My best metaphor is the scene in Star Trek generation where the away team visits a Borg ship for the first time. At first the Borg (the casino) seems oblivious to the away team and they appear motionless. Soon after the Borg units begin to attack the away team, but the federation cuts them down easily with phasers. Eventually the Borg (the casino) begins to adapt and deflect the phaser fire of the away team. Later on the Borg starts assimilating high profile members of the Federation like captain Picard (Bob Dancer, maybe others) lol.

I missed the episodes of Star Trek, where Cap Picard told his Borg friends where their flaws were and that an attack was imminent.

Metaphor..... Fleastiff is madly thumbing through his Funk & Wagnals.

I'd like to come up with something clever and exotic (maybe even something that might send Face en route to Wikipedia, make Paco think I'm actually educated and incite MustangSally to post a proof carried out to eight decimal places). Unfortunately nothing comes to me caffeine-deprived mind right now. Perhaps some of that Comedia del Arte stuff where there are these masks or perhaps that term from today's telecommunications world: the cloud.

The reason for my confusion is that we just don't seem to agree on what an AP is and if we here can't agree on it, well I sure can't blame some newly promoted dealer strutting around for the first time in a suit from thinking he knows what an AP is. Heck a week ago he was advising people to take Insurance and to opt for "No Action", now he is spouting off about APs. Ain't nothing changed about his intellect you know! He still eats the food in the EDR that was left sitting out in yesterday's buffet and would otherwise be on its way to those railroad cars in North Las Vegas that get filled up from casino leftovers and emptied out at pig farms.

So what is an AP anyway. You look at EasyVegas and you find out that an AP is a largely mythical creature who needs a bankroll of considerable size and therefore probably doesn't have to scurry around Vegas playing for chickenfeed. You go to the Silverton and meet some retirees who play Video Poker for twelve hours a day and make about twelve dollars doing it. Or we can look at someone such as the poor souls who run around Vegas on buses (Lord save me from such a fate) or actually walking in the hot sun amongst the hoi poloi, posers and prostitutes. What is an AP and how much do they make and what indignities do they have to suffer to do it? I don't know. That is why I think of a cloud or mask. There seems to be no clarity to the situation. After the indignity from riding a bus, I would spend a fortune in booze, soap and scrubbrushes, so how could I be an AP?

I keep hearing that an AP has to be a good actor to avoid "heat" but I keep hearing conflicting stories as to just how much heat is in those air conditioned casinos. I hear about top notch steak houses and I hear about buffets that the homeless would decline. So you can see that I remain very confused on this issue.

I would say that an AP has to be someone who is not forced to commit any sinful or disgraceful acts such as riding a bus or walking in the noonday sun as if he were an Englishman.

I would say that an AP has to have an advantage that is sustained and significant which provides a real world income rather than some sort of income in a world without tipping or alternative costs.

Its like those geographical groupings of slot machine holds. Yes, if you look at the digits you can see Boulder Strip gives you a bigger bang for your buck, but if you happen to already be on The Strip what use is it to know about those few measly decimal places that are not worth the shoe leather or travel time.

Best analogy: Indians and Pilgrims.

Because Indians own casinos and pilgrims travel to foreign lands. And also historically because pilgrims (APs) were an intellectually superior society that stole all the Indians' natural resources (money), and Thanksgiving was the day Pilgrims first took advantage of comps. And we also purposely gave them blankets, previously used by ploppies, which made them lose their minds and was often fatal...just like today, when we purposely leave them alone with ploppies when the count falls, who complain about the flow when we leave, which induces dealer stress and errors. I am now taking this too far.

In the historical version, I think it's safe to say the 'Indians' lost.
While a few 'won'. In Canada, most of the native population live below the poverty line, especially almost all on reserves. A lot don't even have running water.
While the chiefs (few winners) live like kings and go on cruises etc.

In the analogy version, the 'Indians' (Indian casinos or casinos in general) still win. While a few advantage players have 'won' but the majority 'don't even have running water'.

Is the analogy about successful AP's? Because I think 85% of people go into the casino truly believing they are an AP.
From systems to 'AP's' who may have trouble with math and make a few mistakes to never fully become successful to true AP's.

Now that I finished explaining my thoughts, I think I really over thunk your original post...

Edit: did you edit and add a whole paragraph? Or did I only read half the post? I didn't see your comparison explanation before.

I don't know if he was being serious, even if he is being serious, I still found that a pretty amusing post.

I obviously have more up my sleeve (especially around here) in terms of Advantage Plays, but I would still fail to qualify under the, "Real world income," standard. I believe that I could make a real world income off of advantage playing, if I really applied myself, but until my kids are older, salaried job and guaranteed money with some side recreational AP sounds more appropriate.

After they are independent, though, who knows what I'll do!

Nonsense. He devoted his time and efforts and they are appreciated and it was also a very entertaining article but I have had a longstanding aversion to such things as buses or running all over town to collect a free pack of cards or a pair of fuzzy dice. I just don't see leaving an air conditioned casino and its free booze to walk in the hot sun to get to a casino offering slightly looser slots or some modest inducement. One woman said she "had to drag it from the parking lot all the way through the casino to the "free spin wheel" and when she won only one dollar she decided to drag it all the way back and had to do it in high heels" but would not gamble in that casino again.

If this "nickle and dime" stuff really mattered, everyone in town would migrate to the Boulder Strip and no one would ever play at the airport concession. Mission is young and athletic and perhaps an Englishman... so he probably loves the noonday sun. He certainly seems to love buses and so too do many others. I just think its ridiculous to race all over town even though I was impressed with the amount of money he happened to make at it.

Its like Dotty's. Many people enjoy them, some seven days a week but one forum member posted a request that if we ever find him in Dottys, we shoot him.

I get the general idea of what you are saying, but you're throwing additional things in that have nothing to do with my article. Going to Boulder Strip had nothing to do with, "Looser Slots," in fact, I never said anything about playing any slot machine. Further, I didn't even play any slot machine outside of the context of doing this stuff except for when I played on my last day with RudeBoyOi and BeachBumBabs, and I only put $1.00 in one then.

I also do not suggest anyone wear heels, I specifically said to bring tennis shoes.

Finally, I didn't say anything about collecting fuzzy dice or any of that stuff.

This article simply isn't meant for you, that's all. It's not really meant for an actual advantage player (including myself) except I like walking around and seeing what all of the different casinos are like, anyway, so that I can answer questions that people may have. This is meant for people who want to take a free trip and who don't know a ton about gambling.

Personally, I just think you're reading some intent to my article that isn't there and judging it based on whatever intent you think it was written for. If the article were about making, "A real world income," it'd be called, "How to make a Real World Income Advantage Playing."

I agree that the amounts of money involved don't matter, that's the idea, you have enough EV to pay for a trip other than travel expenses, is the purpose of the whole article!

I also like walking, although the Wednesday was too hot. I'm not an Englishman, but I don't mind being called one. The BConnected shuttles are clean and aesthetically appealing. I also liked racing around town, so that now I know stuff about places and can make recommendations to people based on what they want in a casino, give directions, and information of which I have first hand experience.

Thanks for the compliment about the money! Actually, my EV was better than that and I made more off of the coupons. It's just I don't want to recommend some of the places or some of the coupons I used.
