I got an email overnight asking if I knew anything about a $3-million craps win that just happened at Caesars. I don't. Anybody hear about this?

If such a win happened, then Caesar's will dispute the win in an effort to delay paying out. That's how they operate over there. They don't like to part with the money.

Otherwise it would be all over Twitter and various other sites.

No it wouldn't.

Here's why... (Keep in mind this is IF such a win happened.)

If someone were to have won that much money, and if Caesars decided to delay paying out by disputing the win, then the casino won't be talking about the win, and the players will have likely been instructed by their attorney to keep their mouths shut so that they don't piss off gaming officials.

It's my guess that Alan received a very discrete tip from one of the angry frustrated players since he's a former LA reporter.

I don't know who the person was who sent me the query. It was just a question: Did someone just win $3-million playing craps at Caesars?

I asked the execs I know and they will not comment. One said "wins and losses like this happen all the time" and I don't believe that for one minute. I've never seen that kind of money won or lost at the craps tables at Caesars.

The max single bet at Caesars is $50,000 for a place, pass or come bet so its not like someone bet $3 and pulled a lever on megabucks.

edited to add:

Just as a side note: about a year ago, three convention-goers were at Caesars playing at a fifteen dollar table. just them one afternoon. one of the guys held the dice for nearly TWO hours. And the only bets the three of them were betting was the pass line and a couple of numbers and never pressed-- so I was told.

Their combined win was minimal considering the length of the hand. I only wish I had been there.

A local player in Calgary won a little over $20k with a $200 max bet (and only 2x odds at the time). If someone is playing max bet, a 60 unit win (3000k / 50k) is far from unreasonable to imagine.

Even that's not that big of a win in LV.

What is the 3million win... is it from 1 bet? or from a session, which could have gone for a few hours.

I am not familiar with the max bets at caesers but if you can place max 50k on each number.....
roll a point of 4 with max on the line, take max odds (could you do 50k on the line, with 3x odds of another 150k?)
40k buy the 10
45k the 5 and 9
48k the 6 and 8
And then go on to have a good roll, a couple of 10s in there with a bunch of inside numbers, followed by rolling a 4 and getting paid even more.

depending on someones intial buy-in and regular betting patterns does a 3mil win really sound that unrealistic?

I would imagine Ceaser's would let it go higher than $50k..hell, my local $2 crap game lets you go up to $1k on the passline with 3/4/5 odds...

Probably the "cursed" table at Caesars: you know, the one with an inordinate amount of fours and tens.
"What, me worry?"
