Congrats on taking the leap and moving to Vegas, ZK. At the end of the day it takes balls to gather up your bankroll and make the move, and no one can take that from you. Now, just gotta grind out those hours and not get heated up around town!

...Regarding blackjack today in vegas, i started off horribly, my first shoe, count skyrocketed from the beginning and was down a quick 2500, but recovered nicely and played another shoe right after and ended the session with a quick 300 profit only to lose 100 at caesars, which put me at a +200 for the night.

Were these at the same place? I assume the count skyrocketing in the first shoe would have meant exposing max bets... and you played another shoe after that (no doubt reducing your bet size at the beginning of the next shoe)?? This is the stuff you can get away with in other towns (a little bit more) but if you sully your name in Vegas playing higher amounts without a card can be done, but will make your grind that much more difficult. Also, I would call out amounts and names of places (probably never names of actual places even though we want to know =P).

I didn't play much today as I'm still tired from the long trip and still getting situated. Never again am I driving cross country by myself and its not because I got tired, I stayed at 3 different motels and took my time really, it was just pretty boring, i thought there woulf be a lot more to see even being on the interstate, but all i saw were farms and flatlands.

Gotta ask PokerGrinder how he does it. That man is a driving machine.

Oh and by the way, looks like someone owes Mooseton for betting against me getting to Vegas. Pay up

Cheeky... =). Again, well done. I'll be in Vegas at the end of next month. Perhaps we could grab a beer and talk about your first month in Vegas? I'd love to hear how it goes and provide any feedback/advice if you wanted it.

Autism, really? Lol. I'd be worried about you if you can't tell the difference between anxiety and something like autism. My first big road trip and was carrying a bunch of cash and I didn't know what to expect especially after hearing some of the horror stories. In my opinion, it's normal to ask a lot of questions for something like I was about to go through. Like mooseton said, I just had a bit of apprehension and a lot of anxiety because the last thing I need is having my bankroll seized. Couple that with the fact I do overthink a lot and maybe some of the stuff I was saying or asking was becoming a bit ridiculous, but i was just a bit stressed out.

But I digress. I'm happy to report that I made it all the way across the country. I think others on here were trolling me getting me worked up and got me overly paranoid about the cops. By staying the speed limit and sometimes at most 5 over, nothing happened. Not to mention I only saw 3 cops on my side of the road(westbound) the whole trip. The other times that I saw cops they were waiting on the east bound side. I thought I would've seen a lot more. I didn't even see one cop in the aforementioned corrupt Oklahoma. Once I got through corrupt Tennessee, I had a feeling I was overreacting this whole time before my trip.

Regarding blackjack today in vegas, i started off horribly, my first shoe, count skyrocketed from the beginning and was down a quick 2500, but recovered nicely and played another shoe right after and ended the session with a quick 300 profit only to lose 100 at caesars, which put me at a +200 for the night. 1st day I drove 500 miles. 2nd day 800 miles. 3rd day 800 miles. And half of the 4th day I put in the last 500 miles and got there in the afternoon. 3.5 days to get to vegas and all went pretty well. Only took me $250 in gas and $200 in motels. Now its time to put in the work.

P.S., I did drive the whole way with 23k in my shoes. LOL. I ended up depositing most of it before the trip. By the way, Axel I don't have 68k I had 60k, but after first months rent up front and gas expenses and motels to get here I'm at around 58.5k.

Oh and by the way, looks like someone owes Mooseton for betting against me getting to Vegas. Pay up

Congratulations on your successful arrival and the beginning of your Vegas AP dream. No matter how much shit we give/gave you(I doubt it will be the last time), I really do hope you can find your way and become successful. Just relax, don't go fighting battles you probably can't win, and even if you do, you will probably lose the war.
--------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure why you didn't bet on yourself? I think you missed out on an AP.

-----------------------------------------------------

Oh sorry only 58K. That is 57k more than I had when I stopped working( I didn't even have a car yet.) Obviously, I started playing stuff with big overlays that had almost zero risk. The risk was not knowing how long things would last or what the future would hold.

By staying the speed limit and sometimes at most 5 over, nothing happened.

I usually drive "speed limit +9 mph" if cops might be around. They like to ticket 11-15 mph over (or higher), so 9 mph is to give me a little buffer. Exceptions: (1) Faster cars I can follow (2) passing (3) Everyone driving fast.

Stopped carrying a radar detector...after driving "x+9".

In windy roads, my female friends' target is "2x speed limit - 10" (15 mph posting, drive 20 mph) (35 posted, drive 60).
She's probably a better driver than me. I can usually do 2x-10 on roads I know, but it's too fast for me on new curves.

Ditto. Don't mention Vegas casino names in your posts. Especially, with amount of max bets & spread.

