I've lived in Las Vegas for the better part or 20 years, only after relocating from Scottsdale, AZ. The desert has been in my blood for a lifetime. During my undergrad I was seeing a girl that transferred to U of O. I visited her a few times and absolutely fell in love with The Pacific Northwest. Outside of Eugene, I've been to a few other places in Oregon and Washington, but it's always been more than just spots on a map-the people, the water, the greenery and mostly the overall vibe is what attracts me. I always tell folks, "the desert is in my blood but the PNW stole my heart". Without a doubt my twilight years will be spent in the upper left coast.

I love Eugene.
Best Grateful Dead concert I ever saw was in Eugene at Autzen Stadium. (saw the boys over 100 times all over the country)
Rare outside day show under the sunshine. Loved it, no light show, just music

That's fantastic. All I can add is that you should make the move as soon as you possibly can.

I know the feeling. In the last few months I have really started getting stir crazy after 25 years in Las Vegas. I am looking for the first opportunity to move to a coastal area. Hopefully I can find employment soon. I would like to be out of Vegas by springtime if possible.

So clueless they now own dozens of companies
around the world that make planes, cars, boats,
they have fish factories, heavy equipment factories,
they own TV stations and newspapers (like the
Washington Times) and even own United Press
International. Not bad for idiots.

Idiots can be successful.

I was talking about the clowns in their SF temple, as they're the only ones I am familiar with first hand.

My comment stands: clueless, deperate idiots.

Clueless for believing that dreck about Rev. Moon.

Desperate in nearly kidnapping people to join their cult.

Idiots for not wising up and realizing not only is Moon not god, there is no god.

But hey, if Moon floats your boat, who am I to tell you who to worship and adore?

We still need a motel which is safe, good location, and rents on a monthly basis. It just doesn't spring up on google or craigslist. Paying up to $1000.usd a month is no problem if criteria met.

So I decided to go through with the move, have been a NV local for just about six months now. Job is going great, woman situation could always be better. One thing I wasn't prepared for though, was an entire office without any guys in my demographic (29/single). I keep in close touch with friends back home, but it just isn't the same as being able to hang out and watch a game, drink some beers. I'm debating catching the Final Four games at one of the sports books tomorrow. If anyone is interested in grabbing some drinks and watching the games, I am all ears.

There is one thing I have realized about living in Vegas. Big open space is an abundance and not some luxury where you have to pay a premium for. Also finding good parking is not much a big issue which is a huge plus! Plus having a great quality gym wouldn't dent your wallet. Just too bad Equinox doesn't have a branch out here.

If you haven't tried it yet the Village Pubs offer a decent steak special for $9.99 the last time I checked. They are owned by Ellis Island and seem to offer the same steak that Ellis Island is famous for. It used to be 24 hours but i don't know if it still is. I don't think it is on the menu you just have to ask for it. It was a surprising decent cut of meat and not just shoe leather. I used to gamble large there and when I was having people over to the house for swimming and a BBQ they would comp me 10 steaks. I would order them rare and take them home to throw on the BBQ.

Bror Fredrik says as a single person he needs an income of $100k/year just to survive in Vegas now, and much more to have a life there. Rents have gone way up and landlords want 3X the rent in income just to apply. I've seen on the news that some lower income neighborhoods the rent has jumped over the past 5 years from $1,000/month to $2,000/month, so the minimum wage to get an apartment has doubled from $36K/yr to $72K/yr in those situations. Then car insurance is going through the sunroof. Casinos are catering to the rich with high minimums for fair games. The drought is still top of mind for me and there's only been a reprieve for a couple years until maybe 2026-2027 before the Southwest falls into bedlam with Lake Mead running dry. I wouldn't move there. If I had a few hundred grand to gamble, or a few hundred grand to win, I'd be like MDawg and get comped rooms for my action and keep winning streaks going for a few months until I had several millions to take home and then leave the state. If I had to spend one year there, well then I'll have to read this thread, but it won't be cheap anymore.

That is just typical baloney by that person. A single person can live just fine making less than $100k in Vegas. There are still plenty of apartments for the $1200 range. My son and daughter both are still single and live in Vegas and make less than $100k and are doing just fine.

As a full time RVer
Vegas has been one of my cheapest stays ever
I'm actually saving money staying in Vegas
When I travel, typically spending 200 to to 300 a week to stay at an RV park. Sometimes more.
Last winter in FL, staying at a nice RV park for 1400 a month
Vegas I'm spending 650 a month plus electricity
That's the cheapest I've paid in over 3 years of traveling all over the country
Down the street is a RV park advertising 450 a month if I really want to go cheap
Mine has manned 24 hr security gate
This area of Vegas, Sams Town area, a bit sketchy but I feel very safe in the RV park

The best dinner deal meal in Vegas. The Ellis Island 9.99 steak special with green beans, baked potato and salad. Regular price 14.99 but if you gamble just 5 dollars, get 5 off for 9.99. I bet 5 but lost 2.50 so the steak dinner cost me 12.49 😀 I was very impressed with the steak. Thick , quality meat, and perfectly cooked.

