I thought Cal Neva's side bet was top of the deck blackjack, where if the first hand was a bj for the player it paid something and if both the dealer and player had it it paid something.

How about this: Super 8: If the players first two cards total eight or less (excluding soft) it pays 8x!

I sound a bit like the Blackjack Side-Bet Shortie.

What exactly is a Shortie? When your first 2 cards score 9 or lower (Ace=1), you have a shortie. For example, if your first 2 cards are [2,7], [A,A] or [A,8], you have a Shortie; [3,8], [5,5] and [a,9] are not.

If you have made the Shortie side bet before the game starts and you have a shortie, you will win a bonus right away. There is more. After you have won the first Shortie payout, this side bet is added to your original Blackjack bet and you could win again.

Yes, I played Shortie at WinnaVegas, Iowa. It's been there for a long long time.

Here is my Blackjack Side-Bet: Blackjack-Block® or Block.

The Block bet is based on the player's first two cards and the dealer's up card. As of this writing (Nov. 2011) it can be found in South Africa, Egypt, Latvia, Estonia, Ireland, and Morocco. The bet wins if the dealer's up card matches the suit of one of the player's cards, and the player's card is higher. There are higher pays if the player's cards are a pair, suited, or both.

Won't happen. Casino operators like side bets, and enough players play them.
You do see a few tables that are BJ only.
Sure they do. Anything to rape the civilians wallets faster than ever.
