Has anyone here played at Southland Gaming in West Memphis Ark? They have greatly expanded the casino. I read a report that stated they took in more revenue in 2016 than all the Tunica casinos combined. Just wondering if anyone has played there and what your thoughts where about it.

That's the only casino in the country where I've ever been nervous walking in the parking lot. I would walk out of poker palace in a suit made of $100 bills before I would visit southland again.

I've only been there once and don't recall exactly when (Edit: Checked, and it was in July 2012), but it was more than five years ago. I specifically went to collect a souvenir chip and discussed my visit here in the casino chip of day thread. At least back then, the table games were strictly electronic.

It's not that bad lol. I've seen more security guards there than any property I've been to though. Don't know if that's good or bad lol.

Once, but seemed ok. You have to remember though, I'm used to downtown Detroit. 😉

That's misleading because Arkansas calculates revenue differently. The numbers were mentioned in this July article:

http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/money/2017/07/29/west-memphis-gambling-tunica/504383001/

"Bets topped $2.7 billion last year at Southland Park Gaming and Racing, surpassing the $634 million wagered at Tunica's eight casinos."

But then a week later, the author corrected himself:

http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/money/2017/08/05/casinos-memphis-nows-time-push-gambling-halls/529038001/

"While Southland reports more than $2.7 billion in wagers, according to the metric used in Arkansas, Barber estimates the comparable number for Tunica using the Arkansas metric would be about $7.4 billion."

They had a really dirty casino when I was there 2.5 years ago- it was all electronic games and the crowd was tough not to mention a lot of the Vp buttons were beyond awful and broke - I walked out without even scouting much
No longer hiring, don’t ask because I won’t hire you either

That was the figures I seen. I tried to go back and look it up again but I couldn't find it the second time. I thought that was a little unbelievable that Southland was that far ahead of all the Tunica casinos. The second figure makes more sense.

They have had a multi million dollar remodel since then. Most of the machines are new. They have very few VP machines left.

No, I haven't played there. It's possible I walked through once when visiting Memphis/Tunica, but it must not have been memorable. That would have been before the expansion though.

We were there last year to collect a chip and get dinner as we drove home from new Orleans. I wanted to gonto the buffet because they had lobster but the line was about 3 hours long. Instead we ate at sammy hagars. The food was really good. We shared a large nachos platter and some southern BBq and also sweet tea. I didn't get a vibe that it was dangerous but it was around 4 pm too.

Why were you nervous? I mean I was there mid-day but I didn’t think anything of it. Nobody bothered me. Did something happen when you were there?

Been there once when they used to offer $20 FP to all new members (now "up to" $500). It's definitely not in the greatest of areas, but seems okay during the day at least... I would definitely like to hear rdw's experience though.

My understanding is that he has finished the novel and is collaborating on the screenplay, with a tentative contract for the film rights.

Yeah. The hard part is condensing the content to fit in one 2 hour time frame:-)

Looking back, I'm sure it was a circumstance that could have happened anywhere. I cashed out and a guy followed me from the cage to the parking lot. No big deal, except that he followed me from literally the cage to exactly my car. And, two different groups who were already in the lot met the guy 5 feet from me right at my car. And, the lights by us were burned out. That was all quite frightening at the time. Nothing happened and I left without incident. But that was unsettling.

I certainly understand you being nervous in that situation. I would be to. Good news is there are lots of security now and all the parking lot lights have been replaced and are working.

i mentioned this stop in my blog a few months back, when on the road trip between detroit and biloxi with Ray. Google TBC blog to grinding low stakes poker.

i was about the only white guy in there, it made my driver uncomfortable, but the days inn outside by the week looked safe and cheap. the place for about $100 less per week 2 blocks up didnt. but we stayed for $70 per night in a different hotel 1 night only with indoor hallways, just to feel safe. ive wasted lots of money needlessly on hotels i cant afford to not worry about home invasions.

we tried to play poker but there was NO game upstairs in the electronic poker room even on a weekend night. they told us to come monday and wed for sure there would be $1-2 PLO8 going which i wouldve loved to play. i might have the days wrong.

i mainly wanted to check out the 4 different video BJ dealers angels machines. though like all dealers angels, they dont shuffle til they deal out 80 cards out of 4 decks instead of every hand like the sucker BJ machines do, they will not shuffle u when theyre shuffling like they do at the hoover dam, so the one at hoover dam is the only good one. ellis island really had a good one with the players cards and promotion til they removed it.
