Best Tip for Dealers

Ask any Craps Dealer. If you prefer to make a bet for the "Boys" an odds bet will yield a higher payout than a straight tip or a hard way 2 way or any other bet on the table.

You can make this bet by simply placing an amount equal to your free odds bet behind the line beside your pass line free odds bet. Just say, "Two Way Odds".

In this way the dealers may realize the odds payout which will be better than any other bet as it yields absolutely no casino edge.

Believe me, there's a love hate relationship between those dealers and the house. The cheap bastards only pay minimum wage or close to it, and the dealers have to rely on tips to pay their bills. Yes., the same bills you and I have every month.

To my knowledge even on a double odds table you are allowed to bet an additional double odds bet for the crew, that is to say if you had a $5 dollar pass line bet you may put down $10 for yourself and an additional $10 for the crew. What box man will deny you?

This also gives us some control over which bets we choose to make as tips. If the point is a 6 or 8, we can utilize "Casino Odds" and pack our bets and tip a bit up to ??.

Most dealers won't fault you if you tip less when you're having a bad night, but if your hot DON'T GET CHEAP! You're in Vegas Baby. What goes around comes around.

Pass line with odds. If you're playing the don't, then a don't bet. Real impressive, more impressive than dollar hardways.

One big drawback of Rapid Craps is that you can place a pass line bet with dealer chips, but can't place odds to go along with it (at least I didn't see how). So I wound up just tipping directly, which I preffer anyway. I figure the dealer can then gamble his money or not as he choses.

One RapidCraps thing I'm curious about is if the dealer even knows when players make dealer bets. Does it show up indicating where the bet was placed? Or only if it wins? Or only an amount? Or only an amount if it wins?

Curious minds and all that leads me to just toss chips 'for the boys' when playing RapidCraps.

They get some notification. I'm sure because a few times the dealer on stick duty, who also had the controls, would thank a player for a tip. I've no idea what notification they get. Maybe next time, if things are slow, I'll ask to take a look at their screen.

I was just at Bill's for 4 days and played Rapid Craps a lot.
So easy to play for 6 to 8 hours since you can sit down and kick back. I won also. Most dealers now after a year or so having the game keep the game going at a nice pace except when cashing out or buying in during a hand. That still sucks.

Yes, DJ, the dealers know how much and who makes a bet(s) for them, they thanked me for making the bet before it won or lost and also after. Most were very happy I even made bets for them. They also see all players bets on their screen. I was really the only one making any dealer bets during my stay. Most players tip as they cash out.
Any bet can be a dealer bet. pass odds, any 7, hardways even a few field winners.
They need to add the fire bet that their regular tables have. I hit 8 points in a row and every point number, the only time in my life and NO fire bet.

Let me ask this. If you're playing the don't side, would it be better to wait until the bet travels, so that the dealers have a better chance of actually getting the money(winning), than to announce it when you actually place the bet. So if your don't bet doesn't get established you eat it as opposed to the dealers? Just curious.

Edited: To say that...If the dealers are on the don't(established bet) how would the ignorant/superstitious players feel or think. "Well, if those guys(dealers) weren't/aren't against us, you know they are now with the don't bet up. And that ass(player) that put them there!"....ugh

I disagree with the statement of "Ask any craps dealer..." and that they all want to have gamblers toke them with pass line and odds bets. Or don't pass and odds bets.

Try this experiment. Throw a $1 chip to the dealers and say, "Anywhere you want it. For the boys.". And see what they will do with it.

Sometimes we put it on the pass line, sometimes the 8, sometimes a hardways, sometimes a yo or 12.

To my knowledge, you can't bet an ADDITIONAL odds bet without a needed line bet. (I always play max odds for myself, I couldn't just put more odds out and say "For The Dealers")
Now, if someone else on the table isn't maxed out, then I have the dealers put it behind THEIR bet (sometimes the dumb fuckers will pick it up; but the dealers quickly remind them who it's for)

It was discussed in another thread. If you have a line bet with max odds, you certainly CAN exceed the max, provided everyone knows that the excess is for the boys.

If a casino won't let you do that, find another casino.

exactly, but some houses include the toke bet with the player's same bet. You can't do this (go over the table limit) with a "player's control" bet, but as a separate dealers' control bet. The house really can't object, because the player can say "I didn't exceed the table limit, as that's NOT my bet - it's the dealer's bet, under their control."
If the boxman still gives you crap (so to speak), he would be a real dick, and so you can just place the point for the dealers.
In fact, you can make a max pass line/odds bet, AND make a max place bet on the same point number for yourself, to double the table limit in separate bets, for that matter.

For myself, and not as advice, when I throw out a green for 12 each on the 6 and 8 in conjunction with my PL/Odds, I'll throw the white into the field and announce "dealers in the field". I know it's not much, but it's my first bet of the session and it lets them know I'm there. If things get rolling, I go to PL and encourage others to add odds to my bet, or throw odds onto somebody elses dealer bet. I also like Raleigh Craps suggestion of a $6 6 or 8 "I control the bet."

When I go to Vegas in a couple of weeks I am going to try something different. When I buy in at a table I am going to toss the dealer a red chip before I play and see if notice any difference. I usually only play red chips and I want to let the dealer know that I will take care of them before the game starts to ensure they will be extra friendly with me.

I like Nick's idea of an early tip to see if the dealers notice or care. If they don't, I would probably not tip quite as much.

I may try this too, I will be there Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 3-6)...I am totally cool with this idea.

I have always tipped the same way.....$1 P/L bet every 4 come out rolls or so........If a point is established.....2X's odd.......So about $14 or $15 bucks an hour.....

This is what I do as well, except at a slower rate. I only do this when I have the dice, and then only on my come out roll. (I also though in an occasional $1 hardway for the dealers if the situation calls for it). I estimate about $5 / hour tipping*, which I thought was more then sufficient for a low roller (red chipper) like me. Isn't it?

I tip twice. My usual casino has the fire bet so there's a buck on it for them, and they made $1,000 once on my roll. Then at the end of the night, I'll tip them as well, usually about $5-10 depending on how I do.

At a casino where I'm not known I'll tip early so that they know that I'm not a chump. Usually, it will be a two-way hard ways bet or it might be just a straight out tip if a few points hit in a row.

To further go on the subject of going past "max odds" "for the boys"...I went to several different casino's and tried this and was denied on all accounts...they simply made it a place bet...
