after depositing my bankroll, I lost the remaining bankroll all in one session tonight.

I wouldn't feel bad about this Ahigh. You deposited $3,000 and in the interim you had a lot of fun, didn't you? That's what gambling should be -- fun -- and you had it. You got a few comps along the way, too. You also got to do what you enjoy doing -- playing craps. And you had a few thrills. You got to enjoy life.

I recall with fondness something a few slot floor people once said to me as we were discussing big wins and payoffs: every big payoff to a player is just a short term loan from the casino to the player that will be repaid with interest.

And that's pretty much true. Sure there are a few (a very few) who can claim to be consistent winners or get lucky and hit some mega jackpot that keeps them in the plus column for a long time, but the rest of us should look at the game -- all games -- as a chance to have a thrill and to realize we have to pay for it along the way.

And you will be back to play again. You will start with a new bankroll, or maybe you'll just dip back into that $3K you deposited. You might win, you might lose. But if you can, at the end of the day, say you enjoyed yourself then nothing else matters. When gambling isn't fun anymore, then you shouldnt gamble.

Thanks for the kind words, Alan.

Kelly has been very supportive of me, and she had been encouraging me to bet bigger. I did bet more than single odds right off the bat and the first $500 went pretty quick as a result on regular craps.

But I told her yesterday in a text message that I wasn't ready to bet bigger and I didn't want to lose it at the table, and that is why I deposited it. So I did the right thing, except that I should have stuck with single odds instead of being more agressive with a smaller bankroll.

I need to focus more on work. This play in the casino has become a real time consumer. I'm beyond even my regular insane schedule of playing craps. I am posting on this forum way too much and I am spending way too much time playing craps at the casino.

I only have a couple hundred bucks per paycheck allocated to myself for spending/gambling money, so it might even be a couple of months before I have another four figure bankroll.

It's just break time for me.

Let me make this suggestion: use my new "craps betting strategy" and go to a casino with the fire bet. Bet the passline minimum and bet the fire. If you're good -- or if your lucky -- you can make big money with a minimum initial outlay. Anyone who believes that they are a DI should savor this invitation to make big money. There are casinos where the passline is $10 with a $10 max on the fire.

Not a bad suggestion, but I'm still not ready to bet the fire bet. Most of the tables I prefer to play don't even have fire bets, but that's a great suggestion, and thanks.

So then, does that mean you won't be shooting craps with us at CR after lunch at Sugar Factory at WoVCon later this month?

So sell some bitcoins/gold/silver or whatever else
you have investments in. You have the edge at

No I sold my BitCoins a few days ago and I started the process to get them to my checking account today.

I still have about $800 cash of discretionary funds left, and all my bills and credit cards are paid off. Just the phase of carrying around $2,000 to $4,000 in cash is over. I can still do buy-ins for $100 to $300.

Right now I'm waiting for MtGox to approve my wells fargo routing and account number for withdrawing money. I have $490 US cash in MtGox from $280 I started with.

If you're just flat betting craps, why would you
need to carry that much cash. Its silly.

I was going up and down four figures flat betting on 10x tables with a come bet on every roll. I covered every corner I made from $3200 to $3500 to $2200 to $4000. Flat betting the come bet with max odds requires a bankroll is the short answer. And after I reduced to $1,000 my bankroll wasn't big enough. Not complicated, and you can see the swings in my charts. Even flat betting with 10x odds with a slight edge, $1 per roll profit is about all I expect to get in return for the rollercoaster ride of minimum edge with 10x odds on a $5 table.

https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/big-wins/13896-up-four-figures-in-craps/2/#post240306

The only difference between what happened last night losing and what happened a few days prior is that I didn't have the bankroll to swing down and back up over $1,000 like I did at the Plaza and Las Vegas club TWICE in TWO HOURS.

On the roller-coaster ride pictured above, I even lost a little bit, but not that much if you count the comp.

You do know about 10x max odds on flat betting and the volatility there, right? I'll be honest with ya, this is not my normal style. I typically grind up on very low volatility and mathematical house edges closer to 0.4% to 0.5% per roll for each bet I take (not much odds, just placing the 8 mostly).

