We went back to Ocean Casino to get a replacement for our Black Card and were told that we are no longer eligible for Black Card status. We originally qualified because they honored Hard Rock’s Rock Royalty Card. Since the time we got the Black Card we didn’t find the time to use Ocean’s much. So they demoted us! We would have made an attempt to use it if there was any hint from them that it was in peril.
So here is what we think…Ocean Resort Casino will likely be the next casino to close, before Bally’s. Which was the coconscious till now, unless the purchase by MGM sparks some interest in saving Bally’s after they buyout Caesars Entertainment .
But back to Ocean… Their website is useless as far as a loyalty card information source. They never offered any comped rooms like Hard Rock or established a website to inform their card holders as to any inducements to come there to play. A bit of free slot play would have been nice or a show or promotion or two. If they think that the beach is going to draw people they are badly mistaken. The summer season here is, at most, 12 weeks and the beach in front of the casino is only about 30 feet wide. Another nail in the coffin is, it is the northern most casino on the boards and the now defunct Show Boat is between it and the newly (5 billion dollar) renovated Hard Rock. Too bad because it is a beautiful building (the second tallest in NJ I’m told) and interior is impressive.

Yea, they are making many of the same mistakes Revel did. And on weekdays it looks like the Revel did being a ghost town. The October numbers will show as much I believe.

I don't know where to start with this (even though it reads like it's written in troll). Let's go backwards. One, HR spent $500 million, not $5 billion. Thirty feet wide may be hyperbole, but it has zero to do with anything as the entire boardwalk leans on the summer season. I am in a tad of agreement with the website, but A) they've been open for just over five months and B) the list of properties without web access to offers is kinda long. Yes, Hard Rock has the info up there, but saying it's serviceable is being nice. Offers disappear, you can't book anything, etc.

Now to the main part. It was noted very early on, including up to when you actually got your card, that status would expire at the end of September AND how many points were needed to maintain it. They offered 3X and 6X tier point multipliers up to that time. Not only that, they reviewed play and adjusted status where needed. Not their fault.

So. Yeah.

Ocean wouldn’t tier match me, they said they ended the promotion. Hard Rock still had the promotion going though.

Guess where I played?

Ocean was completely empty. Hard Rock was packed, even though I didn’t care for it much.

I never visited Revel, but I will say Ocean was the most beautiful casino I’ve ever been in. But I fear they are going to suffer the same fate as Revel.

I tier matched at Ocean in September. I played a lot that day (maybe $70k on slots and video poker). They were running a tier point multiplier. At the end of the day I was at around 22k tier points (black is 75k). I went back in October and the lounge said I needed a new card with an expiration date. I went and got it and I was still black. I've played 3-4 times since then, each more than the time before and the tier credits really slowed down. I think I'm around 25k. I really don't care about tier levels but the lounge is decent.

I'm rooting for Ocean. I hope they do well. I think they kind of started slow. People are funny. They like Hard Rock cause it's the cool place to go but they have almost no promotions. Ocean has a lot of promotions. I don't know, that's what I go for. I guess others don't.

Also, Ocean's lounge perqs for Premier Black members are more generous than are CET's for Total Rewards Diamond members.

I've heard this as well, might venture over to see how generous they really are.

I did happen to go to Hard Rock last night and play for a few hours. I was literally shocked that EVERY BJ table was $25 or more and full to boot. I thought the WWE live event would bring in a less affluent crowd to the tables, but it was the same Saturday night regulars with some tourists.

Pros:
1) Drink Service was EXCELLENT and they have young, attractive waitresses now instead of the "seasoned" ones that worked at Taj.

2) The place was very bright, colorful and more spacious than before. Very easy to get around or see where slots and table games are.

3) Newer slot machines and multiple ticket redemptions are a HUGE improvement. Previously Taj had 2 or 3 Redemption machines scattered about, and most of the time they were out of order leaving long lines.

Cons:
1) Strange rules for non-card members such as A) You can only play one hand at a Table game without a card (I've seen it before at Borgata & Caesars). But I would hope they would not be so anal about having a player's card to be treated equally.

2) Getting refused a color up for $1200 in Green and Red Chips. Their reason was because I pulled them out of my pocket and they don't want chips from a different table. But the truth was the chips were all from the same table and I was merely ratholing until things went South. (The cashier didn't mind all the green and red, even though I told her "They refused to give me black and purple chips, sorry!")

3) Saw a LOT of the same dealers from before when Taj was going under and they were bad mouthing everything from the management to the customers! I've posted here before about Taj dealers such as Miserable Mike and Whiny Anthony, I couldn't believe they were given jobs at Hard Rock. But I guess tenure overrules good behavior and they'll be around for a while!

Hi - it's been a while - life gets so busy sometimes you can't even find time in the day to check out this awesome forum.

Just an update or two for the Hard Rock:

1. Surrender is no longer offered on ANY BJ game. A few months ago they took that option off of the main floor and it was available just in HL, now it's completely gone (unless you have pre negotiated rules due to credit line or FM.)

2. CSM's were removed and replaced by 8 deck hand shuffled games. Apparantely, they weren't holding enough to warrant the leasing costs from SHFL.

3. "Express Bet" coupons given to table games players now have new restrictions for roulette. 1-18, Even or Red are the only places the coupons may be bet on. Previously you could place them on any even money bet OR any 2-1 bet (dozens, columns). That was a good deal, and didn't expect that to last as long as it did.

4. Free slot play cannot be used in the Interblock Stadium any more. That one died a while ago (right before the New Year) but was sweet while it lasted.

5. You no longer have to earn a comp dollar before redeeming any gift they may send. Apparently that made a lot of players upset. I didn't think it was that big of a deal as $100 coin in = 1 comp dollar which is generous.

I'll try to come back more frequently and update this thread on any new developments.