Not really
Except for some small casinos
A lot is owned by a few big players and I'm already in those systems.
A lot of new player offers these days aren't much
I remember about 10 or 15 years ago Tropicana offered new players something like a 200 lost rebate in a 24 hour gambling period
You don't see those anymore
I'm at the point where I would rather wait for a better new players promotion then getting just 20 freeplay which is a typical cheap offer.
A lot of casinos offer nothing
Was in Tunica and asked and I think all had nothing for a new player sign up

One of the greatest things about Vegas is eating out
I've never eaten out so much in my life
I'm a lowroller ploppy so I pay for meals which I'm fine with
So many options and now discovering video poker bar/restaurants with good food at a good price with lots of specials. I'm all about the specials lol
With tip, often just 20 bucks
Any recommendations

There's the $17 fish fry with tar tar sauce & French fries with ketchup special at my local video poker bar on Friday nights with an extra $3 for refillable Starry soda. I could also get a double mushroom burger with fries, but those fries were altogether different and might have been the last of the night; maybe the fry cook has been replaced since.
The buffet is gone due to COVID.
The regular restaurant has a double mushroom burger with fries and soda for $20 that I can use a $20 meal credit on. They also sell a strip steak and green beans & fries for $5 more.
The Smashburger, which actually specializes in double mushroom burgers isn't eligible for the $20 meal credit on the Player's card, but can use points.
This is all instead of leaving the casino and driving down the street to Wendy's for a Baconator meal for what may be $20 or less.
Most fast food is bring $20 - $30 for a single person now. Getting by on a $10 bill would be a take-out and bring the sandwich without the fries & soda home thing.
Subway is clearly over $10 for a footlong without the soda. Maybe I can get a $5 credit if I reload my gift card with $25 with the e-mail offer.
I'm trying to get by on a $10/day food budget, and with inflation the last several months, I'm losing. I'll have to up my budget to $15/day soon. There's very little eating out on that budget except for casino comps or 3-5 meals per month to get a bite. COVID has been escalating since last summer and there's little public notice about what's going on since social media has fallen apart under Elon Musk and the CDC has abandoned what they used to do. So eating out could get me a case of COVID burger because fast food places have no tolerance for worker absences despite COVID.

Just buy in for say $200 and play 30 min. craps. You will get a comped dinner. Yes, that was my experience 2 years ago.

It's totally independent action :-)

One of the greatest things about Vegas is eating out
I've never eaten out so much in my life
I'm a lowroller ploppy so I pay for meals which I'm fine with
So many options and now discovering video poker bar/restaurants with good food at a good price with lots of specials. I'm all about the specials lol
With tip, often just 20 bucks
Any recommendations

Village Pubs owned by Ellis Island. Great steak special and very good fish and chips. There are a bunch of them around town the biggest being the one on Sunset across from Barley's. Pretty good meals for around $10. Used to have 100% video poker but no longer do.

Since this thread has reopened...
My bosses are "reminding me" to start my retirement paperwork, as I plan to retire after 40 years in the federal civil service, and Vegas is still on my "short list" of places to move to. From what I have been told in the past, west of the Strip is much preferable to east. Right now, my eyes are on the area bordered by Charleston, Rainbow, Flamingo, and Hualapai (west of there looks like it's just out of my price range). As I live alone, I would prefer a condo to a full-size home, and while I prefer not spending over $500,000 (my current townhouse is worth about $400,000, I think), I have a $48,000 annual pension (before things like taxes and health insurance - and yes, I am well aware that a condo will include a monthly HOA payment; my current one is $550) and enough in savings that I should be able to cover slightly more without a problem - and I haven't even thrown in Social Security yet, although I don't plan on starting that until about 2030.

Any recommendations? Well, any besides, "Rent first, and buy later"?

Any decent "senior communities" in the area? Should I even be considering one of these?

I doubt you’d have trouble finding that north of the airport near UNLV, or north/east of downtown.

Have you been to Laughlin or Reno? Not sure what the value is for RVers there.

RVers can stay right in the lot at the Riverside casino free for 14 days. I think they just have to earn 25 points in the casino which is nothing.

Camped a week in Laughlin
It was alright
Camped a week in Reno
I was very impressed with Reno
The casino area is still gritty
But the city has really done a wonderful job developing the river area
I like Reno a lot
Here is a pic I took of live art at the river

On average the weather in Reno will be cooler when the real summer hits, but it does rain more there than Vegas.

The only restaurant in Las Vegas that I know that sells "Shit on a Shingle" (Chipped beef on toast). I believe their casino also lets you double on 3 cards.
