I ran into a new sidebet in a blackjack game and was wondering what the house edge was. In addition to the house edge what would be the optimum count have to be to lessen the edge and gain an advantage if there is one. You put out a sidebet of 1-50 dollars per hand betting that the dealer's up card is between your two. If he matches yours it pays 30-1, if the one between 12-1, two between 6-1, three between 4-1 and finally any between 1-1. Any insight or help would be appreciated. Thanks

How many decks? May I ask where you saw it? I tend to think it isn't countable, but I can at least give the house edge if I know the number of decks.
It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.

Sounds like an adaptation of Red Dog (Acey Ducey).

But there are additional possibilities that need to be considered.

What if your two cards are consecutive? What if they are paired?

Is that dealer match payoff if they are paired, or not, or doesn't matter? It SHOULD matter, if you're paired and he matches, it should pay more than a match of either non-paired card.
Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood?

Hi, in response to your query it's 8decks with the ace high. I would prefer not to mention the casino if you don't mind. I would gladly send you the location if you pm me if that's possible. Thanks.

I agree with miplet's results. I just added my own analysis to my blackjack appendix 8.

Why dont you want to mention it? I know side bets are sucker bets but it seems like a fun bet to make, is there even private messaging on this site?
This move to Las Vegas is a huge gamble, I am investing all my money in hopes of being able to live and support myself for the first time ever. I guess if I am making a huge gamble like that, Las Vegas is the best place to do it!