Even if I *was* playing with an advantage throw, I still have to have the bankroll to employ the level of odds I'm trying to use to maximize my long term profit. Short term losses are just part of the way that it is done. Maybe the Wizard or someone else can explain more if you don't understand. It's a pain though. Tough to keep your emotions in check.

You just fell in love with the euphoria of winning easy cash and wanted more. Lesson learned. If you are playing with an edge, Boymimbo has some great advice. Of course, the more you practice the less easy the money. Also, if you're not playing with an edge, all that practice is a waste of time. Focusing more on work and your family may be a better investment. As for the frustrating part, see Teddys' tagline. Btw, where is that guy?

Spoken like someone who knows more succinctly. Yeah, I saw Teddy go through what I'm going through. The bankroll needs of a low math edge can be a real bitch. Also making emotional decisions can derail things too. I have seen Teddy get emotional too. So far I have not gotten emotional. When I lost last night I very politely told the boys, "thanks very much I had a lot of fun."

It was a 4-hour non-stop session with a come $10 come bet every single roll on an empty table. I was shooting about once every 7 to 10 seconds! I'm pretty sure it was more than 1,000 rolls.

It's a tough game to beat and I wasn't giving up and it got me!!!

My wife met me for lunch and she was amazingly supportive. She was the one encouraging me to bet bigger and I was the one who decided to lock up the $3,000 instead of risking it all on the tables.

A typical response where you just pull some crap out of your butt that you have no idea about. She absolutely wants me to go for it MORE not less. She is absolutely my biggest fan. Without question!!!

All of my finances are in order. And I can always pull my 401k holding back which are currently set at 40% from all my wins pushing my bills out until the fall.

That's a lot of money for legal fees, Ahigh, are you some kind of millionaire with millions of dollars in dispute? I think divorce #2 cost me about $3,500 (fees) total. However, it could have cost a lot more. This is from my forum when we were discussing Dancer's divorce:

During the looooong drawn out trial with ex #2 (a marriage that lasted about 3 years) her "Hollywood divorce lawyer" made the outrageous claim that I had hidden bank accounts in Nevada and secret cash accounts in Nevada casinos and subpoenaed every bank and casino in the state looking for the loot. I was presented a bill for the "discovery" in the range of $18,000 and I said "there are no secret accounts and I am not paying the bill." And I said in court if you find one secret account I will pay the bill. There was no secret account. I did not pay the bill.

Marriage really is a negative expectation game. Most
divorces are filed by women, look it up. They're very
good at pretending everything is great right up until
you get served the papers. I don't care how good a
relationship looks, you can never really know whats
in their minds.

I never get no respect from my wife. She's got
me down to having sex twice a month. But thats not the
worst of it, she cut two other guys off completely..

I tend to agree with Ahigh, It's just break time for me. When I'm losing $3000.00 in one session in the name of recreation that's when you know it is time to take a break. Myself, I echo Ahighs' sentiment. I went to my usual waterin hole today only to find out that they have changed out the guts on many of the vp machines I played that had the only hope of a decent pay back and the rest had been moved to an inconspicous place in the casino that one would not think to look. I get so discouraged at times. Seems no one was really in the house and yet they screwed up on my reservation only to find out that they screwed with my EV machines which meant I barely was able to milk out my freeplay or bounce back. Sad state so I like Ahigh think, It's just break time for me. Needless to say I told the house to stick and cancel my reservation, screw it I drove home.

Wait a minute, 40% of your pay is great, but, and I am guessing here, you make good money. At that rate you will hit your 2013 401k cap of $17.5k soon, or already have. A better bet in the 401k is to put the exact, or close enough percentage to hit the $17.5k on your last check, your company will match the 6% or whatever they do each check.

Just my opinion.

BTW I have had comments now and then for AHigh, but I truly enjoy the stories. Keep it up.

My employer matches a flat $750 each year, and I max'd that out pretty quick. I'm not missing any matching. I have about 7 weeks of earnings before I max out my 401k for the year. I have my mortgage payments paid in advance through September in addition to the principle payments. So around June I will start getting regular paychecks again but not have a house payment until mid September.

