Hello everyone!

Recently I've been at an Italian casino to play craps, they have only 1 table which its minimum limit is 10 Euros for Pass/Don't Pass, the same for 4,5,9 and 10 and 12 euros for 6 and 8.
When I bet on DP ODDS,the minimum for 6 and 8 was 12 euros, for 5 and 9 was 15 and for 4/10 was 20 Euros in order to round up the payout to 10 euros.
BUT when I tried to LAY instead of bet Don't Pass odds, they told me that the minimum was way over in order to pay 50 euros in every case, whether was 4,5,6,8,9 or 10.
My question is,if the minimum is 10 euros,WHY the LAY bets to be 60 for laying 6/8, 75 for 5/9 and 100 euros for 4/10 (plus 5% vigorish paid on win)??
Is this normal? Have you ever encounter such issue??

You know I'll run out of fingers before I can do the math, but it all seems just fine to me.

Big difference between a LAY BET and LAYING THE ODDS.

If this was dollars instead of euros it would all be just fine so whats so wrong if its euros?

Most places have a minimum to-win amount of 20 for lay bets, regardless of the table minimum (unless of course the minimum is > 20.) So for 4/10 that would be 40 (pays 20), 5/9 would be 30 (pays 20) and 6/8 would be 24 (pays 20)

I believe they do that to keep a higher house edge on you. Oppose to the DP/DC where your $60 bet regardless the point will win you even money. You can dodge the 7 or 11 by not playing the DP/DC and then lay a No 4 or No 10 after the point's established. It's to your advantage that a 7 will hit before any number, and because of this you have to bet more to win less. I equate it to sport betting.

Thank you for your answers.
The way I see this is mostly about CHOOSING what number to LAY any given time, rather than difference in the amount.
So my opinion is that LAY is better than DP/DC ODDS because you pick the number and you are getting paid with any 7,but this is not the case for DP/DC odds with EVERY Come Out Roll.
DP/DC odds pay slightly better because are vigorish free, but overall worst in my point of view.
What do you think?

Which lay bets have lower house edges than DP/DC odds?

craps is a simple game. Simply pick a side, the pass or the DP, then make pass and come bets or DP and DC bets with as much odds as your bankroll allows.

all other bets, strategies, schemes and systems are the folly of the slime that sells them and the fools that buy them.

Yes,that's the two main reasons,I can choose my opponent and I could win any given time with sevens.
I might get less payout per win,but a deducted win is better than a loss.
The simple explanation to your EV theory is DEVIATION...!

simple game

I agree, if all you want to do is lose, craps is just as simple as playing a
slot machine,

But one would have to be more than one brick short of a full load not to understand
that craps is the only game in the casino which allows you to have some
influence over the outcome.

Now influence can be betting with a number of different opportunities.
It can be your toss, which may or may not give some one an advantage.
It is also your ability to vary your bet size, when you bet, as well as when you
leave the table or when you enter table play.

If you take the game past the simple stage, just watching table action prior to
playing can tell you an awful lot.

But I understand most gamblers want to keep it simple and just lose.

None, because you have to lay more in order to win less. Where as the DP you make even money. Some lay bets offer better odds. Like the 6 & 8. Lay 24 to win 20. Which you rarely see anyone do because of the probability factor. The popular lay bets are 4 & 10 but you wager $40 +1 commission=$41 to win 20! I've knocked off a guys $500 No 4 (lay bet). I've also witnessed a guy lay 1k on a No 4. Shooter rolls 6,5,4,and then 7's out! It only makes sense to lay when you have a big bankroll. The house advantage is high on lay bets.

House Edge
Lay Bets (6 and 8) - 4.00%
Lay Bets (5 and 9) – 3.23%
Lay Bets (4 and 10) – 2.44%

The house advantage for Don’t Pass and Don’t Come bets is 1.40%.

Why would someone want to loose?
Is this a kind of entertainment?
In my point of view, nobody wants to loose, the game is becoming enjoyable the moment you start to win.
But many afraid to admit because it'd hurt their egos/emotions if they loose.
There is no guarantee in gambling and always involves risk, you can win and loose with anything...
However, this doesn't mean that every method is the same, some are better than others, but none is perfect.
