Every casino game has some fanatic who claims they have a system for beating it, but they get awfully quiet when it doesn't work. What are some funky voodoo systems you have personally heard while gambling?

Bac dude: "You see the chart shows PPP then going back to B for one hand, so bet according to the streak and you'll win. I won't bet it because I already colored up."

Bac lady: "You play bank now!"

BJ randoms: "Always take even money. Bird in the hand yada yada yada."

VP randoms: "Never play on a machine that already hit a royal earlier."

Slot randoms: "Vary your bet sizes, small for when you don't feel it, and big when you think you're going to win."

Nah, you vary your bet sizes to fool the machine into paying more than it intended.

I always hear on the sucker bets, "That's where you make the money". I also heard a crazy crazy craps scheme on a table on a cruise. It was the longest most complex thing ever, not sure why I listened, but I don't remember it either.

And while trying to reply I accidentally hit flag post, it was a my fingers are too fat for my iPhone. Apologies.

The craziest one I know of is how certain deluded craps players think they can actually control / influence the outcome of their dice throw.

Other than that, I shake my head at the old women who constantly touch and talk to the slot machine they're playing on.

Saw a gal last weekend at Three Rivers casino on the Oregon coast; she talked nonstop, like a crazy woman, and her hands constantly moved over the face of the slot game.

I think she really was crazy.

Then you haven't read gr8player's posts...lol

He's been going on and on and on for SEVEN years now about how he "overcomes" the House Edge at baccarat by varying the size of his bets & managing his money properly. And if you try to use math to support your position, he will simply tell you that even though YOUR math gives the edge to the house, HIS math gives the edge to him. Then, if you ignore the guy, he'll continue to go on and on and on until you go nuts!

In roulette, there are three.

1. If you win on an inside number, leave the orig
bet there because the number will probably hit
twice in a row.

2. Always bet the zeros because those are the 'house
numbers' and it really pisses off the casino when
you win on them. This is also known as insanity.

3. The two most popular numbers to bet are 17
and 20. Many people believe they come up far more
than any of the other numbers. It's because they're
in the very center of the layout and it makes logical
sense. Never mind they are nowhere near each other
on the wheel, it would take actual thinking to figure
that out.

Don't joke, at the old O'Sheas they actually encouraged the people to double on "blackjack" because a natural only pays 6/5. Obviously the blackjack then only becomes an 11.

For the smarter guys than me, what effect does this play have on the adjusted HE (adjusted for a game with a 6/5 payout on BJ anyway).

it depends on what dealer cards you double against.. but you are giving up an EV of ~1.10 for an EV of around ~0.10-0.50 depending on the dealers face up card. (https://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/appendix/1/)

if you did that versus any dealer up card you'd be giving up an EV of ~1.10 for an EV of ~0.35.. That is a ~0.75 difference.. about 5% of hands are blackjack. So you end up with about -3.75% HE from that play and the mistake cost you on average 0.75 units every time you do it.

Thanks, that is what I intuitively thought when hearing about the play but I needed some verification.

About 20 years ago I was installing some player tracking equipment in slot machines in Biloxi. While I am working I strike up a conversation with this older black woman playing the machine next to me. She was dressed nicely and wearing white evening gloves while feeding dollar tokens into the machine. I asked her if she was wearing gloves to keeps her hands clean from the tokens and she said "no, everybody down here knows the machines pay off better to white people than black people so I wear the gloves to fool the machine." Sadly, she was completely serious.

Am I interpreting this right though?

Soft 21 against a 6 in a 6:5 game.
Stand: EV: 1.2 units
Double: EV: 0.667 x2 = 1.334 units

So less EV per dollar, but since you have more out there, it seems you would actually benefit in the long run.

I may well be interpreting this wrong, please tell me if I am.
