Las Vegas Sports Betting Survey

Introduction

There is a lot to consider when choosing a sports book to bet at. If you plan to watch the games where you bet, then the comforts of the sports book should be important. However, if you are one to bet and run, then it is the competitiveness of the odds that should be your priority. I think a good measure of the generosity of the sports book is the comp percentage in their player reward program, parlay odds, and teaser odds. This page shows what the various sports book families do in these areas.

Before going further, while there are about 100 casinos in the Las Vegas area, there are only about 15 families of sports books. Casinos within the same family will share lines and can thus be treated equally in terms of their generosity. I keep a list of the different families, and which casinos are members of each, at my companion site Wizard of Odds. This page also assumes the reader already knows common sports betting terminology, like parlay and teaser. If this is not the case, please read my page on sports betting first.

Comp Rebates

Sports betting is a low-profit affair compared to other casino games, so most sports books offer only a small percentage of the total amount bet on sports in the form of comps, if anything at all. The profit margin on race bets is higher, so they can afford to be more generous in that area. The following table shows what the various sports book families pay. For sports betting, the rebate indicated is for straight bets. Sometimes a higher percentage is paid for exotic bets like parlays and teasers. Likewise, the racing percentage is based on win, place, and show bets. Exotic wagers, with a higher takeout, like exactas and trifectas, may pay more.

The Hilton has the highest sports rebate at 0.45% (or $1 in comps for every $220 bet) and thus wins the award for the best rebates.

Notes:

* Leroy's rebate is 0.01% on sides, totals, and money lines; 0.2% on teasers and parlay cards, and 1% on off the board parlays and round robins.

Parlays

Parlays are a common bet in the sports book. The following table is for parlays off the board, where each pick the player is laying 110. As an aside, except the 3-team parlay, the player can usually get better odds by mixing in at least one event that does not have -110 odds, like a money line wager.