That's why I don't give exact numbers (or post pictures) of jackpots on WoV. Can be easily tracked (especially if you hit something in the last few days). A specific amount like $23,457.36 sticks out. Casino exec might see your post & match to a name.

Large cash outs on tables might remembered. Say $20K-30K instead of $23K.

Thanks romes. Yea i played two shoes with max bet shown twice at the same place and same table. I guess that was already poor judgment and discipline to start off, but i really didnt want to start off my trip down 1k after first shoe(was down 2500 mid shoe) so i played another and left immediately after it and luckily turned a profit.

And that's exactly how people end up chasing losses and then go on tilt. That's among one of the top reasons some of the smartest guys who have made a run at AP ended up going broke.

Well it looks like in my first actual full day of playing, i get rocked for 5k. Just the start i needed. Unreal. Already have to begin to resize my bets. Last thing i need to happen is returning home and being labeled a 'failure' and have people tell me 'i told you so'. Might even consider getting a side job to build this bankroll to 75k in the meantime. Right now at 53k i feel pretty vulnerable considering living expenses now. It was just yesterday i was at home rent free with 60k and a week later after gas and motels across country and a 5k loss im at 53k with recurring expenses.

If one bad loss is going to rock your world this hard then I am sorry to say you don't have what it takes to live this lifestyle. I play poker for a living not BJ but my G-d if I let one bad day shake my whole world I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing. Also your first day worrying about not starting off your "trip" with a loss so you stay too long at one store is insane. First off this isn't a "trip", you moved to Vegas to be a pro this is your life now not a trip. Second the game never ends don't worry about booking a loss one day when technically the game never ends whether it's over one day or a week of "sessions"

I wish you good luck but you need to learn not to be a hot head with authority always proving you're right. You also need to get a better mind set about losses. Just shake them off, if you're playing a winning game you will get there eventually. I've had 10k downswings when the cards aren't falling my way. Guess what I always came out the other side of variance so why worry about it while stuck in the bad variance. Just shrug it off and do what you have to do! Good luck ZK

Something is wrong with this whole thing!? I mean it has been a year now with this whole story!? I lost 27k last week on machines... you don't hear me crying about it to anyone. Actually this is my first mention of it. I am still way ahead for the year. Anyways the point is that you have rent paid for a year, a car, in Vegas etc etc. All you need to do is learn other ways to AP. APing isn't easy as in years past but with 53k your still in great shape and can easily make a living at it but either your story is false or you just want it all too easy. If you really are in Vegas and need some help I have so much comp I can't even use it. I have a hard time believing your real or the whole story but maybe if you didn't whine so much in person I could easily help you with other plays and free food, rooms and what not for some sort of handshake partnership.

Nonsense,

If he blows his bankroll in forty days he's failed.

No, he won't have become a lifetime failure, but he'd have failed at this particular venture, no question.

Well it looks like in my first actual full day of playing, i get rocked for 5k.

Refreshingly honest post.

It is easy to post about big wins ( I've done it, but a big win for me may be chump change for higher rollers ), but less fun to own up to the losses on a forum.

So far this year, I am down a little bit, about $ 40. Mrs Q is down a lot more than that. I'm not surprised, the games we play usually have a house advantage. But we're not down so much that I am concerned.

This is one area where we spend our discretionary entertainment dollars. We both work, have savings, etc, etc. We're both knowledgeable about VP and strategy, although Mrs. Q does play the slots, which I'm not crazy about, but I admit they do earn comps more quickly. As long as both of us play with-in our $ comfort zone, it's all good as far as I am concerned.

We enjoy the perks that come along with "gaming", free hotel nights, free show tickets, etc. We will continue to travel to Vegas as long as the airline fares don't get too unreasonable. They are low enough right now that we have been out for a 3 day weekend.
There's emptiness behind their eyes There's dust in all their hearts They just want to steal us all and take us all apart

I hear what you're saying and understand its just one big session and you shouldn't go crazy win or lose in the short run, but there's always something in the back of my mind regardless if my risk of run is 0.2% or lower I always feel that after a big loss, the math won't correct itself and I will lose my entire roll. The math hasn't failed me yet but now with living expenses I really wanted to get off to a better start. If I can get to 80-90k I could play a lot more freely, but being in the 50-60k range still makes me a bit nervous that the math won't always correct itself in time and that I could end up 20k or lower and having to adjust my bet sizes and then all bets are off. That did happen once actually around the 300-400 hr mark where I lost most of my profit to date and then made it all back and then some.

I lost -17K yesterday & today. Earlier this year I had a -25K loss, made it all back, then had this new loss.

Competition on machines is tougher each year, and progressives are more popular (but have lower edges).
2017 is 104.5% (so far). 2013 was 117.3%.