My big wins thread got shut down from too many people bickering and things going off topic. So I guess this is as good a place as any to report I'm up $200 in the last 24 hours with no losing sessions. I met with AxelWolf last night, and while we didn't win much, we squeaked out a little bit at the Plaza ($50). I won $60 at Mandalay Bay at lunch in about ten minutes, then I won $60 at Jerry's Nugget. Then I won $30 at Lucky Club, and I liquidated a $15 coupon and got $8 for that at Fiesta Rancho (my little boy was playing Hockey tonight at Fiesta and I didn't have time to play, just liquidate the coupon).

My BitCoin $500 is coming back. AxelWolf and I tried to find an empty table and didn't have much luck until about 11:30 last night. But we played from 11:30 to about 12:45 and went down $200 and back up $250 or so. Axel was having me call the shots, and I wanted to lock in a win. I've been trying to be happy with smaller wins. I went down a couple hundred at Mandalay Bay today too, so it was a little concerning given my bigger loss recently. But it turned out alright. I've been betting more free odds and there's just a roller coaster ride in that play strategy that I'm still getting used to, but I think the longer term trends are starting to sink in with me and I'm warming up to it slowly. But grinding $5 with 345x with a come bet on every roll is what I generally try to do when I am confident. And if I lose confidence or if I see a good enough profit, I will remove my odds and just try to relax until I feel less stressed and ready to go for it again.

That is not the way it works.... If you are any good at control, you will repeat certain numbers, Like for me it is 6 & 8. I have had
many rolls with 4,5,6,7,8 pass line winners and never came close to the 5 point fire bet. I have also hit the 5 point a number of times,
but never when my throw was on , always when i am terrible and completely random.

Now there is no question you could keep changing sets, but certainly would mess up the bets you already have working. It is
hard enough to win by just trying to repeat numbers , without thinking you can hit any number you want.

Sorry, dicesitter, I don't believe in "control." I believe there is a chance that if you keep your dice on axis and limit the amount of rotations (spins) they make there is a chance you can limit the possibilities that the dice will show, but that is not "control."

You guys who can "control" the dice are in a league of your own. I'm just a mere mortal. And the FEW times I hit five or six fire bet numbers it was amazing luck... like hitting a royal flush almost.

If you want to argue semantics, even random shooters technically control the dice, Alan. That's what they do when they pick 'em up and shoot 'em!

I think it's pointless to constantly argue about terms. You can't use the terms "DI" or "control" or "dice control" or "controlled shooting" and have people think consistently about what you're talking about. Even if a proper definition was made, you still can't. There are just too many people playing dice that all think the same and wrong way about it. This even includes you, Alan.

One of the more interesting aspects of the game of craps is the culture of african american players. They snap their fingers. They even grunt when they snap their fingers in a consistent way.

They say "come on dice" sometimes. Sometimes they say "tway-elve" from the horn or field bets.

Being consistent and having definitions or in the case of what I collectively call "finger snappers" (a term that SuperRick gave me) doesn't mean that you have a way to play the game that lets you win more. It just means you have a culture of people who play the game the same way and have similar thoughts when they play the game.

I don't use those terms in general, except in response to others who use the terms. But I don't go around telling people things like "I'm a DI" expecting them to know the acronym, much less expecting them to have a concept of what I'm talking about. I think it's actually a little bit ridiculous to expect people at a craps table to know much at all except how to smile and have fun and just socialize; hopefully not getting into a fight.

Alan, you seem to be one of the more argumentative type people I know on this forum, and I would expect you would be just as head-strong at the table. Sometimes the less you say and the better your results the more fun the game gets, and you don't have to even talk about control or not. Nobody cares if it's random or not. They just like winning money. Even if you snap your fingers and play like a finger snapper, they will happily enjoy your company.

Maybe just not argue so much about definitions and enjoy the game, buddy.

Shame that I can't get a hold of them, but there was a Detroit dice dealer outfit that sold t-shirts that said; "After 2 AM, it's all field bets and finger snaps!" Wear that to a craps table and brighten up the dealers attitudes!

Dice control has to be real, look at this:

Of course you would know how I am at the tables if you had come over and said hello to me at Caesars instead of avoiding me. And you would know how I am personally if you ever accepted a dinner invitation from me, or even met up with me to play craps. So far you haven't.

Am I head strong? You betcha, especially when I see ridiculous claims and statements made.

I never knew what this term "finger snappers" was. Should I add it to the list of racial slurs?
