Bovada Pulls Out of Nevada and Delaware
June 20, 2014 By Kevin Horridge

Major online poker operator Bovada has announced that it has ceased to accept new players from Nevada and Delaware. This follows its declaration at the end of last month that New Jersey players would no longer be able to open Bovada accounts, which means the company has effectively shut up shop on the newly regulated American markets. Bovada Pulls Out of Nevada and Delaware But not on time, they still got a lot of Nevadans knocked up, I just hope they will continue to send the support checks.

Did Washingtonians have to cash out and cease playing altogether? I realize the law in Washington is more strict.

While reading that article. I noticed that Bobada and Bodogs are not connected. Was I correct in assuming this?

When they pulled out of WA, they actively canceled all accounts and gave you direction as to get your balance out via a friend or family member in a non-WA state. You couldn't even log in to the website. I had an open sports bet (it was a futures bet, O/U on the Mariners' season win total) and I had to specifically call them to refund to me the base bet and call it no action. If I hadn't done that, they would have just kept that money win or lose, I'm convinced. (I guess theoretically they could have gotten ahold of me and paid out if I won, but I doubt it and don't have a time machine handy.)

Now, WA is allowed in again, but that is what happened in the moment. So it sounds like existing NV customers are getting a better deal out of it (assuming being able to play is a good deal for them).

EDIT: Maybe someone should merge these threads? I've had a couple whiskeys and just realized after posting that this is the duplicate thread.

What I heard, though, was that the reason they pulled out of WA is that it is a felony to gamble online there. AFAIK, it's not a felony in the other states. In fact, in NJ, I know that it's illegal to gamble on unregulated websites - but thus far have been unable to find a punishment (not a lawyer, but I went through that section of the law about a year ago. Maybe there's been updates to it but IDK.)

Furthermore, my understanding of the situation is that "illegal" in this context means that the state will not help you if you're ripped off. So it's a weird situation as far as NJ goes, and I don't think there's any good reason to think that my funds aren't safe - or that the state will expend resources to take any further action against Bovada (they sent a letter to WPN at very least asking them to stop.)

Either way I won't stop playing on these sites because then I'd have to get a job (I'm in college, so the income I make playing online poker is better than I would at another - far more boring and less flexible - job.) Not to mention Bovada has the best tournament schedule available to the US market, hands down.

There is no mechanism I'm aware of to merge threads. I'm hoping those commenting on this topic will put it together and let one of them die.
