They should've used the pips from a deck of cards. Not the Pittsburgh Steelers logo.

Or maybe the Stardust took it from playing cards?

The edges of a diamond are not straight, they're slightly concave.

Old cards had them much more concave.

Funny, I thought exactly the same thing, but I thought maybe it was the font and the general 60s feel.

The Pittsburgh Steelers logo was introduced in 1962 and is based on the "Steelmark", originally designed by Pittsburgh's U.S. Steel and now owned by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

Until you pointed out that it's for the CITY, I was thinking that it looks a lot like the current logo of the LVCVA - LV Convention and Visitors Authority, and that THAT was being updated.

gee I knew I have seen it similar somewhere. I believe I have a magnet that even looks similar to that.

If they took away the steeler logo part then I think it would be ok, maybe. However it does seem a little Miata like ish, no?

I don't care for the look. It looks like the Stardust sign with the diamonds, and the cursive style reminds me of the Sands sign. And the boxiness of the L and the V around the 'as' in 'Las' looks off.

I'm surprised they couldn't do better.

Whatever, it's very lame. What's wrong with the good old welcome to Las Vegas style.

The font is a script font and is a throw back to the same fonts used in a lot of the famous signage used in Vegas's prime days. Hinting at "FABULOUS" verbiage in the Welcome to "FABULOUS" Las Vegas, The Flamingo, LaConcha and el Cortez Hotel and Casino. Just to name a few.

Correct, but the "GOOGIE" style is prevalent in Vegas as well at that time. While the Vegas casino look has evolved the STEEL logo hasn't.
