MGM craps story

During a recent trip to Vegas my girlfriend, friend and I decided to all play $100 each at a $10 min craps table. We joined the table and after two quick seven outs it was my friends turn to shoot. He quickly rolled a seven out and soon after my girlfriend rolled a seven out as well. With $40 left for myself, $30 for my friend and my girlfriend leaving the table, the dice were passed to me. I proceed to hit 3 points in a row (with some come bets with odds) and set a 4th point. As my bankroll had made it's way past $200 I decided to increase my bet. I placed my max odds and waited for the stickman to pass me the dice. As he's passing me the dice I hear from across the table "Don't roll a 7!" Not only did I hear it once or twice but three times. I tossed the dice across the table and immediately sevened out. We colored up and left. I didn't win an absurd amount of money or have the hottest streak ever but it's still a decent story in my eyes.

I'm not a superstitious player but I would never say, let alone yell "Don't roll a 7" when someone else is shooting. What are your thoughts? Keep in mind this girl was loud and obnoxious the entire time. She was with a group of girls and one guy who was actually playing and they obviously didn't understand the game. Case and point, the guy she was with only made field bets and pass line bets with no odds the entire time.

I was on the caribbean island of St. Maarten with some friends and my wife. She had played craps before but never really been shown how the game works. My friend, Carlos was shooting and my wife was standing next to me, drinking her vodka, cranberry, not saying a word......My friend rolled for about 10 minutes and we had some good fun and a decent amount of money on the layout. Still, my wife never said a word. After making a parlayed hard 6 we all cheered and erupted.....still not a peep from her. When the inevitable 7 out was announced by the stick and we all hung our heads.....my wife perked up and shouted....YAY Carlos!!!!!

Man, I was not his favorite for a while :)

It's too bad you couldn't have arranged ahead of time for the girl to signal you exactly when she was going to cause the seven-out with her rude verbal statement -- you could have made a fortune hopping the 7s.

That's exactly why I posted this story!

I was on a great run one day in craps. Up over 6K in about half an hour. I lost it all back in the next 15 minutes plus the 3K I brought. I looked down on the floor and saw a quarter. I picked it up, walked over to the nearest slot machine, and popped it in. I lost that too and went home.

We all have stories about superstitions which became true:

---the player who buys in during a hot roll and the next roll is the 7 out
---the "new player" who comes to the table and asks what happens if a 7 is rolled, and the next roll is a 7
---the dice go off the table and the next roll is a 7
---the shooter stops to order a drink and the next roll is a 7

and on and on....

and generally one out of six times the 7 shows up when these things happen.

this is why superstitious people (and I am the most superstitious SOB you ever met at a craps table) should play at an empty table, with no more than one other player who also knows craps ettiquette. And then when you 7 out, you have no one to blame but yourself.... and the stick man change.

I agree that I probably would have been annoyed as well, but (drunk or not) she didn't know any better. I usually cut ignorant people a little more slack.

Clear violation of craps etiquette that had no actual effect on the results of the game. Sure, be upset at her for ruining your experience, but understand that 7 is always the most likely roll.

I usually swear to myself and get a little pissed off when something like that happens. Then I scold myself for being so stupid and remember it makes no difference at all.

Come out roll is a 2, then a 3, Then another 2. next roll is a 8, then 2, then 3 again.... There is one way to stop this? Do you know how?

Huge faux pas. Something that would make me color up, leave the casino, and make sure someone working at the table understands why. People that bug a craps table like that should be summarily executed.

I tend to dislike playing alone. I have a pretty standard playing strategy that I rarely deviate from and appreciate the slower pace of a table with 3-4 people on each side much more. However, all of the best rolls I have experienced were at small tables.

a few years ago we got a new craps dealer who came with a very cocky(not in a good way) attitude...i discovered one day that he said he could name any hockey player's number from 1960 on if you told him the name. I played along for a few days and then told him I would stump him today. I waited until a very good roll was underway and there was a ton of money on the table. Just as the dice fly, I look at him and go "TIM HORTON"......he screams out "seven" and the dice land, seven out.

hilarity ensued.

I stopped in at one of the downtown Vegas casinos one day for a quick stop at the craps table and it was HOT from the minute I walked up. The third shooter was doing well and I kept increasing my bets. Point was a 6. I had $20 on the pass line and $100 on odds and $30 on the hard 6 plus some numbers placed. I was REALLY hoping for a hard 6. He kept shooting but no 6. Table was loud and fun. Next roll as the shooter throws the dice a guy sticks his hand in to place a late field bet and the dice go off his arm and it's a 7 - of course. HUGE groan from the table and lots of mumbling. Of course if it had been a 6 then not much would have been said but it's the idea that he was so late placing his bet and the dice hit him. Of course it feels like really bad luck.

I colored up over $700 profit in 45 minutes and went to the Golden Nugget for a nice buffet. Sure would have been nice to hit that hard 6!

I actually tell new players to avoid saying "seven" when there's a point. The experienced ones either know or do it on purpose.

I'm so nutty about that number than, when my wife and I went to Vegas, she told me she was packing seven outfits and I made her pack an extra one.

The phrase is 'case in point' for what it's worth. :)

Anywho, as a dealer who regularly deals with don't players who yell every possible combination or phrase pointing towards "seven" all night long ("I grew up on 7th street!" "6 1 and done!" "COME ON, 7!") - yeah it's in poor form, but no, I don't think the word induces some sort of magical seven out. Often someone shooting from the dont's yells 'seven' as soon as they let go of the dice and their rolls go on for several rolls after.

Plus if this girl has no idea what she is doing then she likely didn't realize it's bad to yell these things at you. She probably thought it was GOOD luck or something - the same as people yelling for a hard ten when the 10 is pucked up.

So Did I. Been an advantage play now for 45 years. Of course odds were against me finding a beautiful woman to marry someone so crazy.\
On a sadder note, my marriage to Babs in a parallel universe did end in divorce. DAMN Aceofspades !
