Tonight I did something against my better judgment: I gambled at Ilani casino.

This is the closest casino to Portland, and my least favorite of all.

I played craps for a bit, but the table was cold, I was losing, and decided to stop that session.

"Color me up, this table is too cold for me," I told the dealer.

He said "those words are for quitters."

Which leads to the issue at hand: it pissed me off that he said it.

We'd not seen each other before, he'd not dealt to me previously.

Sure, it could have been just dealer chatter, but the way he said it was as if he were trying to shame me.

To me, it implied a level of familiarity that was nonexistent, a crossing of a line.

No tip for the boys tonight.

You must have rubbed him the wrong way while you were playing. Maybe he didn't like your attitude and wanted to stick it to you one last time before you left the table. Personally, I think he should have kept his mouth shut and just do what he is paid to do and deal. Too many dealers try to be funny and cute these days.

I agree with you. He crossed the line. He shouldn't have said that. I'm surprised you didn't report him to the pit boss because that was unprofessional of him to say. If the Gambler no longer wants to play, let them go in a professional way, not a snarky remark like what he told you.

Maybe had he been WINNING and decided to quit while he was ahead a sarcastic witty reply would have been fun for him. But for someone who is LOSING you just are shocked by the unprofessionalism and just want to get out of there.

I'm leaning towards rude considering he found it offensive.

If it doesn't sound bad, why would you feel that you should have a sarcastic comment back? I'm just wondering.

did you not try the don't pass bet, or one to six possible Lay bets
or just Laying the point?
seems there is money to be made (that should be fun) when the table is HOT or COLD.

you said "the table was cold"
what exactly you mean by that statement?

you were losing playing the way you were, and what was that method?

decided to stop
because you were losing money and that was and is no fun?
"when the fun stops"

I ask as I have seen many leave a cold table
not knowing how to make money from it. (I asked them)

sure a HOT table is easy money
seems more tables get and stay cold than get HOT and stay hot

3 point Molly. very common method of play.

your choice.

Many know of the don't pass bet but still hate seeing it lose on those awful 7s and 11s
on the comeout roll.
Even fewer know about Lay bets.
Even fewer know they can win with a Lay bet against a point while the whole table is losing the pass line bet and complaining and cashing out from a cold table.

still fun to win on a cold table
less fun in losing

I think it's foolish to go through life constantly looking for ways in which another person's harmless actions have offended or slighted you. Or even if they have caused you some minor harm. It's much nicer to not care. I can really only recall one instance in which a dealer angered me, having interacted with over 1,000. Really, it would be better for me even then, if I didn't care and forgot about it.

However, many people are offended or slighted by a wide range of actions and it's very hard to predict which person will be offended by what. Much more so in gambling. So, if you work in service it's best to just be really upbeat and optimistic and mirror the customer to the best of your ability. Check your sincerity at the door. If they believe in aliens, you believe in aliens.

As a customer: the one time every 2 years someone is so negligent that I tip less than the standard, I will give their tip to someone else, usually someone who will appreciate it a lot more. A janitor, a barista, etc.

crazier guy than me next to me is playing his life savings at least the look on his face said that.
man loses all of his money. guy looks like hes about to go end it walks away slowly as his last spin happens because he knows he lost.

dealer yells YOU WON and the dude comes over and realizes he didnt win. dude had the look of murder on his face and rightfully so says "Why did you do that?".

i left the table too out of being pissed for the dude. i felt so bad if i were managing i would have fire the dude.

Had he dealt to me many times and had we built up a rapport it would have been different due to the "familiarity."

Like when buddies rib each other.

But it was the first time I'd seen him.

Normally I tip a craps crew, but I didn't this time: short session, lost, irked.

I lost on three shooters in a row.

When that happens the session ends.

I don't expect to win a "long hand one or two times," but I do expect to win once every three shooters.

Yeah, lots of times that doesn't happen, and lots of times I wrap it up and walk.

There's other games to play in a casino besides craps.
