I was recently playing in a casino in London where they offer the Egalite total side bets, initially these seemed like a really good bet due to seemingly high winning odds;

0=150-1
1=215-1
2=225-1
3=200-1
4=120-1
5=110-1
6=45-1
7=45-1
8=80-1
9=80-1

What is the house edge for each of these bets? Are they as good as they seem?

For those who may not know, this is a side bet on baccarat tie of exactly the spacific number.

2=-0.095322
3=-0.105148
4=-0.121419
5=-0.118771
6=-0.11496
7=-0.0639
8=-0.110701
9=-0.106327
House edge ranges from 6.39% for the 7 to 12.45% on the 0

I looked it up on the Wiz's main site. There was only one hit, for a PDF: Rules of casino games in Great Britain

In that 88 page document, there are only four references for 'Egalite':
Quote:

A player who has accepted the shoe may elect to wager on Egalit้ (a tied hand) only.

Quote:

Winning wagers on Egalit้ shall be paid, as a minimum, odds of 8 to 1.

Quote:

If the two hands are of equal merit, the wagers on punter and banker shall be void and the wagers on ‘Egalit้’ shall win and be paid, at a minimum, odds of 8 to 1.

Quote:

Players do not need to place a standard wager on either the player, the banker or Egalite, in order to place a Dragon Bonus side wager.

It's interesting that the rule book doesn't have any description of the bet.

It's also interesting that the minimum payoff is only 8:1 while the casino Jerry found is paying 45:1 minimum.

I get the feeling that the 8:1 is for ANY tie...

Correct. You get paid 8:1 on ANY Tie (the tie bet). You get paid more odds based on the bonus bet.

I agree exactly! Great work Miplet, as usual. I just added this to my baccarat page.

Why would the 6 and 7 which both pay 45-1 (this differs in various casino's) indicate a different house edge. Also any casino offering this "super egalite payout" bet, must pay the normal Tie at 9-1.

The frequency of a tie on 6 is different than the frequency of a tie on 7. The player is not making a single "egalite" wager that pays according to the indicated pay table. Instead, the point of this side bet is that the player can make separate wagers that "there will be a tie on 6" and "there will be a tie on 7" and so on. They are not required to make any other wager in order to make an egalite wager.

The normal Tie bet pays "8-to-1" or "9-for-1", I have never heard of "at 9-1".

I was lazy and used the rounded probabilities in the second table instead of the actual combinations in the first table from here. Aren't 6 decks more common in the UK where this bet is offered?

I think we (UK) use 8 deck for Baccarat and 6 for Blackjack.

No problem.

What I am wondering is how the documentation lists numbers that are so very different from ours. I match the numbers for Super Pay Egalite using 8 decks. When I do the math for UR Way egalite with 8 decks, the numbers are very different.

Math given here at U.K. Casino table games
