how checks work, but it was deposited two weeks ago, so the fight shouldn't have affected anything. I'm concerned. Customer service should know that they sent me a bad check, they shouldn't have to have me prove it to them.

They sent me a check a while back. My credit union credited but it did not clear. They actually had to submit again (by mail, I think) and it was paid fairly quickly. I would fight the $10 fee once they figure out they should have processed it differently. They know how to process foreign checks.

This is nothing to worry about. Everybody in the business that takes US players uses multiple check processors and sometimes these things happen. Just tell Bovada and I'm sure they will get a new check out to you, plus the bounced check fee if you mention it to them.

So, Bovafa doesn't have enough bankroll to cover their ass? I'm shocked. They're probably blowing all the money on hookers and cocaine.

I don't know maybe a processor failed, if they use them. Fingers crossed you get your money with little effort.

Update - they put the $450 in my bovada account, I'm still hoping for the other $10. I will attempt to get a payout again, I hope the check is valid this time.

I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for all of the comments.

EDIT - In fairness to Bovada, I've cashed out many times and never had this problem. That is why I was concerned this time however.

Okay. As long as it wasn't hookers and cocaine. Or if they want to invite me to the party I'll keep my mouth shut. As long as I get a line and the best hooker.

The other $10 has been put in my account and I have requested a complete new payout of $460.00. So far this has been handled perfectly (besides the bad check, haha).

Isn't the owner of Bovada a billionaire? I'm pretty sure he is, but I can't recall.

Either way, a million dollars is large, but no where near catastrophic for them.

I guess partly that depends on whether one believes what he says: that he doesn't own it anymore.

Back when PokerStars was still running real-money poker in the US, one of their processors failed on one check I cashed out. They told me to not cash the check because their processor was frozen and they gave me the 110% of the value of the check back into my account. I was impressed.

I received the check for the full amount today. I'll be depositing it tomorrow. If it goes two weeks without any problems, then this matter is closed.

Actually, Bovada has been great through this whole process. My bank has probably been more of a pain.
