Poll for fun, and to learn things about my fellow WoV members...

The Blackjack ball! Whilst no one there knows I even exist, I still think it would be amazing to attend... To discuss old stories, gambling, odds, and statistics for hours with what I consider legends of the gambling world. What a night it would be. None the less, when we don't go usually someone is kind enough to get the Trivia Questions for the first part of the Grossjean Cup competition and post them online after the ball for us all to have fun and review and try ourselves.

Does anyone have a copy of the questions from this years ball? I always enjoy going through and trying to answer them to see how I would do. I think I got 9 or 10 out of 21 from last years =/. Anyways, I'd greatly appreciate it if someone has them or has access to them would post them! Thanks if you can.

Has anyone on here attended? Did anyone here attend this years?

Obviously Bob Dancer and the Wizard have both participated. Didn't the Wizard get banned from it the year after winning it? Lesson to be learned, don't befriend Shelden Adelson.

I thought the only people to be banned for winning too much was Richard Munchkin and James Grossjean? The Wizard would have to win numerous times before getting banned, and the trivia is only the first half of the competition.

I'd be interested to hear if Mike has gone, how he's done in the trivia and assuming he made it past that (because he loves trivia) the skills competitions...

Mike did definitely win it one year. He was not banned because of winning. My understanding is that he was banned because he went and worked for a casino company.

If I am not mistaken Anthony Curtis was runner up that year too.

How many other individuals do you know that won over $15 million from casinos... especially in a similar time span?

He seems like an obvious candidate to me, and while his contributions may differ from Ed Thorp, they both have a great story to tell about the game.

Yes he did. He abused their front money, loss rebates, and my personal favorite was how he flipped the "malfunction voids all pays" slot machine lingo to the house. I.E. Even if it didn't effect the outcome of the hand, if the dealer did not follow proper procedure he got his bet as a FREE BET from the casino. Imagine getting $50k once or twice a night as a FREE BET. He also had the perfect setup of appearing to be an average player and then getting a team together to train him to be an expert player. Definitely attacked the game from a different angle that I personally couldn't even do.

Not that I'm either Romes or HH, but I didn't realize that. I thought he'd negotiated a loss rebate that ensured a win, then ran good, and kept parlaying both the luck and the br. Shrug. Guess that was his PR guy's spin or something. He wasn't a hero of mine, but kind of disappointed if that's the real story. Not that I don't believe you.

If someone did everything he did, but they ran bad and lost or they bet much smaller amounts, should they be in the BJ HOF?

The amount won shouldn't be a real factor.

If that's the case, perhaps the person that hit Lion Share should be in the slot HOF as well?

That's not true, people have negotiated better percentages for far less money.

Someone could lose if they were to negotiate a monster deal and run bad on the bigger deals that would wipe out all the lessor profits from the lessor deals.

What criteria do you think should be used to get someone in the bj hof?

Do they need to be an innovator, win a lot of money?
Be a consistent long term winner ,even if the dollar amount isn't huge?

As far as I'm concerned, is a useless title. Most AP's go out of their way to remain anonymous. So what good comes from this accolade? Nothing that I can see. I don't need other people's approval or fanfare for what I've done.

I think it needs to be someone that has changed the game in some way. Someone that what they did, stopped the community and drew attention to it. If it's something no one's done before, that's innovative. If they win a larger amount of money than anyone previously in the same time frame, that's pretty astounding.

Don Johnson did all of this and more. He's definitely an appropriate candidate for the HOF, not just because he won a bunch but because of all of the other circumstances that surrounded him too.