Vanilla card-counting has a lot of heat....with a low edge. But it's a rite of passage. :-)

There is a reason why they are always hiring. And it has nothing to do with the job. Too many have figured out its worth more than $12 an hour to sit home and get benefits. But it is perfect for someone looking to supplement their other income.

What kind of benefits do you think the government gives to single men? They offer food stamps, but most single guys working at Mcdonalds make little enough to get some. Surely you wouldn't want a single mother taking your infant or young kid to work swinging a sign, would you?
Given a choice of standing in the blazing Vegas sun twirling a sign or sitting home collecting that $194 a month in food stamps, which would you do?

What kind of benefits do you think the government gives to single men? They offer food stamps, but most single guys working at Mcdonalds make little enough to get some. Surely you wouldn't want a single mother taking your infant or young kid to work swinging a sign, would you?
Given a choice of standing in the blazing Vegas sun twirling a sign or sitting home collecting that $194 a month in food stamps, which would you do?

Probably not the place for this debate to keep the thread on topic, but YES I do. I'm in favor of Workfare not welfare. Unless someone is proven mentally or physically disabled they should be contributing to get any benefits. You question is why they shouldn't be give a choice.

My advice for ZK would be to start off with the regular moving stuff. I think there is a fine if you don't get a NV ID within 30 days of moving here so take a trip there. Might as well get what is known as a REAL ID or you won't be able to fly in the USA soon. License plates & registration too. Go to Albertsons or Wallyworld and get some groceries, not too much, but get that out of te way. Read Bob Dancers stuff. Don't spend all day gambling/counting. The ability to go in a casino and not bet a cent on anything is an ability of itself. I'm not much of a talker but I am a drinker! so let me know if you want to grab a drink.

Ditto babs! And speedycrap doesn't have to pay, ZK. He couldn't back up his talk to confirm the bet despite multiple PMs. There was no way I was going to pay 1. when he saw the bet in the thread and did not acknowledge it but conveniently responded to Drich. 2. Despite reading my multiple requests for bet confirmation, he just ignored responding completely. So I've concluded that Speedycrap is just all talk and would recommend others not to bet with him. I think he realized he offered a bad bet(good for me) and really realized when I tried to bet the max (a whopping $100). Realizing that, he decided to go dark on the matter to weasel his way out.

I have met speedycrap. He offered to buy me a lunch and he did so. I would be comfortable betting against him. I don't think he goes on the forums daily.

Was out at Sunset Park with my dog this morning and this company was running a class on sign spinning.
They pay $12 an hour ,after training,and are always hiring.

LOL. You won't admit that was a smart ass suggestion, will you? (I like it).

That's got to be one of the worst most boring jobs ever. It has got to be a miserable job during the summer here.

Is there some a company that recruits, trains them guys, who then gets contracts with businesses? Sounds like there might be some money in doing that.

The impression I got was prospective employees paid a nominal fee for the training and the company supplies the stores with both spinners and the the signs.

... but being in the 50-60k range still makes me a bit nervous that the math won't always correct itself in time and that I could end up 20k or lower and having to adjust my bet sizes and then all bets are off. That did happen once actually around the 300-400 hr mark where I lost most of my profit to date and then made it all back and then some.

The bet resizing to a lower level ... (I've heard)... is the main reason pro BJ teams play 1/4-1/2 Kelly (instead of full Kelly). A bad hit in the beginning can drop your hourly rate to 1/2-1/4, and people might not want to continue. If you lose half your bankroll, now you have to 4X your bankroll to double-up.

I occasionally play full Kelly on one series of slot machines (Prefer 1/4 Kelly), and I'm always a little nervous.

It's why I don't play $25K, $50K, $100K slot progressives.
I don't have the bankroll for full Kelly (much less 1/4 Kelly).

Full Kelly on a $100K might be $5-20 million, depending on competition (start values).
1/4 Kelly on a $100K might be $20-80 million.

Of course, many people/teams are willing to play slot progressives with less money, which is why so many have gone broke (playing 5x-10x Kelly, insane).

Here's some blog posts on 1/2 Kelly & 1/4 Kelly.
http://thehackensack.blogspot.com/2009/11/half-kelly-bet.html
http://www.financial-math.org/blog/2013/10/two-tales-of-the-kelly-formula/

Edward Thorp - "...if you bet half the Kelly amount, you get about three-quarters of the return with half the volatility. So it is much more comfortable to trade. I believe that betting half Kelly is psychologically much better."

Hackensack - "The quarter Kelly bet is even safer. You cut your volatility by a quartic factor while reducing your return expectation by half. For example, you stand only a 6.25% of losing half your money. If you can find enough uncorrelated bets to get all your money invested, you can still invest 100% of your stake with a high safety factor with multiple quarter Kelly bets."

