OK Folks how should I go about this.

My wife and I stay in Las Vegas during our March break which is March 12th to the 16th in 2012. We've stayed at the Wynn a number of times and they send me discount room offers. The latest offer gives $139/night rooms, but it ends on Feb 27, 2012. We would like to stay Sunday to Thursday, but the price jumps to $269/night in that period. I'd be much happier if it was $139/night. 8-)

Do I have any chance to call them up and get them to extend the offer to into March for me? Who should I call -- promotions where this offer is from or some sort of casino host? I've never had a dedicated casino host since I'm no high roller. Someone else?

What's the best way to proceed?

Do indeed ask them, and see what they can do. If they say yes, great, if not, you made an effort.
Know that the casino host has to give priority to high-rollers. Try promotions - if they have something good, you may catch it.

Definitely ask. I'd say start with a host IF you already have any sort of relationship with one. If you don't really have a host sure start where you can with the special offers that may be applicable at that time but if you make little headway there, email or telephone a host and await a prompt decision. Hosts cater to high rollers but you may be "higher" than you think.

Why not look at other properties? If you have played enought at Wynn, the room should be free. From the offer listed, you are not eligible for a low rate during high reservation time, but it never hurts to ask. Even with a little play you should be getting free rooms at Caesars or MGM properties as most players do. If you are set on Wynn, understand the standard is higher and your choices are either to play or pay.

Thanks for the replies folks. I'll try promotions and see what they say and then move on to the casino host if nothing happens with promotions.

As for my play, it's nothing big. $15-30 per hand of blackjack, but usually not more than a couple hours a day. Some $0.25 video poker, again a couple hours a day. I play some craps too, but I've only played once at the Wynn as it was $10 minimum at the time. I usually just walk down the street and play $3/$5 craps at Casino Royale instead. I understand this level of play won't get me much at strip properties, but that's fine. I'm happy to get the discount room offers, but I wish they lined up better with the times we want to go.

I've stayed at Caesars twice and once we had a nice room at the Forum Tower, but the second time we got a very old room in one of the central towers and it wasn't very nice. We stayed at Harrah's once and the Golden Nugett as well. My wife likes rooms at the Wynn and it's location.

Expedia.ca has rooms at the Cosmopolitan for $169/night so if I can't get a deal at the Wynn I'll probably book that instead.

I'll let folks know how it turns out. Thanks!

I can't speak from personal experience, and this trick might not work today, but the self-confessed "dominant force in gambling today" lays out how he did it, back in the day:

OOPS!!!! I just noticed that convention was for March of 2011. Does anyone know an up to date Vegas Convention Schedule website?

Certainly the usual surge in room rates for March Madness may apply!

Oh crap. Usually the Canadian March break lines up with the tournament selection and not the actual tournament. However it looks like the first round plays the 13th and 14th of March. Am I doomed to higher hotel prices even though it's only the first round?

Hi Folks,

So here's how things turned out. I called the 1-800 number listed with the latest promotion and gave them my player card #. They were very nice and said that the only thing they could do was give me the promotion I was offered -- which doesn't work for me because it's not during the time I want to go. They then said they could transfer me to marketing to ask them. At marketing, I was given the same story with much more of a "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" feel to it.

So then I e-mail the Wynn and they reply that they don't give room quotes out over e-mail and re-directed me to use their website and the promotion I was originally sent.

I then replied that I'd stayed at the Wynn serveral times previously and that I hope they would reward my loyalty with a discount room offer and that Expedia.ca had rooms at competitors like the Cosmopolitan (and the Venitian) for $100 less per night than the Wynn. I got nothing back and so I went ahead and booked the Cosmopolitan. Vote with your dollars.

Congratulations! I'm glad you stuck to your word. I would actually reply with a follow up email afterwards and explain why they lost your business on this trip. Explain that you are on a gambling forum where your experiences from this trip have been relayed and you'll be sure to express your disappointment. It won't get you anywhere, most likely, but the company has the right to know and maybe fix it for the future.

Agreed 100%. It is your choice and Las Vegas offers many options. Being loyal to one company has its benefits, but also has its drawbacks. The Cosmo wants gamblers and if your play is good, they will want you back free of charge.

Hey Folks,

Thanks for the replies. One footnote to this story. I looked today and lo and behold expedia.ca has Cosmopolitan rooms for about $40/night cheaper than when I booked previously. I called up Expedia and asked them about their price protection guarantee and got some song and dance about it only being for packaged vacations (hotel+flight). Whatever. I then asked how much a cancellation would cost me. They said it would cost nothing. So I went ahead and cancelled and re-booked.

Then the Empire struck back -- I book the new price and they've simply split out the spa fee of $40 per night into a manditory fee. It was included previously. On top of that, the old booking had a $100 resort credit attached with it. @!#$%^&!

That'll teach me for going off half-cocked...

Ouch! Shit happens. You'll get it back at the tables, I'm sure :)

Have fun at the Cosmopolitan. I noticed the Wizard does not have it reviewed on his site yet. Perhaps you'd care to review it?

If Wynn is so busy that they don't need to compete for your business then congratulations to them.
I'm glad you chose to go elsewhere. I'm doing the same thing with my Super Bowl trip. Make them compete for my bUxXx0rZ.

I enjoy those reviews, but they're pretty thorough so I'm not sure I could do it justice. How does the Wizard normally handle these things?

I can certainly give a personal review.

Well folks guess what? The Wynn just e-mailed me today to extended their current promotion into the time that I wanted. That is they're offering me a $139/night room from March 11th to 15th plus a $50 resort credit for staying more than 3 nights. After taxes and resort fees, it ends up being $170 cheaper overall to stay at the Wynn vs. the Cosmopolitan.

I thought seriously about just keeping the Cosmopolitan booking, but my wife said that money is money and I could use the difference at the tables.

So I cancelled the reservation with the Cosmopolitan and have signed up with the Wynn. I won't be able to give that personal review of the Cosmopolitan. Sorry Folks.

So things worked out in the end. It can be a bit
of a dilimma: I book early when I've found a good
deal, but if the rate is non-refundable, you're
stuck if something better comes along.

We're going to stay at PH Towers the last week
in March with a deal I found on BOOKIT.com.
I would recommend that site, at least to get
a baseline on what rooms are going for in
any given week.

I think Wynn thought I might be a higher roller
than I actually am, and we got a good
promo deal at ENCORE a few years back.