I don't use Kelly. I just make my own custom spread through CVCX and try to get as good of a N0 and ROR as possible. I have about a 13k N0 and 0.3% ROR. My bet sizes are as follows:

TC1 = 2x50
TC2 = 2x100
TC3 = 2x150
TC4 = 2x200
TC5 = 2x250

P.S I lost again today to the tune of 700. What a great start to Vegas. Unreal. Down about 5700 in 12 hours of work. Bankroll is completely depreciating ever since the road trip starting withh the gas to get here, car depreciation, motel stays, and first months rent. Now add the big loss and that 60k is now 52.5k. Just makes me laugh because these losses rarely happen and that it had to happen exactly when I start my quest in Vegas. This is the exact reason why I say I'm cursed in life. Its not even just blackjack, but in so many other things I have gone through so far in this bullshit life. I have to work twice as hard as the next guy just to be even.

It is what it is, it doesn't even bother me anymore, someone has to be that guy. The "1/20 type of guy" for something rare to happen to is me and always has been; oh and by the way, please don't give me the old cliche of "You got to think positive". The only people who believe in positivity and karma etc are people who never had major adversity in their lives. They think life is a bunch of bullshit unicorns and rainbows.

And on a other note, if I see another 6:5 blackjack game being offered I'm gonna start making 100s of flyers and posting it all over the strip telling everyone to stay away from that scam garbage. This is beyond ridiculous, everyone needs to do their part and educating these idiots who continouslly fill up these scam 6:5 tables. Freakin ridiculous
Any private business open to the PUBLIC (ie. droned out casinos) cannot have a criminal trespass enforced against an individual without GOOD CAUSE (Disruptive or Disorderly conduct). You are in you mid twenties, had a college education handed to you, lived off your parents until two weeks ago, never been grocery shopping in your life, have$ 50,000 cash in your pocket and a paid off car and want to complain about how you have to work twice as hard as anyone just to get even.

The problem you overlook is you're stating everything I earned including that 50k+. You're not looking at the fact of how 'much more' I should have. Let's say someone worked 5 million hours in their life and only had 75k to show for it? You think that's fair? That's my point. You can't just label what I have and say that's a given and how lucky I am. I worked for everything I got. Regarding college, if parents never paid for it, I would've never gone anyway. The degree is useless anyway and I wasted 4.5 years of my life for nothing.

With all the work I've put in, any normal person would've had over 100k. Not just talking about blackjack, but all the jobs I've had and saved up etc, you really have to be unlucky to only have 52.5k. It is what it is, that's why I'm the best, no amount of adversity can stop me. I'm used to it. Life wouldn't be fair if I had even half the luck as any other normal person in this world.

Right or wrong, fair or not, I think that having a college diploma is kindof a pre-requisite these days to getting a foot in the door at a company where a career can be started. I am not saying it should be, it just is in many situations..........

So, at least you have that.

People who've worked for everything in life don't think that food comes from the grocery fairy. Because they had to go out and work for money, then use it to buy food, you see. Some of them even have to pay for shelter.

Millions (billions?) of people, do in fact work for less than a dollar an hour. And that work ain't playing blackjack. No, it's not fair. But the person it is unfair to is not you.

Bad luck isn't making less money than you think you deserve while living off your rich parents in a rich country. It's getting terminal cancer when you are six.

If you are a real person, which I still doubt, I guess you are still a fake persona to cover up your real situation. e.g. you've had an extremely easy life of great fortune, and maybe you think this diminshes you for some reason. So you go on tirades about how hard you've had it and how you've worked for everything you've had, like you're some depression era boxer who fought his way out of the train yards.

Accept that you are lucky, rather than unlucky or even "cursed." If you're cursed, what is someone born with horrible birth defects in the rubble of Iraq?

This might be scary, because, if you are a very fortunate person and then fall flat on your face, it makes you feel like a total eff-up. But denial won't change anything. Maybe you are a total eff-up. Plenty of time to fix it.

For example, if you completed a business degree without learning anything that you can apply to the rest of your life, especially running your own business as an AP, then that is not because Zeus threw a lightning bolt at you.

Be happy about your good fortune. Look for ways to make the most of it. You'll get better results than pretending you're unlucky because not enough fell into your lap.

Lastly, post a picture of your hand flipping me the bird in front of a current copy of the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Air traffic control? Do you realize they only hire in segments throughout the year and it could take years for them to get back to you? I remember I applied a while back years ago and never got an answer or maybe I did and it got lost in the mail, who knows. That position is extremely hard to get, regardless of your credentials. There are so few spots with so many people applying and you can only apply in a 2 month burst throughout the year. You can't apply year long.

It used to be you had to take the test before they would consider you. The median pay of an air traffic controller is $122,000 but they punish you by making you stay in Oklahoma City for six months.
